Your lazy thumbnail... Yes I genuinely missed WALL-E and Back To The Future in the 1970s since they didn't exist then

Beneath the Planet of the Apes is one of my favorite follow-ups from that era. As a kid, it used to scare me by thinking some day apes could become smarter than us. And the thought of being hunted like wild game frightened me. I think out of all these, my favorites have always been Logan's Run and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Thanks! These are all good choices. However, when I was a little older, an uncle of mine introduced me to a little sci-fi/porno(lite) spoof named "Flesh Gordon" from about 1974. Silly and campy, but funny overall, it's a good addition to any 50s, 60s, or 70s sci-fi collection. Also Star Wars special effects guy John Dykstra lends his early talents to the film. His name is even in the credits...backwards. Cheers!

I have seen all 3 versions: Vincent Price in "The Last Man On Earth", Charlton Heston "The Omega Man", Will Smith "I Am Legend".

Wizards is awesome. Funny and the final battle of the wizards is something, you will not forget. Oh, and they killed Fritz.

And it's ironic that Mark Hamill voiced one of the characters in it, being that it was released in 1977, the same year as Star Wars, so hardly anyone ever associates him with the movie.

In "Colossus, The Forbin Project". it's not that it wouldn't take "No" for an answer, it was that nobody ever told it "NO!" until the very end of the movie, and it shut itself down.

alot of those are mainstream and very popular and well known ... how about a few other that are really obscure , like : Message from Space , Zardoz , Death Race , Boys From Brazil , Slaughter House 5 , Terminal Man , Galaxy Espress 999 .....

*Idaho Transfer, The Omega Man, Fantastic Planet, Frankenstein the True Story* (!!!) and though it's ACTUALLY 1968, *The Green Slime* feels more like 1970s, and is where Ridley doesn't want you to know that 80% plus of Alien came from

The Andromeda Strain is one of the best Sci-Fi movies ever made. The science of it is so based in reality that it doesn't feel like science fiction while watching it. I wonder if Jurassic Park might have had some inspiration from West World. I know it is a big, controversial thing, but the idea that Soylent Green is made of people is not all that shocking to me. People stranded have been known to eat their friends along the journey to stay alive. Soylent Green wasn't killing people; it just made good use of their remains. Rollerball was fantastic. It didn't really come to any conclusions, and was definitely part of that 1970s pessimism. Brilliant. Capricorn One was a great suspense movie. I suppose the only sci-fi aspect to it is the idea of launching to Mars. The rest of it, on Earth, is suspense reminiscent of Hitchcock. I know I'm in the minority here, but I enjoyed the 1956 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers more than the 1978 version. The suspense was palpable in every scene, but the 78 version built up to it slowly, and the first half was pretty boring.

"Zardoz" was a pure, unadulterated British garbage flick. Even Sir Sean Connery could not save it.

@ nah, Zardoz had a good story, but Connery was very wrong for the part. He had the acting ability of a tree stump.

Fun fact, during the making of THX 1138 and after its release, George Lucas got one comment and one piece of advice, both which he ignored. Comment: "You're right. You can't write a screenplay." Advice: "Don't do anything with robots." Silent Running always got me thinking. Where the devil are the engines on the Valley Forge? Star Crash is "not as polished as Star Wars"? One way to put it. Another way is to say it's so trashy and bad that it's fun to watch.
