@@SwissGermanBeginners My grandfather was from Bern and he went to Antwerp in 1928. His familie came from Köniz. My mother was Born in Belgium but during the war 1940-1945 she lives in Swiss in Bern and by a aunt in Glockental. There she went to school and learned Swiss - German. Later, when I was child, we came every year in Swiss to visit the family and so I learned to understand the wonderfull language. My mother passed away 30 years ago and the only way to be in contact with Swiss-German is listening SRF1 radio now. So I am happy to see you at You Tube now.😊🇨🇭❤️

I'm Swiss and I've never heard of only "zi". Most of the times you would also mumble the beginning, just very quickly so it get's more a "ezi". And what's more to say... in these days a lot of people also tend to use "Hallo" instead of "Grüezi". This isn't considered so informal anymore even among adults / older people. Actually even the "Hoi" and "Sali" are used less often than some years ago. They are often replaced by "Hallo" as well. With one exception: When adding the name, you'd rather use "Hoi" instead of "Hallo". So it's either "Hallo" only or "Hoi xy".

That's a really great video with some basic everyday phrases, liked it a lot! I also found helpful a slow pronunciation, as it allows to catch important details :) Thanks a lot for your efforts and looking forward to the next episodes! Btw, one question I've had in my mind for a long time but still not able to find the answer: What is the difference between simple "Grüezi" and "Grüezi wohl"? My guess that the latter is a more polite/respectful version but I'm not sure. In what situations one should you use "Grüezi wohl"? Thanks in advance :)
@SwissGermanBeginners3 жыл бұрын
Hi Valerii, thanks for watching my videos! :) I'd say "Grüezi wohl" is a bit outdated maybe. But I also use it sometimes, especially if I should know but don't remember the family name of the other person (and this happens quite often). :D So instead of saying their name "Grüezi Frau Müller", I just say "Grüezi wohl", to make it sound longer, haha. But these are just nuances and I'm sure other Swiss people would explain that differently.
