I still pray for him, but I think he is dangerous and unbalanced and he refuses to get help. 4. 31:32 {Defending the Trinity} What are your thoughts on the argument against the Trinity that points out the lack of a Trinitarian controversy (like that of Nicaea) in the time of Acts and the writing of the New Testament? 5. 33:36 {About False Prophets} How should we interpret Deuteronomy 13:6-9? Part of chapter is often used on Mormons for Joseph Smith being a false prophet...but if rejecting a false prophet is required, would it follow that this is required, too? This chapter - all or nothing? 6. 38:38 {“Being the Light” in Difficult Situations} As a new believer, I feel I won’t be able to go to my sister-in-law’s house again because they smoke weed at every gathering. How do I find balance between being the light & not being in certain situations? 7. 41:19 {Leading with Confidence, Not Cockiness} I just came into a lead role in a local ministry where many of the other adults are older than I. I want to be confident, but not cocky; Firm, but able to learn. Any tips? 8. 44:52 {About Cult Shunning/Shaming} How can we differentiate the instructions given by Paul in 1 Corinthians 5: 11 & by Jesus in Matthew 18: 15-17 with the shunning/shaming practices of certain cults like Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, etc.? 9. 49:01 {About Jesus’ Suffering} Did Jesus need to have suffered the most pain ever for Him to be worthy to save us? How should we answer the objection that some people have supposedly suffered worse pain, i.e. from torture or the Holocaust? 10. 52:29 {Praying for and Trusting in God’s Will} How should I pray? I prayed for my husband's health, and shortly thereafter, he died suddenly & unexpectedly. Oftentimes, I feel that my will is out of sync with Yahweh's. It hurts. 11. 55:36 {Do Modern Translations Hide Mythology?} Why do modern translations hide so much mythology? Leviathan and Behemoth are animals. Isaiah 34: 14, Lillith is an owl. Psalm 96: 5, Gods are idols and not demons. I fear this leads to materialism. 12. 59:46 {Witnessing Well at Work} I've had some really good conversations with friends at work about being a Christian. What are some good tips for me to continue talking to them without it seeming like I'm pushing it on them? 13. 1:02:26 {Who are the Nicolaitans?} Who are the Nicolaitans that are mentioned in Revelation 2:6? 14. 1:04:43 {Who Recorded Job 1:6?} Job 1:6 states that angels and Satan present themselves before the Lord and they proceed to have a conversation about Job in the ensuing verses. Who was there to witness and record the conversation? 15. 1:08:08 {About Noah’s Ark & Animals} How did the animals get onto Noah's ark? 16. 1:11:03 {The Correct Way to Pray} When I pray, sometimes it feels like I’m so deep in God’s love, but other times it feels like I’m talking to a wall. How can I be sure that I’m praying correctly and not just blabbering mindlessly? 17. 1:13:47 {Women Unclean Twice as Long?} In Leviticus 12, women are unclean and excluded from worship in the temple after giving birth. The time is doubled if the baby is a girl, and that has troubled my wife. Do you know the reason for this? 18. 1:17:22 {About telling “White Lies”} Is there such a thing as telling a "white lie" for the benefit of something? 19. 1:21:18 {Can We Focus Too Much on End Times?} As Christians, what should our attitude and mindset be toward end times stuff? I personally know many strong Christians who seem to be almost too focused or too concerned about end times. 20. 1:23:54 {Can we Roll Dice to Hear from God?} In Proverbs 16: 33, the lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord. Does this mean we can roll dice to get answers from God? Bonus Q! 1:31:18 Who do you think will win the Super Bowl on Sunday?

On the "women unclean twice as long" question -- as one somewhat trained in natural childbirth, let me contribute this -- there are hormonal differences in giving birth to a boy or a girl, that can lengthen the recovery time for a girl birth. By recovery, I mean how long it can take to stop the bleeding that continues to occur after a woman gives birth, as the inner lining of the uterus heals from separating from the placenta that nourished the baby in the womb through many connecting blood vessels. For some women, this is a big problem for many weeks, for others shorter, but generally more with a girl than a boy baby. It is not only unsanitary (even with modern conveniences it is no picnic), but also very tiring for the new mom. She does not want to trek to the tabernacle until she is over it, trust me!

Beautiful ❤ I'm learning more and more that there is a lot of grace and mercy worked into the "unclean" laws. (Or like, worked into every single thing God does) Like it's a way of getting people to rest and recover and keep the community healthy. For example, I used to be upset with Him for giving women periods and then "punishing" us for it, but could it be that he was giving us a time to rest and take care of our bodies well? A gift, not a punishment. Oh, and I'm not discounting how the Law also reflects His holiness and how we're supposed to be set apart. That's important, too.

If the parents are verbally abusive, they can take a stand and call them out on it,to make sure the parents knew that type of behavior would never be tolerated. They can also forgive them. How many times does jesus say we should forgive? You can forgive and care for them,without allowing them to hurt you. Like jesus said, if you only love those who love you or only those who are good to you,what good is your love? Matthew 5:43-48 NKJV “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

I'm just now starting to watch, and was so excited to see "binding and loosing", because I was radically saved from death in Oct 2016, and led into repentance/eternal salvation through Christ. I quickly fell into a false word of faith/charasmatic church that binded and lossed everything...lol Thankfully the Lord put a strong desire in my heart to purchase my first ever bible and to read it as much as possible daily, so within 6 months of being at the false church, I recognized they weren't doctrinally sound, but I still haven't quite figured out what binding and loosing is...lol THANK YOU Mike! Love your videos! You've definitely helped direct my path!

After I was saved, I reached out to a few christians I knew, and not one told me to read the bible for myself. They all told me I needed to go to church on Sundays and allow the pastors to interpret scripture for me :( I think one of the biggest deceits of satan against the christians is when he convinced them they didn't need to read the bible daily as their spiritual food :( So many "Christians" now cherry pick one verse daily, and take it completely out of context...just like that false church I was in. Reading the bible daily has changed my entire life, and I am a new creature in Christ. I try to tell everyone I can to PLEASE READ THE BIBLE, and I've bought and gifted out like 25 bibles since my salvation, because I feel a desperation in my soul to let people know how important our daily spiritual food is. Hey Mike. I love your videos man. You're the most thorough teacher I've ever seen and this is exactly the way I want to worship God; with sound thought. I was raised LDS, but this past month I officially left the church and told everybody in my family I did not believe Joseph Smith was a true prophet nor was LDS doctrine true. Two missionaries and the President of the church showed up to my front door and proceeded to (kindly, but with irritation) argue with me about doctrine. I shared with them my main two issues: I do not believe that we are saved due to works, and I do not believe God was once a man who became exhalted. They used James to back up salvation by works, and I don't think they really had a Biblical answer for the exhaltation of God. I saw you have some videos on Mormonism and they are great. They've helped me a lot. I was hoping you could make a new video where you speak from the perspective of a Mormon missionary/elder who is trying to inform a Christian of LDS Doctrine, and then in a simple fashion, counter the missionary with correct Christian doctrine. The reason this would be helpful is because missionaries still come to my door and their intention is to convince me that the LDS church is true and I have just strayed away. So I only have a 5-15 minute window to counter their arguments while they're on the doorstep. I'm trying to not only defend my position intelligently, but I'm trying to plant seeds in their minds and hearts that their religion might actually be false. I've done my own research and have tried to counter them biblically but I know that you will be able to help me out. Thanks Mike.

Maybe the community exploding is evidence that they’re getting something right. “Be a city on a hill” “by their fruits ye shall know them.” I think you should give the Church of Jesus Christ a second chance, read the Book of Mormon or something. I assure you that they’re not prioritizing growth over theology. The controversial parts of Mormonism are for the most part the less important or overblown parts of the religion. If they do avoid those topics for “PR reasons” it’s probably just because they’d rather focus on the important stuff. It’s the same thing as Protestant missionaries not wanting to dwell too long on the massacres and bloody rituals in the Old Testament, or Catholics not wanting to talk about crooked popes. They’re not hiding the teachings of Joseph Smith, they’re showcasing the the teachings of Jesus Christ.

I wrote a book about how to live the empowered Christian life and in ch. 6 in a section on “who/what is the church” and “who has the keys/what are keys” I go through many of these same findings and include what is binding/loosing. 40:27 I had that dilemma as a new believer. My friends were always smoking pot, and I was convicted to stop. After about 2 different times of 'caving in', I ended up telling them I couldn't hang out anymore - because of my weakness, not because I didn't care for them anymore. It was an interesting time of growing new friendships that walked the way I was learning.

I watched a video on binding and loosing yesterday that made a lot of sense- binding meant actually binding to something like covenant, or binding to the Spirit in relationship, etc. loosing meant to divide or divorce, etc. so basically we’ve been thinking of it the opposite of what it meant then. Idk, made total sense.

My current pastor was using that exchange between Jesus and Peter to say we can bind demons and loose good spirits in their place. I asked him to help me understand, and he never bothered. I believe Mike Winger might have buried the lede on that last question (casting lots, and the indwelling Spirit). The coming of the indwelling Spirit is a huge inflection point in Acts. Once that took place, there were many more "big decisions" that had to be made, and a number are recorded in some detail, but we never again see the casting of lots used to resolve those questions. Instead, the new model is consulting the word of God, prayer, and exercise of spiritual gift. These are the same characteristics that mark the change in worship and gathering place from the Jewish system and Temple and rituals, to the church of the living God centered on Christ and guided by the Spirit.
@MikeWinger2 жыл бұрын
The only reason I don’t lean on the idea that they cast lots only before the Spirit came and it shouldn’t be done after is because in John we read that the Holy Spirit was given to the apostles on the Mount of Olives, before Acts 1. There was a greater and more widespread experience with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 but I don’t want to discount what I read at the end of John. It’s true that we don’t read about them casting lots again. But I would add that it seems to have always been a rare thing anyhow, so not reading about it again doesn’t seem to make to much of a point. Just to be clear, I’m not advocating that we should go out and cast lots. I’m just saying that the observations about the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 and the fact that we don’t read about lots again afterward seem like rather thin data to base an interpretation on.

About praying for a sick husband that died: Its always Gods will to heal. If the husband did died after praying, doesn't mean that God wanted him to die. It's more possible that it was your belief in your prayers to heal him that fails, than Gods will to heal him. It is even more a relief to know God is faithful to his promise of healing do not change, but as humans we all have doubts and unbelief. Just read about the apostles.
@zoesabundantlife92482 жыл бұрын
Mike is absolutely right from my understanding on this... Something interesting that the Lord has had me studying lately is Jewish idioms…after all our savior was a Jew and so were most of if not all of the apostles. It has opened up so much revelation for me on the scripture and the way Jesus spoke…for example…the binding and loosing is an old Jewish idiom used as a legal term often used in court, so the keys being authority basically Jesus was giving Peter authority to allow and disallow or bind and loose decisions for the church or the Kingdom. We see an example of this authority in the book of acts where an authoritative decision had to be made regarding what rules the gentiles were expected to follow rather than expecting them to follow Jewish law (with circumcision for example). We tend to forget that Jesus was a jew sometimes I believe and by looking deeper in to Jewish culture we learn so much about the intent behind His words…another example is in Matthew where He’s talking about the “good eye” and the “bad eye”…it’s a well known Jewish saying (idiom) that good eye means to be generous and bad eye means to be stingy and when we know that and then read the verses before and after that it’s easy to see it makes sense because Jesus was making comments about money and belongings, etc… Thought I’d share because I found it very interesting and there is obviously so Much more, I would encourage you to study the “Jewishness” so to speak of our Lord and Savior as it is blessed me so much already in just the short time I have been doing it…sometimes it’s just the simplest things that we overlook that open up the Word of God to an extent we could have never imagined…when we realize the simple…Jesus was a Jew…and he was talking to Jews…it seems so obvious that we should be researching the Word from a Jewish point of view. May God bless you 🙏🏻🔥❤️

I did a recent study of Binding and Loosing. I tried to think like Mike (you know, biblically)! I did not isogete, I read the whole section. I studied other references, a variety of different bibles, and tried to let "scripture interpret scripture." This is what I came up with- The very first point I want to make about Matthew 16:19 is that whatever "power" or "authority" this scripture does or does not give, it was granted specifically to Peter, no mention is made of all believers, but Peter was being exclusively singled out. Next though I falsely practiced "binding and loosing" to cast out such and such it never felt right ( I assumed I didn't have enough faith- we are taught that in hypercharismatic circles). So eventually I did some digging. "Binding and loosing" is a Jewish phrase that any Jew of the time would have understood to mean a role of authority to say "this is acceptable, that is not, etc" Binding and Loosing was an authority given by kings to their stewards if the king planned to leave. In their absence the steward acted as an authority. This is reflected in the roles we see in Jesus and his upcoming death and resurrection and his relationship with Peter. The phrase "shall have been" is a verb tense meaning already done. This is a reference to all things being already reconciled in heavenly realms as acceptable or not acceptable. For instance we know the gospel shall have been loosed in heaven or previously commanded to be an allowable teaching. We do have certain authority as believers but not to cast out the devil (Jude 9). Not even an Archangel dared have such authority. Finally the context of this particular passage makes no reference whatsoever to casting out anything such as sickness or sin or cancer or demons. This is an example of isogesis (using just one verse to create a belief about something that just isn't there). Finally, "let scripture interpret scripture" -there is literally no mention anywhere else in scripture that gives believers any kind of binding or loosing authority. I was once taught that this verse gives us authority but given what I have come to discover I can no longer validate that claim nor practice it as such.
@vibeauxssxuaebiv34892 жыл бұрын
Jude 9 says (But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”) This has nothing to do with believers being unable to cast out the devil. This also has nothing to do with Michael the archangel casting out anything. This passage is about an angel not passing judgment on the devil. You can't take that verse alone as proof for what you said at all. You may need to review whether or not you're using isegesis there.

This is a plural you in chap 18's version of the verse. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Binding actually does happen in the following verse and I don't see how it's to do with church discipline: In Matthew chapter 12, the parable is as follows: Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Binding And Loosing? Q. What is binding and loosing? Is it appropriate for Christians to pray for binding and loosing? If not then what is the proper way? A. The concept of binding and loosing comes from Matt. 16:19 and is repeated in Matt 18:18. It comes from Jewish legal terminology where something bound was forbidden and something loosed was authorized. In Matt. 16:19 it was used in reference to the disciples’ authority regarding the Kingdom. Having the Keys to the Kingdom meant Peter, and by implication the others, could in effect open it to believers and close it to unbelievers on the Lord’s behalf. They did this by preaching the gospel, so when a person heard the gospel and asked to be saved, they had the authority to promise them entry into the Kingdom. In Matt 18:18 there was a second, related application. This one has to do with church discipline. If a person refuses to acknowledge his sin and be reconciled to a brother, the church has the authority to treat him or her like an unbeliever. The phrase “like an unbeliever” doesn’t mean the church can revoke a person’s salvation, but that after all the other steps have been followed can suspend the person from the rights of fellowship until there’s reconciliation. The Bible never refers to binding and loosing in the context of spiritual warfare. While believers do have authority over evil spirits in the Lord’s name (Luke 10:17), it doesn’t come from these verses, and to use “binding and loosing” in this context is a misapplication of Scripture. Paul demonstrated the proper way to deal with evil spirits in others when he said, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her.” (Acts 16:18) And in personal matters James 4:7 says, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” 2 Cor. 10:3-5 also outlines personal application.

Although I don’t think those things were really all that bad or wrong in the first place. I’m a little confused about how what Mike said about those verses supports your comment. Wasn’t he supporting the idea of lying for a greater cause (in some cases)? So wouldn’t he be on the Church of Jesus Christ’s side? (Assuming the church has actually lied about something.)

Basically one meaning is that Jesus gave out to Peter (and his apostles) his "authority" to act in the name of God (his father) under righteous to teach / called and perform miracles in his name. Its called the Priesthood. Many overlook this important aspect - but is important and noteworthy. You can't study to get it but be chosen (Like the "Chosen Film"). We can all be called in some sense if we obey and follow his example.

Concerning the first question, I always thought that there might be a connection between these two passages, especially considering the similarity in the way that they are phrased: "“Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven." Matthew 18:18-19 NKJV "And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” John 20:22-23 NKJV Personally, I think that "loosing" implies the forgiveness of sins, and "binding" implies the retaining of sins. And if you study the context of Matthew 18:15-17, which come right before verse 18, the topic was about forgiveness of sins, and not miracles or exorcisms or any other matter like that. Therefore, I think that "binding" in Matthew 18:18 was about refusing to forgive someone and allow them back into the congregation due to unrepentance, while "loosing" was about forgiving them and allowing them to continue as part of the congregation when they repent. By the way, I think that the implications of that passage are huge. Basically, a legitimate Christian, or more precisely, a legitimate group of Christians can tell whether someone is truly saved or not. And not only that, but they can legitimately request for someone's salvation. The latter is echoed by John and James in James 5:14-16 and 1 John 5:16.

Pastor Mike. For Question 17, I think another thing to consider is the circumcision at 8 days for the boy and redemption of the son at about a month after birth. These ceremonies may require the mother to be out and about, even go to the temple. So the mother needs to be 'unclean' onlu 7 days in order to be able to circumcise, and also be more clean(er) for the month ritual. Glad they didn't make it a female thing to, that would be female genital mutilation

I’m a physician (M.D.) what amybee40 wrote is NOT true. Lochia (postpartum vaginal bleeding) lasts typically up to 6 weeks postpartum independent of the offspring’s sex/gender. Sometimes baby females do have some vaginal bleeding similar to menses due to the breakdown of hypertrophic endometrial lining from maternal estrogen stimulation. Almost always this is normal and resolves in several days. Hebrew boys would have to be presented for their Brit, circumcision, on the 8th day. This would involve the new mother making arrangements beside healing and maternal obligations. Perhaps being labeled “unclean” for female births was was a blessing to give a new mother more time to allow healing to occur before resuming “marital obligations.” Many men think they can resume sexual activity as soon as the person of uncleanliness is over.

AMEN TO THAT! I can tell you I was glad that I had to wait 6 weeks to begin relations again and even when I got the go ahead I told the nurse “ can we just pretend you said I needed to wait another two weeks 😂”

Hi Mike! Have you shared your biblical view on decreeing & declaring? If so, can you pleeeeease tell me where I can find it & if not can you please address this topic at some point? I just have a hard time understanding why people do it. It makes me uncomfortable & I guess I don’t know how to confront it when people tell me to or talk to me about it. I came out of new age when I got saved a year ago. Quickly got swept into a Christian cult of friends & got myself out of it, then found your KZbin shortly after, while I in a suffering mental state of fear, confusion & demonic attacks. I got out of it & you have seriously helped me SO much with untwisting scripture in my head & I’m just so grateful I finally have a person I can say with confidence that I trust to help teach me. After bouncing through a few church’s, you are the reason I opened myself to the idea of going to a Calvary Chapel & I just want to say how grateful I am to have found a church after all of this. I now have a church family thanks to you helping me gain my trust & confidence in Christ back.

It’s clearing speaking of sin. Not about demons. If a man is in sin. U can say because ur unrepentant ur in judgement. If they repent and turn from theirs sins it’s loosened. God is the judge. With the scriptures as the law.

binding and loosing is about retaining or setting sin free--> [Jhn 20:23 KJV] 23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; [and] whose soever [sins] ye retain, they are retained. its about forgiving and being forgiven of people and in so doing...being forgiven by our heavenly Father--> [Mat 6:14-15 KJV] 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. its why we get together with those we have sinned against and ask forgiveness of them and forgive those that transgress against us... and our Father in heaven will forgive us--> [Mat 18:19 KJV] 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Thank you for this comment. As I was reading it, the power of forgiveness became so clear to me for the first time although I’ve heard it all my life. I remember reading where Jesus healed a lame man and told him that his sins were forgiven; the people became angry because they believed that only God could forgive sins. But God has given us the authority and power to forgive the sins of those who have wronged us. So when we say, I forgive you, we are operating in the same love and authority that Christ had and has given to us. Wow, it’s a powerful thing.

@@A.McCall yes... i think kenneth copeland presented the idea that binding and loosing was about bindinding and loosing devils....(crazy) i remember people at a crazy church that i went to listened to him and thought maybe there might be "hair cutting demons"...really crazy.. yes the keys to heaven are found in forgiveness before we die...because if we (or they)carry this unforgiveness to heaven it will be counted against us (or them)when we all go thru the baptism of fire on the last day-->[1Co 3:13-15 KJV] 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. so its really really good for the Soul to forgive... and be forgiven... Your welcome... God Bless

Why do the verses immediately preceeding the passage of binding and losing always seem to get neglected by so many who teach on what the Author meant by "binding and losing?" Mathew 18:15-17 says: “Now if your brother sins , go and show him his fault, between you and him alone; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed. And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as the Gentile and the tax collector. Matthew 18:15-17 LSB It is so important that we take the Scriptures in their full context and read the etire chapters, books, and yes, we must all as Christians read through the whole Bible! I believe I am stating the obvious here because the Scriptures are very clear and God is not a God of confusion, but could it be that binding and losing has to do with the forgiveness of sins, in regards to the church? We must read the passage in its entire context and stop isolating verses and making them say what the Author did not intend them to say! 😢 We must not think it is mere coincidence that Jesus talks about the forgiveness of sins, and church discipline, (by the mouth of two or three witnesses to win a brother who is in sin) before He speaks on binding and losing. It is not wise to take what Christ says in verse 18 apart from what He meant in verses 15 through 17, about forgiveness of sins, and winning over a sinning brother. Remember, Christ commissioned and established the church and Peter was the rock on which He would build it. The Apostles would go on to perform miracles, healing, raise the dead, and exercise demons! I agree wholeheartedly with Mike that in Matthew 18:18, Jesus is commissioning the Apostles, and, in regards to forgiveness of sins in the church and discipline, the entire church was given the authority to do this! Throughout church history, this has been the church has been commissioned to preach the gospel and forgive repentant sinners in church discipline, and exhort and admonish our brothers and sisters to repent from their sins!
