My mom used to save one dollar bills. I never knew how many. My mom ended up with dementia. When I was cleaning out my parent’s house I found $9,985 in ones.😳

When I was cleaning out my grandparents attic, they had bookshelves of very old religious books. They were Baptist. I began throwing them down the stairs to be collected and recycled. My best friend was helping me, and she began to say, why are you throwing money down the stairs?! We soon realized that my grandfather had tucked away several thousand dollars in multiple bill type in the pages of all of these religious book. The thinking was brilliant. Very unlikely that a thief would be paging through religious books about going to hell!!

My mom always saved five dollar bills. When she passed away seven years ago, I started doing it. I’ve purchased a kitchen table and chairs, quite expensive but a great sale, two lovely living room chairs, and a new bed from my five dollar bill savings. Now I’m working toward a new wall unit for my living room. It can be done!

When I travel, I pack items i can leave behind. Old sandals, tops, or a dress that has been used for years or no longer fit. This gives me more space in carry-on for new items purchased or souvenirs. Also, maybe a housekeeping person can use it.

I know you were trying to be diplomatic when talking about your faith, but I truly believe God wants what is good for his children. Although I wasn't built for the outdoors necessarily, I find spending more time in creation/nature helps my contentment levels. Sometimes, it may mean making deliberate steps to walk in a park or explore a field nearby. I try to approach it with a sense of wonder, awe, and gratefulness. Thank you, God for another day.

Hi Jennifer, big fan of your channel here! I love your tip about the rule where you can only buy that item in cash. My current 2015 car I drive I bought new in early 2016 in cash when the dealers were desperate to get it off the lot to make room for the newer models. I still drive it, even though it is a basic model car and old now. I've been saving all of this time to later buy another car fully in cash whenever it either dies or becomes more expensive to maintain than it is worth. At this point in my life I can't even imagine ever financing a car as a depreciating asset ever again in my life. It's best, imo, to use your current car until it doesn't become smart to continue to do so. And until then to save up the cash to get a new or used one at the level at which you can afford. Btw, have you ever considered doing a video on the concept of why one should not try to Keep Up With The Jonses and all the ways it can negatively impact you if you do? I know so many people who try to appear as though they are wealthy and live a lavish lifestyle while they are literally going into debt to put on those appearances. I'm hoping to see more videos from smart content creators like yourself that can educate folks on why cash is king and why one shouldn't compare themselves to others and only buy what they can truly afford. Yes I drive a 9 year old non luxury car, I also live in a very very very expensive area in the US and do not have the largest house on my block, but it is fully paid off and I have no mortgage. My daughter also goes to a public school which is very good, but it is not private like many send their kids to and like to tell everyone about, yet at age 5, her 529 plan is halfway to what she will need at age 18 (includes anticipated inflation) to fund where she wants to go at that time. I would challenge people to focus not on the biggest and newest and best showy items to compete with others but instead to think about what you can afford comfortably so you never have to owe (or have your child later owe come college time) anything to anyone. Try not to care so much about others and needing to one up them. Like Dave Ramsey likes to talk about, I never want to be a slave to any lender at whatever cost that comes at, so I'll continue to live at the level I'm at where I can pay cash for things and invest properly. If the Joneses judge me by outward appearances for doing this, then so be it/I can't care too much about it either as they could likely be in some kind of debt themselves when all the while they are hypocritically judging others.

I started becoming more minimalist a few years ago and I believe it helps save money for many reasons. One is that once you notice the benefits of having less clutter, you're less tempted to buy new items. Another is that you can sell some of the items to make some cash. Thanks for another great video. It's always a pleasure to hear your tips.

Great video, again Jennifer! Sometimes it takes until you're old, like myself to find contentment in the everyday. You think" I've been there, done that" and it doesn't hold any excitement. I've turned to the relaxing exercise of gardening for enjoyment. Cheers!

I pay with cash as much as I can and I always pay cash for food. Any coins I have at the end of the day goes into a jar. I cash in the coins every few years. Right now I have a big cookie jar and a pickle jar full of coins waiting to be cashed in.

I am an atheist, but I agree with the last one in that we sometimes need to refocus on something bigger than ourselves and find joy and meaning outside of focusing on social media and everything big and flashy. Very different than from your pov, but I recently adopted a cat and she has already brought so much joy and peace to my life. She is technically causing me to lose on savings I never had to use in the past, but I spend less time doom scrolling and I feel so much more content across the board.

When you become a minimalist, you can clean your house in five minutes. The only things you buy are food and supplies when you need to repair something gas utilities that’s about it. You only purchase experiences for entertainment but of course you need to be debt-free. I can’t even remember the last time I wentinto a box store, you would be shocked how much money that frees up of course we cook 99% of our food that way it’s healthy and affordable
