I worked as a driver for a pizza place too. Its so true poor and low income tip. One lady asked me what was my biggest tip. As a joke i told her $100 usd. She gave me $100 n cash and a check for $50 more. I was happy with that delivery. But another time a lady asked me did i mind taking change instead of $5 bill. I told her i will take change no problem. She came to me with a big pickle jar full of coins. I laughed and thanked her. Two months later i cashed it n it was $175 dollars. I was even given 5 gallons of gas as a tip. But i took it. Less i had to spend on gas. I loved that job.

I worked delivery for a few years. Never was gas, maintenance, or rentals paid by the employer. And cheap customers could care less if you compliment their pet, cheap customers are always cheap.

Your tip should be 15% to 20%. Closer to 20. Delivery drivers have to pay for gas, oil changes and wear and tear on the vehicle. Tip well!

I disagree with this. I based it on distance, order amount (few items, more, group, etc), how the chain generally treats me, weather conditions and so on. So generally I will start from 15% then goes from there.

You forgot to include that some places have a minimum price for delivery. My local Chinese food place I order from often has a minimum delivery price of $10, and my meal costs less than $8.50, so I always pick it up. Don't get mad if they can't deliver. Also, I tip better when they deliver pizza for me in bad weather (but I won't make them come out in blizzard conditions).

You have to understand though, some of us don't have this option though. For instance I am deaf and blind and there's no palpable food options across the street. So I might need to order foods during bad conditions. I will of course tip dearly to compensate for the risks, conditions, etc.

If I deliver $100 worth of food, 15% equals $15. If I deliver $5 worth of food, $0.75 equals 15%. Sometimes, I'll travel farther for a $5 order, than a more expensive order. Suggestion: tip your driver, depending on distance and volume. $3 is a nice minimum.

Anthony Tummy Could take about 5 minutes to stretch out, put sauce, cheese, and toppings. Then it would take about another 10 minutes in the oven. If it’s busy and there’s a lot of orders in the oven, it could take another 5 minutes to find and cut your pizza with other sides. Then once it’s ready, it can take 10-15 minutes for the driver to get to your door :)

the best tips come from middle class homes almost always......I did home appliance deliveries for 11 years in NY,NJ and Some Philly. 95% of the best tips came from Cops, Construction Workers and others like that. The Rich and poor barely tipped at all, funny thing is the Rich often tried to get us to do "Extras" for free or really Cheaply. i had Rich people offer me $5 to move their old Fridge down two flights!!!! I would tell them " I'll give you $10 to watch you do it". I love when a couple leave a waitress $4 tip on a $60 dinner and then leave in a $125,000 CAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tips are.... well, whatever you want to give them if you feel like it. Their job is to deliver, it's not like their job is something else and they are going out of their way for you. In the UK, we tip if we get outstanding service and a kickass customer experience, not because it's an obligation. If our service suffers because we didn't tip, well, time to get better staff.
