Anyone who thinks crash pads shouldn’t be used should have to take a bump onto a bare floor and then see how they like it. Most wrestlers aren’t paid as much as you think, and as most are on “independent contractor” deals, they have to cover their own medical expenses (and of course, if they are injured, they can’t wrestle and earn money).

I was lucky enough to get a chair that Shane o Mac used on Big Show before Judgement Day 2000. I always thought they used cheap/thin metal chairs that wouldn’t hurt much. @@blackwingdragonmasta your cap is cap 🧢. I was at that ppv hanging out behind freedom hall several hours before the show. Met quite a few wrestlers, Angle, Hardy’s, Lita, too cool, and some others. Godfather nearly ran my buddy over driving in blasting some old soul music with a car full of smoke. The road crew was unloading a bunch of tables for the show and we were begging them to let us have one of them. We knew they wouldn’t give us one, we were just cutting up having fun with them. But then one came over with the chair and said Shane used it on Big Show on the previous Smackdown. Back then I taped all the shows, so I was able to go back and confirm if it were real or not. Same type of chair, same off center sticker on the bottom, same dent that imprinted off Shows head, same leg broken off when Shane choke slammed him off it with help from his henchman. It was absolutely that chair, and was absolutely a heavy duty mofo. I don’t have it anymore, but somewhere have a pic of me holding it with the Hardy Boys. They didn’t always use the same chairs, but they definitely did a lot of dumb things back then. Mick Foley has said as such pertaining to his RR 99 match against Rock and the incident with that chair. Ken Shamrock took 1 single similar chair shot from Rock a couple years before that and didn’t have to worry about pretending to sell it. Look that one up if you haven’t seen it. I wish I had the time to just sift through comments and call people liars, but unfortunately I have a real life to live. Keep up the good work, and have fun Cappin yourself in your moms basement. 🖐️ 💦

I'd love to know more about in-ring communication during a match. Like, in a tag match, when one guy is getting beaten in the ring by the other team and is struggling to reach his partner to tag him in, his partner is on the outside of the ropes reaching in for him to tag... If his hand is palm down it means don't make the tag. If his hand is palm up it means make the tag.
@scribe570
@scribe570 Жыл бұрын
I learned one of these long ago from a guy who was an independent wrestler. If your head is in a leg scissors and you try to leap out of it, your palms on the legs mean "Don't let me out." If you reverse your palms and just your fingertip are on his legs, time to let you out of the hold. Simple, but a secret inside the biz. It's fascinating that two guys who look like they are opposing each other every second of a match are working together. No surprises during a match.

Nationwide Arena was sold out when I went in 2010. It was PACKED! Just a regular taping of Raw too. The only black curtains they had up were behind the wrestlers entrance so obviously that area had to be blocked off. I think it's important to note that just because they might've done something once or twice, that doesn't mean they do it every time.
@shadowangel2235
@shadowangel2235 Жыл бұрын
Once or twice, lol. WWE even lied about House Show attendances in the past. They are usually completely wrong and overinflated. Also they usually hand out a couple thousand free tickets for every show as well. Considering WWE is a publicly traded company, they are forced to tell their share holders the real numbers and they vastly differ from the claims each and every single time. Then again, every promotion does and did it to look good. Heck, WCW once managed to announce an attendance as low than it actually was.

I say the opposite is true. I'm more interested in the business of wrestling so I do pay some attention to things on KZbin and these wrestling channels. But what I watch for entertainment's sake is IMPACT! They have storylines, but don't need to use up a half hour of ring time to tell them. They use that time to wrestle. That IS what i'm there for! They will either do a run-in, or someone comes out after the match to taunt someone for 3 to 10 minutes to push the story. Only one or two, one or two minute backstage interviews too. My favorite term to all the others who try to be WWE 3.0 (AEW is version 2.0)? Shut up and wrestle!!!!

As much as I love these informative videos, this sadly amongst other things with the evolution of the internet have ruined the magic we enjoyed as pre-teens and teenagers growing up in the 90's and early 00's during the Federation days. Not knowing what Rey Mysterio looked like (I didn't watch him in WCW) was ultimately ruined when the internet became more accessible. Learning when I was a kid that Kane came from hell and was a "big red demon" was what made the character exciting. Now I look back at those episodes on Peacock TV with disappointment remembering how innocent we were and how magical the WWE was back then. Call me weird but I cannot be the only one who feels this way. WWE feels way too fake knowing they're all on social media and such portraying a character on screen like it's a movie. So game breaking and ruining the immersiveness.

The other reason only a small cut on the head is required: the blood that reaches the top of the head is working against gravity so there’s a huge amount of pressure there. That’s why even the smallest cut is a monster gusher.

Yes, I had one of those once as a kid. The other kids went nuts as blood streamed down my forehead over my face. However, once my mom wiped it clean, it didn't even need stitches, and I didn't suffer at all. I just had to sit quietly till it stopped bleeding. I have to laugh - in boxing the whole idea is to stop a cut and keep blood out of the eyes, so they work to remove it. Stupid is the wrestler who would ever wipe away his crimson mask!

So I actually helped set up our arena for Monday Night Raw and helped set up the tables. They're real tables, and they cut off the band around the table and then spray painted them black so it looks like it's there. And they sawed the middle of the metal bars on both sides so it breaks easily. And of course we had to very carefully replace the stickers on them. They take the bands off because of an incident with hard-core Holly where when he broke through table, the band didn't break and sliced his back up badly

Nice to see that they find a way to make it a bit safer for the wrestlers. I think the ring should have some kind of foam or something so it wouldn't hurt the wrestlers as much at least (if they don't do that already) this makes me enjoy watching wrestling at home because it keeps the illusion there, and make it more enjoyable to watch. WWE also uses fake turnbuckle & mat sounds. It's glaringly obvious they're using a sound effect of someone falling/stomping on the mat if you go to a live show. You'll actually see a lot of these types of prep & set ups for the next spot in the arena during the commercial breaks.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around #32. So when they had somebody get hurt by a fake Sledgehammer... their response was "Well let's use *real* ones from now on"? I get that only a select few people can use them and they cover the head with their hand, but it still feels like an accident with a real one would be worse than an accident with a rubber one.
@scribe570
@scribe570 Жыл бұрын
I guess the idea is that if you have a rubber sledgehammer you will actually hit someone with it, but it can injure the person. If you have a steel head, you won't really swing it at a guy. I always thought the sledgehammer exposed the business. Who uses a sledgehammer the way Triple H did?? Thus, a heel with a sledgehammer wasn't so mean after all. He used it like a battering ram instead of like a baseball bat.

“It’s believed that the fake barbed wire uses rubber tips, which won’t cause damage.” My understanding is the fake one had barbs made of solder. And since it still cut Trip’s face up pretty bad anyway when Cavtus hit him with it (Royal Rumble ‘00), they decided from then on to just use real barbed wire, since the solder wire wasn’t actually any safer.
@esta7763
@esta7763 Жыл бұрын
Also if the barbed wire is spread out over more of your body when you land on it, there's less damage per barb as the barb impacts less body mass. That's why there's lots of nails on a bed of nails. Anyone can lay on a bed of nails if you do it right. if there's a lot of them because each nail doesn't have much force applied on it because the body is spread out. Also, wrestlers using things like this do take lots of pain killers so they don't feel it as much.

Flint paper in the tape on the thumbs and fingers. You can see how they rub their thumbs up the fingers when they throw it. At least that's how, the first one to do it, the Original Sheik (Ed Farhat) did it back in the late 60s - early 70s, in his Detroit region territory. Sabu is Ed's nephew. Ed used to "manage" Sabu and RVD at times deep into his 70s. And of course being the ultimate bad guy, he would get involved. Also tagged with Sabu a few times then. Bobby Heenan made his managerial name by managing the Sheik, after Eddie "the Brain" Creechman retired. That's where his "Brain" and "Weasel" nick names came from. Those were Eddie's "other" names.

@@Kaitri But it doesn't help with internal injuries, which are usually the most dangerous. Most people forget that our bodies are not one solid mass but made up of many individual delicate parts. So when our bodies come to a sudden stop our organs keep moving forward. Think of it like a car crash. You could have an indestructible car but if you are not fastened in then if your car crashes at high speeds then your body will keep moving at that speed until it hits the front of the inside. It's why athletes like wrestlers and football players end up with severe brain injuries because those tackles and crashes make the brain bounce and crash against the skull.
