It may have been covered previously, but I'm surprised Kay Yu's HoloCure isn't on this list. Even if one isn't into HoloLive or the Vtuber community at all, the use of special abilities and the fusion/collaboration of weapons (and the stage bosses) set the game apart from being Another Vampire Survivors Clone.

I completely agree. I'm not really into HoloLive or Vtubers whatsoever, I'll watch a couple of the clips now and then when youtube recommends one that looks amusing, but other than that I don't bother with them, yet I genuinely enjoy Holocure and have put quite a number of hours into it. I honestly like it better than the game it's inspired by. The artwork is cute, the characters all having unique skills and ults is fun, and like you said the item/weapon fusions and bosses do a lot to set it apart.

Another really good free game would have to be Endless Sky which is a topdown 4x space sim in the same vein as star sector and the X series but with a ton of writing that really fleshes everything out. Genuinely playing this game gave me the feeling that you get when sitting down and opening up a good book, but that isnt to say that the writing is the bulk of the game, as thats far from it.

One of the best free games I've played recently on Steam is Songs from the Iron Sea. It's an underwater "platformer" that's only 30 minutes short, but a very memorable one. Unfortunately, the number of reviews is quite low, but also over 95% positive. Another, even shorter, but no less memorable experience is "Swallow the Sea".

POE and monster hunter rise/sunbreak demos, thats what i would recommend in POE one of the best players managed to win big race without any bought stuff like stashes so you can for sure enjoy the whole game without spending a dime. and when it comes to mh demos i personally spend like 100h on each of them. MH is all about hunting bosses over and over again so demos give you like 75% of the gameplay for free
