Can someone explain the pine tar thing to me? Why is it on the bats at all, and how would having more help a hitter? If it gives an advantage, why is it allowed at all??
@DanErsson-st7nh9 ай бұрын
Pine Tar is a sticky substance which is allowed/legal in baseball. It is used to help the batter get a better grip of the handle/bottom of the bat. If it is too far up the bat (The Barrel) then it is considered illegal. In this specific case, it gave no advantage. Hence why the ruling was overturned. If you look at the bat in the video, the dark part is pine tar and George Brett was known to apply it there so that he could tap/rub his hands on that spot without having to exit the batters box to get more. Hope this helped.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; the Patriots got a slap on the wrist for both Deflategate and Spygate. The NFL needs to employ a Death Penalty similar to the one the NCAA applied to SMU back in the 1980's, with a minimum $10,000,000 fine and forfeiture of all draft picks for the next 3 years, to be redistributed via a lottery similar to the structure of the NBA's draft lottery to the other teams in the NFL. You need a penalty that makes it absolutely clear there is no tolerance of cheating in any shape, form or fashion.
