Dolemite is a tremendous piece of work. One needs to see some of Moore's work for context, it is also very funny, to have a broader appreciation of the movie and Murphy's dedicated homage.

The Invention of Lying and Heartbreakers are so funny and so sadly underrated! (In general; not referring to you or your ranking system. 😊) Edited to add a few very funny movies also on Netflix right now: Police Academy: The first, the original, the best. Classic it's comedy along the lines of Airplane! and The Naked Gun. (If you've never seen or even heard of those movies... well, I am genuinely sad for you!) The Waterboy: One of Adam Sandler's best. Along with the usual suspects, the cast includes Fairuza Balk, Henry Winkler, and the amazing Kathy Bates. (Don't Mess With The Zohan is also on Netflix, and it's actually really funny. I remember finding it much better than I expected it to be!) Technically, it's a stand-up special BUT it WAS shown in movie theaters back in the day, and it's another early 80's classic with a very young Eddie Murphy in a red leather suit. Eddie Murphy: Delirious. This is a movie that was a MUST SEE back in the day, and even if they haven't seen it in a very long time, just about everyone who ever went to the movies or spent their Friday nights at Blockbuster Video stocking up their weekend entertainment (i.e. old Gen-Xers like myself) can recite entire bits from this classic, beloved, and hilarious introduction of Eddie Murphy to the world. Try it out for yourself; find a friend or family member who is vaguely circling around their 50th birthday, give or take a few years. Look them in the eye and say, "Goonie Goo Goo!" Or "Just roll Charlie around, he'll be alright." Or taunt them with invisible creamery treats, sing-songing, "I have some ice cream! I have some ice cream! You don't got none, cuz you on the welfare and can't afford it... Wanna lick? PSYCH!" WARNING: Do keep in mind that there may be jokes/bits that haven't aged well, as comedians during this time didn't worry about offending people with a joke and political correctness was not a thing yet. Don't let that stop you from watching it though. Just pretend it's 1982 and comedians actually went out of their way to be crude and offensive. It was a different time for sure. But still: it's a classic.Delirious. The Red Leather special. VERY funny and very quotable. I mean... approximately 40 years later, I can recite the whole family bbq bit, or the GI Joe in the bathtub bit, practically word for word and it's still some of the funniest shit I've ever heard (or seen) in my whole life. 😁 ✌

Nailed it with this one, D-V. At first I kinda wondered why you didn’t do an all out V-day themed video, but as the list progressed... I gotta just learn to trust the Jedi master on these. There’s always something on these lists that I end up wanting to watch. And it’s not just because you’re a good salesman either- there’s actual substance on these lists. So when you say that you’re not fucking around anymore oh wait that ended up being a fart joke... no but really I can tell you put your best foot forward on these. Creating lists you gotta have this pride and at the same time it creates a sort of sense of vulnerability. Idk man I just wanted to say you nailed it.

Dolemite is the funniest new film I've seen in more years than I can remember. Criminally underrated at a time when big name, cinema release new comedies are 95% derivative, humourless tripe. Kung Fu Hustle is amazing (Stephen Chow rocks), albeit definitely a step behind the brilliant Shaolin Soccer. Scott Pilgrim is all kinds of awesome, although not really that funny on a comedic film level. The Other Guys is also very good. The state of today's cinema is one in which funny new comedies are near impossible to find. They just seem derivative, unfunny, overly p.c., uninspired and lame. That said, one of my all time favourites is The Jerk, so maybe it's me! Cheers for the list Darren!

Now i think they are both insanely funny and i really cant explain why. I like The Other Guys pretty immediately tho.

I loved Kung Fu Hustle so much I bought it, only to discover another hilarious quirk of the DVD. Watch it with subtitles and dubbing turned on simultaneously. Obviously, the sub translators and dub translators never bothered communicating with each other! I only hope you have to opportunity to do the same. It takes a really hilarious movie to another level.

I don’t think it’s racist and I’m African American. But then I think I might a bit older than you. To me, it’s just a description as I remember a time when people of color had very very limited presence in movies and television and a good percentage of that wasn’t done in a positive light. Again possibly a generational thing.

New comedic cinema that is actually good quality, original and funny is so very rare these days. An almost extinct genre. I find myself going back and re-watching classics like The Jerk, The Big Lebowski, Anchorman, Tropic Thunder, Stripes, Happy Gilmore and others I've seen so many times I can almost quote word for word, simply because any time I check out a newly released "comedy", I'm sorely disappointed. "Dolemite Is My Name" was the funniest new movie in years. Also "Blackkklansman".. they're the only two genuinely funny movies I can think of from the last five or more years (in addition to IT - chapter 1 & 2!!).
