Rum does not substitute for water. Alcohol dehydrates you. It's a diaretic.

Another reason why Rum was so popular was because it was used to make grog. Which is basically purifying water with a bit of rum.

A thousand years ago 1000 AD few ships were ever a week at sea, they are fresh or near fresh bread , it’s the long voyages of five hundred years ago that hard tack came in to use. It’s not really tasteless, it has a pleasant nutty flavor. Tasteless hard tack comes from using pure flour from today , back then it was corse stone ground with lots of bran in it
@Hratluf3 ай бұрын
Hmm have you heard about the vikings? They have been raiding northern europe from around 800-1050 AD. Furthermore they sailed from Scandinavia to England, Faroe islands, Iceland, Greenland and North America. Thats the old school pirate ;)
@jeffreyrobinson35553 ай бұрын
@@Hratluf yes they did, look on a map. And plot a course from Norway to the UK. A Viking ship could log a hundred miles per day easily From Norway to Sicily there is no time a corse is more then a days run from land From Denmark to Scotland, north along the Faroe islands all less then a day apart, even the jump to Iceland and Greenland and Canada never called for a week out of sight of land

Wtf, a thousand years ago would be the year 1024. That was the bronze age. Hardtack was first made in the 1600's in England. Now as to what you are considering pirates, they were not around in 1024, though there were sea faring raiders, but the word pirate did not come around until 1300 and dirived from the latin word pirata meaning corsair or sea robber. The other foods you highlighted were mainly not in use on the seas in 1024 and many not invented until much later like hardtack. So that being said, at 4:30 i turned off the video.
