Just a quick follow-up on the concerns someone raised in the comments about using a titanium nib potentially causing problems: My Scribe's screen has stayed in top condition since recording the video, even with regular use of the titanium tip. Still, I’d recommend to regularly check your screen for signs of wear just as a precaution. Adding a screen protector could also offer a layer of safety. Personally, I’ll continue to use the titanium nib without additional protection, but it's really about what you're comfortable with. Regular inspection of your screen to maintain its condition is generally a smart habit - with or without a screen protector. 🖖

Great tutorial. What brand of titanium nib do you use? What screen protector would you recommend for the scribe? Also, the LCARS display in your background intrigues the trekker in me. Is that functional or just eye candy?

Another pen tip: if you are taking notes, you can lay then pen down on left bezel (the wide bezel) and it will turn the kindle off. When you pick up the pen it will turn back on and you can continue writing.

This also works for left-handed use. Just flip the device 180, in order to the wide "grip" area on the appropriate side to suit your handedness...

I love my kindle scribe. great video. do you know when they will make another update? I was wondering if they will bring the "alt + tab" switching back and forth between windows quickly like we do in the computer. I find it annoying having to click through buttons just to switch between my book and my notes.
@ChalidRaqami11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately Amazon is pretty tight-lipped about future plans right now. In the beginning they communicated upcoming changes, but not at the moment. Personally, I think they'll continue to improve the software further. Alt-Tabbing is something Kobo has implemented quite well, so they might add that as well in the future.

I;m in book, but I don't have the option to put the clock visible (after pressing the A button). Is that something that I need to enable somewhere else? In fact, I'm seeing that I don't have other options that you are describing, like Word Wise :(
@ChalidRaqami8 ай бұрын
Hi - you need to specifically need to turn on the clock in the settings. Go to the text settings (Aa-button), and then to "More". Here you can find the "Show Clock While Reading", which you need to tap once to switch it on. Here you can also find the option to turn on Word Wise. Scroll down to the bottom of that same menu and turn on Word Wise. However, it's not available in all books, so you might not be able to see it if the books doesn't support it.

@ChalidRaqami8 ай бұрын
Yes, you can make the keyboard and the rest of the user interface slightly larger by going to the device's settings and switch the layout size: More (bottom right corner on the homescreen) -> Accessibility -> Layout size -> Large. Not the biggest difference, but definitely better than nothing.

Oh that hide toolbar option is a game changer. It does kind of distract during book reading. Thank you 🎉 // also do you still use the titanium tips? Any light scratches etc on screen over time?
@ChalidRaqami7 ай бұрын
Yes, I still use them and haven't seen any scratches from normal use. But I also did more testing and intentionally scratched the screen with the titanium nib by putting on A LOT of pressure. So it's possible, but I had to press pretty hard on the screen for it to happen. Those scratches are almost invisible (even if you know where they are) with the backlight turned on, but can be seen if the backlight is off. I'll do a follow up on the topic in a couple of weeks.

Can you underline, not hilight , text in Kindle Scribe with premium pen ?
@ChalidRaqami6 ай бұрын
Only in PDF-files that you sent through the Send-To-Kindle function (and are converted in the process). In regular Kindle ebooks it's not possible to annotate directly on a page. You can only do highlights and sticky notes here at the moment.
@labridogel9 ай бұрын
Is there any reason to get the storage size above and beyond the 16gb base if you don’t plan to do audiobooks on the device? Do notes chew up a bunch of storage? Are all of your notes stored to cloud so you can offload / re-download later?
@ChalidRaqami9 ай бұрын
No, I'd say the 16 gigs model is more than enough for most people when not using audiobooks. Notebooks don't take up as much room, but PDFs/comics/mangas might take up a little more. But still, 16 gigs is sufficient imho. Yes, notes are synced and can be removed from the Scribe and re-downloaded later with just a tap.
@dexm86768 ай бұрын
How can you turn off page turning with the pen? Every time I’m writing in a pdf the pages turn based on the direction my pen is writing. Super annoying and rendering the scribe useless.

@ChalidRaqami11 ай бұрын
Thanks :) That's not possible on the Kindle Scribe. What you can do is to highlight larger portions on a page and add a sticky note with handwriting. On Onyx Boox tablets, you can copy text from a book and paste it into a notebook.

No it's not unfounded, titanium nibs aren't recommended. There's no immediate apparent damage to our eyes, but the nib will wear away the top layer of the screen. You just won't notice it right away. It's easier and cheaper to replace the nibs rather than the screen of the device. There's also issues with prolonged use damages the mechanism for pressure sensitivity, which won't destroy the ability altogether, but will increasingly require more pressure to utilize. This isn't new info either, it's been a long standing thing with pen tablets in general since people been trying to minimize or eliminate the need to replace nibs. It's not worth it...
@ChalidRaqami9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Obviously I can't vouch for a titanium nib not causing any damage. But besides my personal experience, I also did a bit of research on reddit beforehand (concerning Boox & Remarkable) and haven't found a single negative first-hand experience (only people mentioning to be careful) from anyone who had adverse effects in terms of screen wear. Do you have any info where I can read up on the topic? I'm definitely interested to learn more and potentially doing a follow up.

No, that's unfortunately not possible :-/ The Kobo Elipsa 2E has a cool feature to quickly switch between notebooks and ebooks. That's almost like what you're describing. Unfortunately the pen's latency is noticeably worse on that one.

How can I read my notebooks online?
@ChalidRaqami11 ай бұрын
Amazon makes it a bit difficult right now unfortunately. But you can do it with this workaround: 1. Install a user agent switcher for your browser. 2. Switch the user agent to iPad or Android 3. Open read.amazon.com/kindle-notebook?ref_=neo_mm_yn_na_kfa Without changing the user agent, you'll be redirected to the Kindle Scribe FAQs. So the first 2 steps are needed before it works. Maybe Amazon changes it back to being available regularly though, because a couple fo weeks ago it was working just fine with opening it regularly.
