20) DIY Stomp Box Build + Analysis

My pal just had a fire at his place and had a lot of smaller synth gear and studio electronics. Meaning he’s got an insurance claim and I’ve got a ton of kludge bits to try to isolate the working blocks from. So your philosophy of placing those pads to jump so you can isolate the blocks of circuitry for analytical purpose is one that I’ll keep in mind. My hunch is that after it’s been blow dried, much of his stuff shouldn’t have really suffered all too much damage. The more exposed and unsealed stuff, and batteries being the more damaged areas! It’ll be a decent experiment in realizing just how much damage can we expect a fire and the inevitable hoses do to a little home studio full of electronics. Thanks again!!

this turned out quite nice! I never painted my stomp boxes like that and always used one of those labeling machines for the text - thanks for inspiration there, man! building/designing the circuits, I always relied on the long-winded math, hit and miss and my ears. seeing you use the signal generator and the signal analyser brought on a 'doh!' moment....add two more 'necessities' to the shopping list - the wife will be thrilled. bless her, she thought the purchase of the rigol mso would be the end of the story ;) excellent video as usual mate & ta very much for posting.....looking forward to more of the same :)

Great video! I am still a novice with HP/LP filters, so seeing the DSA results was interesting. It would have been nice to have a little more of a demo of the stomp box and then compare that with the DSA results. I am really looking forward to the F5 videos because I am hoping to build something similar. I built an LM386 guitar amp and a few other amps just on breadboards. I am looking to step up to something that doesn't rely heavily on ICs for my next project.

Thanks! I've been in the digital side of things for so long, I had to pull out some books on filters again. The DSA is a nice tool that lets you see whats actually going on - to double check the theory. I love it, but am afraid its on its last leg - in fact it died half way through shooting and I had to repair, though that didn't make the cut. That ol' 386 is still being manufactured huh... Good luck on the amplifier projects.

Awesome video as usual! Loved the project and looking forward to the F5 videos. How did you make that silkscreen for the painting process? I would be interested in that since I would love to add some more color to my projects!

Thanks for the compliment! The airbrush mask was done with craft store adhesive backed vinyl and cut with a Cameo Silhouette. The software upgrade lets you handle SVG files which I created using Adobe Illustrator. The other machine out there is the Cricut, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't let you cut custom graphics.
