A hidden gem and one that not a lot of people know about because it’s so hard to define would be Weird West a gothic horror with clunky combat, but reminiscent of Lovecraft’s classic stories. You have a nightmare that you are in a room with five portraits and are branded only to awake at home with the fresh brand on your neck, your husband is missing, so you strap on your old irons and head out into the weird west to find him, but as you travel random encounters are rife and filled with monsters and that bandit you killed may have a friend with a vendetta or have been in a cult.

A few Lovecraftian games that I would add to this list for people who are interested for more: - Anchorhead - Conarium - Dagon - Darkness Within - In Pursuit of Loath Nolder - Darkness Within 2 - The Dark Lineage - Dreams in the Witch House - Eternal Darkness - Sanity's Requiem - The Last Door 1 and 2 - The Room series - The Suffering 1 and 2

Anybody remember this Lovecraftian game that I've been looking for years: It was an First Person Perspective puzzle game (that may or may not give you a revolver after) It took place in 1800's or very early 20th century. The game started with a small house with a ghost or skeleton sitting in front of a tv on a couch You were locked in a house and the game kept crashing the moment i unlocked the door and stepped outside. The house looked like its from the game Scratches or Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder. The game was a 3d game, It must be released sometime between 1998 to 2007. I know its lovecraftian because I remember uninstalling and installing to fix the crash bug, and in installing screen I saw some concept art of monsters that I couldn't comprehend what they were at that time. I didn't even knew english, so I cant remember its name. But for some reason i remember an old grandpa's clock, a pocket watch and a piece of paper on a desk.

@@uros.u.novakovic from that description it doesn't seem likely. DCotE doesn't feature a skeleton in a room at the beginning, or anything else in that description. But now I'm also curious to know what game that is.

I'm a longtime Lovecraft fan, I paid full price for Sinking City when it first released and loved it. Bought the Series X version in the sale and played through it again and enjoyed it then also. Probably the only game I've ever completed twice. Excellent soundtrack and great atmosphere which goes a long way for me (particularly in a Lovecraft game). Each to their own but I find it generally underrated.
@maxalbert4465 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree :) for me The sinking city is also one of my Top 3 Lovecraftian games. Sure you notice that it did not have as big a budget than some other games but it does a great job in creating this indistinguishable Lovecraft/Cthulhu atmosphere of madness. As this is one of the most important aspects as well as some investigative work I think it is a great title and was made by some real Lovecraft lovers.

For me is the best lovecraftian game Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. I finished it three times and it is amazing. It hasn't Lovecraft lore, but it is heavily inspired by it. You play as twelve characters in span of two thousand years and you fight against darkness and it is awesome. Also it has fantastic insanity effects and gameplay, atmosphere, soundtrack and writing is also top.

I don't know what this guy is saying about sinking city. That game has atmosphere out the ass and the detective work feels really good and the story itself is pretty darn good too. Yeah the combat's a little clunky but it's a survival horror game what game doesn't have clunky combat
@runaway73802 ай бұрын
I agree! I've just finished it and loved the whole experience. My only gripe would be the endings. I wanted longer cinematics with epic proportions but it didn't ruin the game. I went in to it expecting a lovecraftian detective game and, by Kay, thats what I got.

If You love Lovecraftian themes, Xenogears/Xenosaga are excellent JRPGs with lighthearted Eldritch Horror themes. There is even a ship named Eldridge. Ender Lilies is a good one too. It is a metroidvania that is a bit like Dark Souls but less punishing.

Add Stygian Reign of the old ones to the list. It was abandoned by the devs while in development, so the story ends on a cliffhanger and some quests are bugged and can't actually be completed, BUT it's still the most atmospheric lovecraftian game I've ever played (beats all of the games in this list + others not listed). The game WILL leave you wanting more, so play at your own risk.

@@ColdBeer Dark Corners of the Earth is not top material? Well... everything is subjective, but come on mate, its basically Shadow over Innsmouth in videogame format. Also the sanity system is insane (pun intended :P)
@ColdBeer Жыл бұрын
Well, basically my selection works like this - If the game goes strong with the theme, I vaguely follow these steps ---> Step 1: Do I like the game? If yes = goes on the list. Step 2: Would I like to play the game if I didn't before? If yes = goes on the list. Step 3: If I wouldn't like to play it, does it have at least Mostly Positive reviews on Steam? If yes = I will consider adding it if I have place left for it :) So I wouldn't want to play Dark Corners, because it looks too old/outdated (I rather read a book or play some more recent game) and the review score is only Mixed with 67% positive.
