Because the stock temp gauge on MOST cars does not tell you about high temp until you're already overheated and damage already been done. Aftermarket gauges give more accurate real time reading.

My car only measures engine coolant. I want an oil temp gauge but I'd have to drill a hole in my oil tank to put a device there. The one he showed is a decent place too tho because it's easy to get to

@@mikehunt-zx8tr for oil temperature reading, get yourself (if you don't have a integrated filter) a adaptor-plate for the filter, there you can put temperature and a pressure sensor. Otherwise, there's the option of putting that sensor in the drain plug. it might not be 100% correct then, but good enough... that what is showed is just for coolant-temperature, and the catch-tank is only for the "oil damp", what can't really be used for oil temperature...
