We didn't call them Hello Dollies; we called them seven-layer cookies. My father was crazy about them. I was trying to learn to be a good baker, so I wasn't fond of making them, but Dad couldn't get enough of them.

Vienna fingers were much better when they were made by Sunshine as well as their Hydrox cookies. Hydrox were the original chocolate cream filled sandwich and were hands down more delicious than Oreos.

8:10 I've heard all 3 names for them & Martha Stewart calls them Noel Nutballs, so that's 4. I call them Swedish Snowballs & learned to make them in my high school cooking class. I loved that class!

My mother bought Snackwells in the mid90s but unlike most of the foods associated with the diet craze they were actually GOOD. A little dry, but the devil's food marshmallow ones were a big favorite.

Um... this is supposedly cookies from the 1970s, but you frequently refer to cookies popular in the 1980s and 1990s. We Gen Xers get no respect! 🙄😒🤨 😉
My grandmother made 7-layer cookies. I've never heard them called Hello Dollies. She also used butterscotch chips.
@coopert.9290Ай бұрын
Before they were Snackwell's they were just Nabisco Devil's Food cakes. They came in a red and yellow package. They weren't advertised as low-fat. I always begged my mom for these at the store. This is a cookie I really miss.

Not just since the 1970s but even before that! For decades now I've missed the brown edge round wafer cookies and those flat raisin filled biscuits by Nabisco, but you can try to find out of production items at the Vermont General Store online that has carried those old-fashioned raisin filled biscuits! I actually prefer the cookies/biscuits imported from the UK or Europe like Belgium and also prefer their chocolate, less sugar better ingredients even if they cost a bit more, they're worth it! But, I bake a lot of my own cookies from scratch and make them with way healthier ingredients and that also saves money! My youngest granddaughter also loves to bake and she shares her homemade goodies with me and I with her. We bake together sometimes which is a lovely experience because I did that with my late grandmothers, both of them born in the late 1800s and were great cooks and bakers! My paternal grandmother used to win Blue Ribbons at the county fairs for her great pies and donuts! Once you've had her wonderful donuts you wouldn't want to go to Dunkin Donuts that don't compare!! ♥♥♥🥧🥧🥧🍪🍪🍪 My maternal grandmother used to always have a cookie jar filled with her old fashioned homemade cookies like the original Toll House Chocolate Chip cookies which were first invented in Massachusetts, the recipe is on the yellow bag of chocolate chips!

Lol spritz cookies are still around they are just even more customizable and can be made with not only butter but cream cheese and that makes them even more melt in your mouth delicious thumb print cookies are also still around especially around my home during the holidays only thing different is that while the original recipe called for peanut butter our family leave it out because I don't like the taste or texture of peanut butter but we don't use jam we usually place a hersey's kiss in the center

I grew up with a mother who made cookies. She made variations of the ones you’ve mentioned, but she neverbought store cookies. To this day when I want homemade cookies, I often will bake them at Christmas. I have tasted the spritz cookie, but I’ve never made it. To much work . However most of them that are mentioned here I know how to make. A lot of your brands mentioned are found on our local Walmart shelf. I think it depends on where you live in the United States, where some of these cookies were loved. You can go down to the Dollar General in my city and pick up a package of ding dongs!
@carololeary5929Ай бұрын
Interesting. I find spritz to be much easier to make than rolled cookie-cutter ones. For one thing, you press the spritz directly onto the cookie sheet. I always managed to tear or mangle rolled cookies while I moved them from the counter to the pan. 😀

I remember all of these wonderful cookies. It's too bad that you can't find them anymore. So sad that their not around anymore. They were great cookies not like some of the cookies that are on the shelves today! Alot of them are junk. I'm 70 years old and don't appreciate the variety that's out there there now and I don't bake. It's all a sad situation for me. 💔

My thumbprint cookies are called Angel Thumbs and I make them every year at Christmas. There are variation recipes all over the internet during the holiday season. My Mom used to make the Spritz cookies. The tree version with her almond extract. They were good. The thumbprint cookies I’ve seen in my local grocery stores. They were, I mean apricot (?). I’ve picked them up every so often. Same with Stella Doro Sponge Annisette but I get them maybe only if I can get them under $7.00.
