Great video! We actually pay more at our local Fred Myer's which I would not have expected. Jealous of the peanut butter cost, the natural peanut butter or almond butter here is so much we do not buy it anymore. As far as Costco we don't shop there for a comparison but it seemed reasonable :)

We spent 200 bucks more than normal on this new diet so we will see how things settle down in a few weeks. Either way it is more expensive than a lot of places.

Whitney Gibson In Virginia it is easy to grow your own about 8 months out of the year with a simple greenhouse (the same setup in his part of Alaska he would have to wrap and heat the greenhouse a few months to maintain that many months....of course by wrapping and heating (even just with black water barrels), you could raise crops year round.

28 years keto and carnivore and we can shop for way less than 500 a month for sure.. we raised 4 kids and it was all low carb.. we did have a garden and we shopped local farms but now that they are grown we can still stay way under that.. costco nation wide has good buys but.. they are still higher on certain things. I knw in Alaska your limited to a couple stores.. but Im always up for the challenge of saving cash.. hunting fishing and local farms and regenerative farming.. Cant wait to see more of your new Plans in Alaska! Loved the vlog! Hopefully we will be living in Alaska once all this PANDEMIC stuff is better understood.. Cant wait.

Dude, prices are crazy expensive there! We spend about half that here for 5 people. Diana likes her coffee like it's a family member lol. I smile at mine the same way. I'm pretty sure we would have been a third world country if we didn't have coffee!

My Alaska Dream Not published (in anyway that counts), but I’m working on a book of poetry, a spy novel, and putting together notes for a book I want to write about literary theory, linguistics, philosophy, psychology, and sociology as they discuss the human essence moving through time (referencing the works of certain Greek philosophers, Freud, Saussure, Lacan, nietzsche, Jung, Marx, and even Matt Groening (creator of The Simpson’s)... Shopping in Juneau or other little towns in Alaska is very expensive, shopping in the villages is even worse. Buy what you need in Anchorage if at all possible before you leave for the interior.

These prices aren’t to bad. When we first moved to Juneau in 78 eggs where $3 a dozen and all you could get was cold storage eggs. Milk was $8 a gallon. Everything had to be brought in on planes. There had been a dairy farm there in the late 60s early 70s but bears got all the cows.

The stuff we buy here in Ontario is worse than Alaska prices. Our gas prices are around $5.50 a gallon. Bacon is around 5 or 6 bucks as well. On sale it might go for $3.50. The meat prices are stupid as well. Chicken like you showed would cost us about the same . Count your blessings . We live in a Country that taxes the hell out of you and we havn`t even bent over to pick up the soap yet. I can`t wait till they open the border to the US soon. I will be shopping over there soon.

Graduation 1985 Juneau Douglas high school. Haven't been back to Juneau since 2003 looks like old familiar sites. Costs a lot to live in Juneau even on the boat I used commercial fish with. Trade you for the summer weather conditions supposed to be 104 degrees tomorrow and 109 day later. Be sure to go by salmon creek apartments and take my stupid older brother George down and leave him on Grand island

How much do you supplement your groceries with fish/game/gardening? Being from TN, I can go to the grocery and spend $75 a week and eat like a king. This time of year I hit up a local market farm and can buy ridiculous volumes of fresh vegetables for next to nothing.

The prices are simular where I live, some of what you purchased is far more than what we pay, I try to shop for a month and try to keep my costs down around $200.00, plus I eat out with friends. I live alone with 2 dogs. You can never have too much bacon...

Canned beans are healthy and cheaper, and on the bright side it is important to stock up on canned goods in the winter if you get snowed in. At least you will not starve.

How much sun do you guys actually get there, seems like it rains about 3/4 of the year? Does that ever get depressing? Also, pro tip. At costco get the new york top loin or ribeye roast in the cryo packs and cut your own steaks from that instead of getting them precut as you can almost get twice as much.

I lived in Juneau for a couple of years back in 83-85, so, I left there about 8 years before this Costco was even built (according to my trusty Google home mini) but I don't remember the prices being that bad! Of course, 1985 "was" 36 years ago! Man... where did all that time go!? Your Fred Meyer was built in 1983 (the year I arrived in Juneau; I was 27) and your Costco was built ten years later, in 1993. Your Costco is the smallest Costco of the chains 785 stores. It was built as a test to see how they would do in a smaller market. Some things never change. Alaskans still wear Helly Hansen rain gear. So, question.. Why do you take the boat out of the water while in Juneau? Also, I’m wondering about your truck while it’s left in the parking lot at the boat ramp. Any damage to the truck? WOW so Keto diet is very expensive. All the bacon a beef is the killer. Fred Meyers is called Fry's here where I live the prices seemed pretty close. I don't know about your refridgerator status is for keeping fresh veggies or frozen is but cannned veggies have sugar. Some of the fresh veggies you showed were very expensive. Yeah, our produce is a little more and older because it has to be shipped here on a barge. This was about $200 more than what we typically spend. $$$ The to feels so much better.

You may have answered this already but can you tell me how far away from Costco etc you are, what you do for income (since let’s be honest $500 for one week is expensive!). Hi Amy, hope you and your husband are doing well. I’m glad you found our channel, welcome. Turns out that was our first time buying a bunch of new stuff for the diet. It lasted two weeks and our normal bill is about $250-$300 ever two weeks. I retired a couple years ago. I retired from the Army and then worked in a gold mine for a few years. After we paid everything off and saved up a nest egg I retired and we live off my military money. On a good day it takes us 35-40 minutes to get to the boat launch and then another 20-30 to get to Costco. Hope that answered your question. Good luck with the low carb diet. We are still on it. I’ve dropped 20 in about 30 months.

We plan on building the coop on the colder months and getting chickens and some ducks next year. I head ducks eat slugs. We were going to get chickens this year but ran out of time. A bear killed our neighbors chickens and we wanted to have the e fence up prior to getting them.

There is a Costco about a mile away from Fred Meyers and the prices on things that do not have a lot of water weight are about the same price as the lower 48. Also prices are better than Freddy's at the Safeway a few miles out past the airport. Just avoid the IGA in town or you will have serious sticker shock. Juneau and Anchorage are not much higher than the lower 48, but go to an island community like Petersburg and you get to pay $8/gallon for milk.

The prices at the Juneau Costco are no higher than ours in Gig Harbor Washington. Plus the Sales Tax is 4% less in Juneau.

Your Fred Meyer and Costco prices seem to be similar to what we pay in Oregon at those locations. We do have more options though and get most groceries at WinCo which is less than Fred Meyer. Four packages of bacon to last a week huh?

Great video....great music. To be honest the prices really aren't as bad as I imagined. But for a week....holy moley. The prices are really comparable to Florida for the amount you are getting in bulk, but it seems like you have to eat a LOT of food on that diet. BTW....Juneau is BEAUTIFUL. I thought it was much smaller just from videos on TV you see the iconic small town up against that mountain backdrop. Oh the decisions I have to make lol.

Glad you liked the song. I’ve been trying to find feel good folky type of music.👍 Living mostly in the Midwest I find this prices to be high but to other areas it’s not bad. Especially when you add in the cost to put all this on a barge. Juneau is divided up two sections but really there are four. You have the small cute downtown and the valley. I also like to include Douglas island which is right across the channel from downtown Juneau and then there is what is called “out the road”. Out the road is headed away from downtown and past the valley. It’s very secluded and further you go you lose cell phone reception. We looked at a couple of cabins in that area but are glad we decided to buy our place on the island.

My Alaska Dream On Douglas can you get by without a car? I was looking at land there before they had initially sold all the parcels, and it looked like it would be borderline possible for living a suburban/ruralish lifestyle without a car....taking the ferry over to Juneau when necessary and getting around there by taxi/bicycle/or LPCs, as appropriate to the weather...

Rick Sanchez C137 there’s no ferry, Juneau and Douglas are connected with a bridge. You could take a taxi. I think we even have an Uber or lift guy driving around now.

It should get better once you build up your supplies. Like peanut butter coconut oil cheese things like that. We will stock up on things when there on sale so next trip one less thing to buy. Great job it will be worth it.

Yeah, we typically spend around $200 for two weeks of food. So this was $$$ and it my stretch two weeks. Once we get the garden thing going it should cut down on some of that I hope. Junea is quite beautiful with the scenery! I've had ideas of living there if I ever moved to Alaska, though you just can't drive directly there. The cool and wet winters may drive me crazy too! Used to be a Walmart in Junea a few years ago but too bad it couldn't work out. Would have to get on a ferry to go to Kenai for to shop at a Walmart! Very nice they have a Costco to hopefully save buying in bulk! Would like to visit Alaska someday to escape from the lower 48 for a bit!!

I enjoy the winters. It doesn’t get bitter cold like the interior does. We have Fred Mayers which is just like Walmart. No need for a long trip to Kenai. If you get a chance you should come for a visit. Alaska’s a great place.

Yay! It wasn’t as high as I expected-I guess Colorado has been getting more expensive because that was only about 20% more. And considering gas is twice the price there I’m happy with 20% more.

Look into indoor gardening with 35 watt cobb DAYLIGHT LED lights. They put out 300 watts of light and work real good for plants in the vegetative state. Start the plants in the Winter and put them outside in the summer to finish up. Works great with weed, tea, and strawberry plants so it should do good on most plants.

I went to BJs (like Costco)today 3/22 and purchased the Jimmy Dean sausage roll here in New Jersey .. it cost $5.99 Alaska price is $2.50 more . I've been watching all Alaska youtube videos as much as I can find .. will be traveling to Alaska via by travel trailer . Thanks for your videos .

I used to live on Prince of Wales Island (Klawock). The prices on the island are much higher than Juneau. I miss southeast AK. There's no other place on earth as beautiful and magical. Love your vids!
