Is there some kind of trick to front flipping? I can reverse flick a knife open, and every other type of opening that requires a modicum of finger strength, but for some reason I can't use a front flipper reliably. It feels like the angle has to be just right or something. Or maybe I'm simply more inept than I realize. Thanks for the great content to fuel my budding knife obsession!

Apply pressure of the tip to your thumb and or the middle side of your thumb and apply pressure,y some pressure . If it starts to roll over slowly you’re on the right track . Don’t tear your skin ! It takes time to build up some tougher skin . You ll get it . Some are snappy and some are rolly but they all flick for me . The Kubey Royale “w chz “ is snappy . What knife are you ff ?

@avolover1 all front flippers work basically the same, there are nuanced differences... the big thing is hand on handle placement and commitment to the flip. I was terrified learning that technique, tbh. But you can't be scared of it, just dig in (often your fingers on the clip for leverage helps) and hit it. Some are still harder than others. I can front flip my shaman all day but can't flip my divo lush that's a designed front/top flipper. Hope this helps a little! You'll get it!

It honestly makes a world of difference having a knife with a good front flipper. The Kizer militaw is a great front flipper. The most important part if ur right handed is getting leverage off of the pocket clip due to correct hand placement and then u want to roll the front edge of ur thumb over the front flipper. Practice doing it slowly and getting the blade to to pop out of the detent while u maintain pressure on the edge of the front flipper. once u have that down u just snap ur thumb over the back to complete the action. It’s honestly just practice but again having a well designed front flipper really helps.

Try a front flipper with a button lock like the CJRB Ekko or Kizer Hic-cup because the detents are generally light so it’s easy to build muscle memory on them on all sorts of openings.

Great list! Love that the Bulldog and Sylph made the list. Was very surprised (but not disappointed) to see the Perix ti make your #1. I remember seeing this one a while back and it was on my short list, but what held me back was general availability and blade length. We are limited to 3.5" for carry (concealed) and when I looked it was out of stock. Real Steel is on fire this year. I hope we also see some great innovation and designs from both Ruike and SRM, which are right up in that same territory for sharp designs and value. Today's carry was the Manix 2. Great video! I thought that maybe they missed the $50 list because their retail prices are generally over $50 so when I saw the title of this one, I eagerly awaited an offering from them... but... nothing. Nice list. But I don’t have many that you showed. There are too many nice budget options out there. So I’ve limited the companies I’ll buy from. Otherwise, I’ll be poorer than I already am. I stick to Civivi, Miguron, Kansept/Tenable, and Kizer. One that I believe that should have gotten at least an honorable mention would have been the Miguron Malory. For the money, I don’t think you can go wrong with a budget Miguron. I’m glad you included the Momo. It literally is a work of art. And for anyone that read this far and is considering a Bömbur, I’d stay away from the frag handled options. That’s what I bought since it at the time, it was the only option left. And you know, FOMO. It’s definitely a pocket shredder and hard to get in and out of the pocket. Get the carbon fibre scales instead.

miguron had my #2 of the year under 50, most of them come in under 50 or right at 55, they didnt have a whole lot of new models this year, i tried not to do any revisited knives. Trivisa couldve been on for sure

Why would you get that revel in budget steel when you could go to blade hq and get the prado in s90v and steel milled handle for $100

It's $120 when you check out. I got the Revel for $76 delivered. That's almost $50 less. Plus, with the steel blade, the Prado weighs a ton, the Revel's under 4oz. I have plenty of high-end steel knives, but sometimes you just want something well made, light weight, inexpensive, and looks great.

same thing in reverse. some people arent looking for blade performance, they want a good looking and feeling knife. i think its an amazing thing they are doing. it will drive other companies to do the same thing. now we have options for premium steel under 100 and premium handles under 100
