The interviewer was beyond messy but she was asking the questions that everyone else was afraid to ask yet wanted to know. It speaks volumes that people were asking about favoritism seeing how Beyoncé is still the only one who has enjoyed mainstream success, and her father was the group manager and her mother the group's outfit coordinator.

@jessysotnas I think it comes down to two reasons. Dilemma was a collaboration with Nelly who was very popular at the time, and people most likely associated her as a featured artist. And Michelle's album while reaching #1 on Gospel charts, didn't have a strong mainstream impact.

And her father became manager BECAUSE his daughter was the focal point of the group (he threatened to remove her otherwise, _and everyone's parents agreed to make him manager to prevent that),_ at one point quitting his job and selling the family home in that endeavor. Her mother became the stylist because the label didn't care enough to style them well. No one else's parents in that group were that invested. Mathew was shrewd and an opportunist, but the opportunity was his daughter being so prodigiously, ridiculously talented that adults knew it and were taking notice. (Prince had heard them before Mathew barged in.) She was the favorite before he got involved. He just capitalized on that.

welp the interviewer was spot on when she asked kelly and Michelle the question about beyonce rising and being favorite, kelly was for sure depressed and same as michelle, they just had to lie because PR and management told them too. watching the interviews back after kellys comment being beyonces shadow or background women and michelle being depressed, basically says they lied almost majority of the time just to keep up the brand. mind you two members left then one was fired(priv)/quit(public)
