I run a 16 foot AllWeld up here in interior Alaska. I like it because it is easy to get unstuck alone when running up a mud or gravel bar. 60 HP Four stroke with prop and jet unit, so can run deep and shallow rivers. With this setup and the prop, can easily haul 600 lbs of moose, 2 people and camp. We also have a pry bar and rope come-along for getting unstuck on interior AK rivers. We use ours for transportation so always running with ear plugs, so loud is not a problem from our perspective.

Speaking of your camera, one of the things I really appreciate about your videos is when you just pan on the beach with no background music. You can really 'Hear the Quietness'! It's obscurely rare in our society to be in a place where you can actually hear only the waterfowl 1/2 mile away and perhaps waves lapping on the shore from 500'. How many of us can even go a whole lifetime without ever experiencing this? Sure, it's not for everyone, but you 2 have definitely found your own Oasis there. Thanx for sharing with the rest of us!

I forgot to add, good call on aluminum. When we started camping, we bought a small fibreglass cuddy cabing. Eventually we ended up settling at a camp with a beautiful, big (17 miles) but rocky lake. We ended up selling the fibreglass boat when we started camping there and went to a pontoon. Nice having a 21x8 deck that can float in just inches of water. With the decking on your boat, you could always rip up the carpet and coat the wood in floor epoxy with grit added to make it non slip! Cheers!

He Joseph, I bought it in Juneau a few years ago from a Coast Guard guy who was PCSing. There was another one for sale at the time but this was the better of the two. I see Hewescraft for sale a lot in town. For what we are doing the only downside to our boat is not having a hard top. We have to put wood on our rack every winter to keep the snow off of it.

It sounds like you will eventually need a way to pull your boat out of the water there on the island. The easiest would probably be a 2nd trailer. You could back it into the water with your atv, then winch it out with the boat, once you have an electric winch. This would surely be easier than hauling a track system out there. But could you imagine trying to haul a trailer out on the back of your boat, LOL. You might need some help with that one ;) Don't worry about how fast you are going, just make steps in the right direction. Oh and put some big balloon bush tires on the trailer.

@AnAlaskaHomestead
@AnAlaskaHomestead 4 жыл бұрын
A 27’ Kingfisher is an excellent boat. The downside of a large boat is it’s very difficult to beach a boat like that without getting it stuck. You would need to drop anchor and take a dingy to shore. That makes loading and unloading anything very difficult. If I won the lottery I’d love to have one or a 27’ Wooldridgre.
