I sure miss shopping at book stores, music stores, department stores, and video stores. The good feelings associated with nostalgia.

I loved Borders Books. I could spend hours in that store and spent obscene amounts of money there.

Thought it funny that you showed a picture of comedian Andy Kaufman when talking about Kaufman brothers and KB Toys! 😂

In 1984 my wife's commencement speaker was Mervin G Morris at Long Beach State University California. Sure wish I had a copy of his speech and read it to all these students today.

Great coverage. But still no Hills Dept Store?

I once wrkd in the toy depth at Hill's in Ohio during high school. Christmas time was a total nightmare. Got pulled multiple out of my depth to wrk layaway, gathering carts outside, just to go back to my depth to find it destroyed. Especially the model cars that were quite popular for boys back then

There used to be a Borders in Scharaville. I would get books and music there. And also DVDs. And I also remember B Dolton.

I definitely remember Children's Palace, as there was only one in my city. We went there once a year, to buy our Christmas presents all throughout the 70s. We also went to Service Merchandise a lot too.

Yes, I remember Child’s World to some degree, but, while KB Stores went into the malls, the next toy store to have their own store fronts was Children’s Palace which is one you didn’t mention!

K-B Toys and Child World were two separate chains.

Sad to see these stores close due to customers choosing Walmart and the "click" of online shopping. Ugh. ☹. - Heather

Or is it that we are all lazy and purchase things online instead of spending perhaps a bit more at a brick and mortar store.

The interesting “pattern” that seems to run throughout the video is, almost ALL these once upon a time retailers FOLDED from the year 2000 & onwards! Hmmm 🤔 😡

Yeah, wonder if it has something to do with that newfangled internet thing and not whatever else it is you’re alluding to?

I worked at 2 Ames locations in small town Indiana, I had started working at one full time and, Murphy’s was going out of business and, Ames was going in! It’s Vincennes, Indiana! You pronounced it wrong! Before it was Lazarus it was Shillito’s, then, Shillito’s Rike’s!

Child World was my favorite store. They always had the newest toys first. Most of my best memories are from Child World, Bradlees & Kay Bee. Why is this video mixing Kay-Bee with Child World? they were 2 separate companies. Child World went out of business years before Kay-Bee.

Let’s not forget Children’s Palace, Children’s World wasn’t around that long when, I was a kid, Children’s Palace was more a part of my generation that came out in the mid 70s!
