@suegraham52994 жыл бұрын
FYI (For Your Information) ‘sleep tight’ actually comes from a time in the past when the bed base was strung with ropes a bit like a hammock: Over time the ropes would loosen and would need to tightening. Therefore, to say sleep tight was to say sleep comfortably as your mattress was supported with the correct tension. To ‘Hit the hay’ comes from the fact that many lower of the poorer people used to stuff their ‘mattresses’ with hay.

I never heard anyone say "Top of the morning to you." but I saw it in a book. I once went to a seminar with coworkers about "Dealing With Difficult People". The next day, we each addressed the boss with "Top of the morning to you." Our formulaic salutation left no doubt about whom we thought was a difficult person.

Did you know... The expression "sleep tight" comes from a time before box springs. Under the matress was a frame, usually wooden, with bits of rope tied from side to side forming a sort of grid to support the mattress. Because rope stretches, it needed to be tightened nightly. Also if the knots weren't tied tight, they would slip and you might end up on the floor! 💜🌞🌵😷
