Thank you for this video Russ:) So interesting seeing how the scanner works.

Great video some of the best 3D modeling I've seen on a budget, it would be cool to see the motor 3D printed thanks for doing the video that was cool to see you and the kids go to the car event I follow the family man channel also it was like when KZbinrs collide 😂

You mentioned the blue light is not nice on the eyes. Do you think you can use this for scanning a face? Or is the light bad for the eyes?

What we really care about is the scanner accuracy, and resolution, i do think that you should scan some objects with precise mesurements that you can verify and how far it can go to very small deteils, the Revopoint say this scanner can go up to 0.02 mm or 0.05 distant points, can you do that kind of test to see what is this scanner capable of ?? thank you very much, very good job.
@RWGresearch2 жыл бұрын
agreed, i just pulled the motor in to cad, i measured 0.197" with the calipers on the motor shaft, the car measures 0.1964 - 0.1966" the outside of the motor with the calipers is 1.456" in cad i measure 1.464" - 1.462" I'd say that quite good IMO. top to bottom is hard to measure but its darn close. so yeah. i'd say that in the right case its totally capable. in perfect conditions i dont see why this would not be able to hit those numbers listed on the spec sheet. ~Russ

How do the upper size range of scanned objects compare between the POP2 and Mini scanners? I would suppose that file size of your point clouds would be important. i.e. How does the usable scanned object scale compare between the two scanners. Obviously there is a traded off in accuracy...
@mereskimade2 жыл бұрын
Great video, thank you. Since you have experience with the mini and Pop 2 can the Pop 2 scan something bigger where as a Mini wouldn’t be able to? I’m comfortable combining meshes but if the possible scan area is much smaller on the mini then the Pop 2 might be a better option.
@RWGresearch2 жыл бұрын
You can scan more at one time with the POP2 however. The smaller objects work better on the mini. you can still scan a large object with the mini, but it will take more time. they both work good. the main difference is the light source. you cant use the mini out side, and is not recommended for face scans as the blue light is very intense. where the pop 2 is good for all theses applications. ~Russ

How small of a part can you scan? I'm looking to get one of these for scanning out of print model sprues.
@tonytone00832 жыл бұрын
As for beginner, how many times do you scan the object around to the full scale? 2x? Top 3D, bottom 3D? Is it easy to put them together to get one object?
@RWGresearch2 жыл бұрын
2x is enough, but some times more is better, just depending on how the scan is going. ~Russ

How dimensionally accurate are scans and are units in mm? If you import model in fusion 360 is it scaled accurately?
@sausage58492 жыл бұрын
That would be very handy. How big can an object be?
@RWGresearch2 жыл бұрын
Kinda endless. When doing a large scan you just do it by moving the scanner around. You just need to mark the object or make sure it picks up the features as you scan. You can see me do this in the first part of the plane repair video we posted a while back. I'll link if you don't know what I'm talking about. Cheers. ~Russ

What size of object would you say is the maximum size realistically scannable??
@RWGresearch2 жыл бұрын
there really is not a maximum. but if the scanner is stationary you can only scan so faraway and so close. ( 100-200mm) but if you scan by moving the scanner around you can go as big as you want... you can also move the object around on the table. but i found moving the scanner on a larger object is easier . ~Russ

@@RWGresearch Have a prusa printer so bed is 200x200mm. Is that classed as big/average or small? No idea as never scanned before. Only printed after downloading stl files from net

Hi, will this be able to scan 5mm diameter gemstones and colorless stones like diamonds accurately?
@RWGresearch2 жыл бұрын
i do not think so 10x10x10 is the minimum single object scan. also the clear gemstone needs to be sprayed to work correctly. its to transparent. ~Russ
@xile62 жыл бұрын
too close when spraying and dont over spray it. when wet it will be clear. also the orange is better since the blue goes away to fast. at least for me
