My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. I did exactly what he said ...wasted time, searching around for all sorts of methods and ignoring the Wellesley course via edX. I don't love it, but it does organize me. That's good to know because I learnt Buongiorno as meaning either Good Morning/Good Day/Hello, so I've always thought you could say it as a more formal opening. Turns out it only means Good Morning.. that's the problem of learning languages by yourself; you have no one to tell you you're learning something incorrectly. It's so difficult learning a language alone. Thank you for the comment by the way... I've been learning Italian for a little over a year now and can't believe I've learnt one of the most common words incorrectly. Which makes me worried of what all else I've learnt wrong 😩

Ummmm but buongiorno means good morning or good day not Hello, it is a Formal way to greet people that are not your friends, ciao means Hello and you use this for your friends or family. You can also say ciao amore buongiorno which means Hello love good morning.
