The Sinatra album sounds gorgeous, and I love the story behind it and the fact that the master tapes were stored hundreds of feet underground somewhere in Pennsylvania!

Cassette tapes are also recommended when starting an audiophile collection. To get the best out of the good well kept, undamaged cassettes, you need clean and demagnetized and lubricated tape path and Dol y NR OFF! Good cassettes sound like you are in a studio or concert hall. Big ,gutsy, full sound.

Who loves music, loves music in all formats! But I think your comment is perfect in a section directed to the "cassette". It is heading to the world of "vinyl" without making comparisons. In my case I have a collection in all formats! Tape, Vinyl, Cassetta & CD. Love music. ❤👍

Once again, an awesome selection Michael. My Herbie Hancock pick would be Takin Off. I personally find it a little more accessible than Inventions and Dimensions, but we are talking marginally. I still have to pick up the Impex Sinatra pressing. My favorite Impex release so far is Legrand Jazz. On the tone poet side, Byrd in Flight is such a great recording.

I see it the same way about Herbie Hancock. What is also more accessible is „Gershwin‘s world“ by Hancock

A great selection, every one. I was going to suggest something from Bill Evans, but then realized there aren't any affordable audiophile versions of Waltz for Debby, or Sunday at the Village Vanguard, or much else really. Thanks for the video!

There is a huge Problem when it comes to audiophile Evans releases
@terrywho223 жыл бұрын
The Analog Productions "Bill Evans At The Montreux" on 45 is worth every penny, and I'm guessing that the more affordable 33-1/3 version is also very well done (and it's available). Not an audiophile-specific release, but the OJC Waltz for Debby is very good. I was happy enough with it that I posted a needle drop but unfortunately it was blocked by KZbin. At any rate it's definitely worth getting.

If anyone wants a good sounding A Love Supreme, for not much money, try to find Wally Traugott's repressing from 1995. It has the word WALLY handwritten in the runout. It is the most extreme example I have found (as a beginner) of an LP being unquestionably superior to even the latest CD versions - which is odd for such a prestigious album. Why would MCA not be bothered to press a better CD?
@saltech3444 Жыл бұрын
Oh by the way, two further points about the WALLY pressing of A Love Supreme. I encountered a thread on a forum - maybe the Hoffman forum? - in which it was debated whether this version of ALS is all-analogue or not. It is! And we know it is all analogue because halfway through the debate someone actually emailed Michael Cuscuna himself and received a definitive response. Ain't the internet something? The second point: The WALLY pressing was mentioned by Michael Fremer in one of his articles, describing it as superior to the CD. So there is that. So if you want a really good ALL ANALOGUE pressing of A Love Supreme for not much money, get the 1995 repress!

I just sold a huge collection 4,000 plus to a dealer in the United States. They were taking up way too much space. I kept about 300 gems. Anything I want to listen to is on Spotify, KZbin and other sites. I don't think this vinyl craze will last. It will go out just like hockey cards and Beanie Babies. I just think that the prices of vinyl are way too high. Records are not artifacts from the Ming Dynasty. Paying what equates roughly to a weekly grocery order doesn't make any sense.
