Something that worked for my picky boy was changing his feeding schedule every one in a while. If he’s refusing food at evening/night for a week, I surprise him with a morning feeding, or a random time feeding. It kicks him back into habit.

My gecko seems to get in a mood once a year where it goes off eating for anywhere from a couple weeks to a month. It is in the middle of it now. It's been a month and has yet to eat but is still active and clear eyed and fat tailed. I offer him crickets and super worms, but oddly he doesn't like waxworms, and he ignores them and goes to the door of the cage.

i run mine through the washing machine, no problems with it yet and have been doing so for about a year. i keep a small bowl of pure calcium powder (no added d3) in the enclosure at all times. i do sprinkle vitamins on feeders in bowls. either calcium with d3 or a multivitamin. i alternate between the 2, 2 feedings with calcium with d3 to 1 feeding with the multivitamin powder. i wouldn't leave the bowl in the enclosure though. i take it out once they are done eating, or just leave it in the enclosure overnight. she has some great videos on feeding and supplementation. 1 was recently if you look at her more recent uploads. best of luck

i wouldn't put the enclosure right in front of the window. a friend of mine lost an iguana that way. i just have mine in my bedroom so the lights are on during the day and it's dark at night, as far as feeding and how much, that really depends on your gecko. the rule of thumb is that you feed them as much as they'll eat in about 15 mins and then remove any that they haven't eaten. I don't follow that myself though. i have 3 geckos that are all different. I bowl feed, hand feed, and let the ones that will hunt, hunt crickets. i have a baby that is 5 months old and around 20 grams, she eats about 7 small crickets a feeding. i have a 2 year old male who is 100 grams and he is pretty picky, he eats about 3 small to medium superworms per feeding. my other female is about a year and a half old and 50 grams and eats about 4 medium crickets a feeding

I just bought a Leopard Gecko today from a reptile store. I found him in the store in a small plastic container. They said he was a rescue and not sure if he will "make it" Don't get me wrong they were giving him meds and trying to fatten him up. I asked to hold him and he crawled straight up on my chest an snuggled so that was it! I bought everything for his tank and brought him home. Taking him to the vet tomorrow and hoping it's not something deadly but even if it is he will be happy and loved instead of alone on a paper towel in a tupperware bowl. I wanted to thank you for all your videos and the info you have provided me. I did research for a month deciding what type of reptile I wanted ( I do own a anole but wanted something a bit larger I could hold) I never expected to get one with special needs but I'm in love with him on day 1. I've named him Jeevit which means survivor in Hindi. :)

I've been feeding my son's gecko a liquid diet (with calcium and a dash of protein powder), because he refuses the usual critters we give him. Probably hasn't eaten solid food for at least 3 weeks. It's good to know they can go months without eating. I hadn't heard that. We also changed his bedding, upon recommendation. We were told the sand we were using may not be good for him.

Thank you so much for the advice! I have a 5 year old girl named Jazzy who seemingly never eats, and though I live in a usually hot area during winter she will almost never eat. This always concerns me, for obvious reasons, and so I came to your channel to find a video that may give me an answer. After seeing temperature, I decided to put her in a warm container with towel soaked in hot water (not to enough to burn, but enough to peak her activity/attention) and she immediately began eating when minutes before she refused the food. I can't express to you how grateful I am for the advice, though I have been a reptile owner all my life Jazzy is the only animal I've ever owned so picky about her feeding environment. I wish she was as easy as my boy L.E.D., he eats under any circumstance. Thank you again for the video, and hopefully I can use this discovery to keep her on a steady schedule during the winter, if I'm lucky maybe she'll eat 3 days a week like L.E.D. I recently bought an adult female, and it's been about 3 weeks since I got her. She used to be a breeder, and was in a breeding set up, but since the move she's been put into a tank set up like my other 5 have. She appears to be the only one not eating. She has brown stuff on her toes, but she also likes stomping around in her water and then her calcium bowl, so I'm pretty sure that's all it is, she won't stay still long enough for me to get the last of it off. I gave her a bath to get rid of it, but it looks like some of it won't come off until her next shed... she was bought with another gecko who's younger and acclimatized just fine, so I'm wondering if it's just that she's older and it's taking her longer to adjust (like people keep telling me), or if there's something more happening here.. :/

she forgot to mention that there is 21st reason that a leo will stop eating. If you've recently redid their enclosure i.e. a complete make over from a non natural looking environment to a more natural looking one they will go off feed but rest assured they'll soon be hungry in 1-2 days. reason I'm saying this is because I recently changed the look of my leo's environment to match what her natural environment looks like.

I had a big debate on Facebook with some guy that was 100% certain that Leo's aren't nocturnal. He also seemed to think that in the wild they lived in sand and thought it was fine to keep geckos on sand...he had no idea about the dangers. He also was certain that they need UV lights...I explained why they don't but he was having none of it, he said Leo's bask in the light! I feel so sorry for his Gecko's :/ He just wouldn't listen.

Is she eating now? Petco's vet may not be the best place to go because some petcos treat their animals terribly and I know my petsmart's vet recommends calcium sand (which is the worst possible substrate). If you leave the insects in the tank, I recommend you don't because they could start to eat the gecko or their poop (giving the gecko parasites).

Got mine from petsmart they actually had carpet but no heating pad. One hide and all the geckos but 1 *the one I bought :3* stays under the carpet and the cage was a bit small but I went to a petco.. omg what I saw should not be spoken of I’m sure one of those geckos were DEAD it has sand and shed on it an OVER SIZED FOOD AND WATER BOWL one hide were they can’t really hide it’s open for people to see them and my friend got a bearded dragon from them THEY SAID IT WAS PERFECTLY OK TO USE SAND *its not* and a week later his bearded dragon died, petco needs legit help

Hayley McGee sand has a high chance of impacting and killing them. Especially calcium sand. I strongly recommend removing it if you use it.

Mylee King it’s common for females to stop eating for months on end while ovulating during breeding season. As long as they aren’t losing weight and aren’t showing any other signs of illness, there’s no need to take them to the vet.

I got both of mine from Petco not knowing how they treat their animals. Both have been healthy thank goodness. We have 2 in my area. 1 seems ok, too many geckos in a tank but they all seem healthy and are kept on reptile carpet. The other (which is newer and seems nicer on the surface) is horrendous! They keep them on sand for starters. But what really drove me over the edge with them was seeing a very sick gecko. I thought it was dead at first. It was starved and had stuck shed on its eyes and feet. Wish I could attach a pic. I brought it to their attention but it looked like it may have been too late. Just made me sick! I stated shopping at a privately owned reptile store after that!

Mealworms can’t be their main diet, they need mainly live crickets or Dubia roaches. It’s normal for new geckos not to eat. What’s the warm side temperature and do you have a digital thermometer (or is it a dial)? Is his tail getting smaller?

I see I've done quite the oops. I just "DIYed" Olli a new slightly bigger tank. So, built it and put him in. BUT before he had been slightly too attached to super worms (which is my bad) then I remembered, the day after he moved in the time changed back. And now he's shedding, in a new place, moody, tired, and attached to super worms. Hopefully things will be back on track within a couple weeks.

I hope are you still commenting on videos, I have recently rescued a 6 month old leopard gecko. She has been fed dried mealworms her whole life. As soon as I received her I gave her enclosure a proper cleaning, and provided two hides one dry one moist. She has a reptile heating pad as well. When I first got her I offered her live mealworms and she was so happy and excited and ate 4. Then she didn’t poop for 3 days. So I put her in some warm water in a small container and she had a bowel movement! I have kept mealworms in her enclosure since then in the evening always and with the proper vitamins and calcium you have suggested. In 10 days she has only had three bowel movements and one of those was the water poop I talked about. What can I do to help her eat more? Am I doing everything correct?

Mealworms are fatty and difficult to digest due to the high amount of chitin in their exoskeleton, making them constipated and even causing impaction. This is why they aren’t healthy for their main diet. You need to try to feed her live crickets or Dubia roaches as a staple diet. Feed every other day at that age. Dust with calcium every other feeding and vitamins every three feedings. Or Repashy Calcium Plus every feeding. What’s the warm side surface temperature and is your thermometer digital or analog?

Ovulation can affect single females. My female, when on her first year of her adult life and first year of breeding, stopped only eating before laying eggs. All the other years she was stopping longer stretches after ovulation. Even now that she is alone for two years, she still does that and starts eating a lot from mid summer onwards.

My gecko is showing symptoms of mbd and I'm so scared and taken aback I've done so much research and tried to give him exactly what was said with the crickets and the reptile vitamin thing and the calcium every feed. I'm so confused i think its parasites from infected mealworms i got from a new pet store but all exotic vets are about 2 hours away

My baby gecko has absolutely no issues but my question is this- he’s a juvenile (less than a year old, he’s like 4-5 months) but he LOVES to eat. He eats 7 crickets, a super worm, AND a wax worm every day. I read that they stop eating when they’re full, but he’s a bottomless pit; and I always feed him the crickets first, then the super worm then the wax worm so that if he gets full, at least he ate the healthy stuff first. Is this healthy for him? I just figured he’s a growing boy and needs what he’s eating, but I’m starting to wonder if that’s true...? I should mention that the bugs are gut loaded- the crickets have a potato skin and an orange slice in their enclosure so I’m pretty sure it’s not that.

My sweet baby has an abscess between her ear and eye and I’m so worried about her. I actually drained it myself with sterile supplies with alcohol and then used peroxide on the wound. I’ve ordered reptaboost and in the meantime have been feeding her mealworm guts (she won’t open her mouth enough to eat the whole worm but she’ll lick the guts off of her nose lol. I’ve also been flushing her eye with saline. Right before she got sick (still don’t know the cause) I spent a lot of money upgrading her tank. I’m so attached to her and am doing everything in my power to get her well.

My male gecko used to eat just fine..a while later he got those bumps under the armpit but still ate.. After that .. I fixed the setup and placed him somewhere not so cold.. After that he completely stopped eating... After about 3 weeks or a month I found out my mom had disconnected the heatmat on the tank so they had been cold for about 3 weeks or so. I fixed that.. And now he started eating but just a little bit.. So then I also found out that my geckos started fighting ..so yup

I have a legitimate question! :) My newly acquired 8 year old male leopard gecko (with beginning stages of MBD) is refusing to eat his food. He ate great the first week I had him, since he was pretty neglected, he was very hungry. Now, a few weeks in, he is refusing food. My theories are that he is finally full for the first time in his life (yay!) and that he hates the new vitamins and minerals, as he has never had those dusted on his food before. He will go to grab his food and once he tastes the powder, he either eats just the one or he spits it out. Is there a vitamin supplement out there that maybe tastes better? Or is it something he will eventually get used to? Maybe I need to dust his food and then rub meal worm insides all over the dusted bugs? Is it maybe just my imagination that he doesn't like the taste and maybe he really is just finally not hungry? thank you!

You could try a different brand. I recommend crickets or Dubia roaches for for the main diet :)

For some reason, my female isn’t eating. She hasn’t eating been for about the past 3 times we’ve gotten crickets/ mealworms. I’ve checked if she was pregnant (she lives with a male) and I haven’t found anything. My other geckos eat perfectly fine. It’s just her that’s not eating. When it comes to size, we get medium crickets and their not big what so ever. My babies eat the medium ones. I just really need help with her

+IhasKittyCat well I got mine from petco and his back leg is damaged. Normally they eat crickets. But I have to feed mine mealworms covered in calci powder. He can't move fast enough to catch them.

help i went to a 1 week holiday vacation, and when i came back my leopard gecko isnt eating. he ate the first cricket i gave him, but the second one he bit it and spat it out. the third one i nudge it to him but he would just stare at it. before holiday i gave him 5 crickets and he ate normally. its summer so its quite hot, i dont think low temperature is the reason he isnt eating:(
