Grew up with these tractors in SW Georgia and Louisiana in college. Would definitely like to own one, but my (50) hp utility tractor is doing the job right now (5103) five e series. If I branch out will pay the extra money to start hay enterprise. In addition basic mechanic tractors with out DEF. Great vid. Thanks

@@geraldosteen2357 thank you I appreciate it. The heavy iron is nice but for some small jobs sometimes I'd like to also have a 50hp like yours. Would be nice to have something I can throw on a trailer and haul easily. Thanks for watching I appreciate the comment. 👍

When he is talking about the front axles keep in mind when the 20 series was made before loaders were made or the axle would have been stronger....i had a 1972😮 4320 with a Westendorf loader for 32 years...excellent loader tractor and enough power for a 20ft disc or 500 bu wagon....the 20...30 and 40 series are the reason Deere took over the tractor market

My line is IH and MF. MF is what gave Deere and all the others the 3 point Hitch. I am learning a lot of detail about Deere from You and, I am looking to learn even more. I hauled Deere, out of Waterloo, Iowa, for 16 Years. Some went to Dealers and many went to the Port of Dundalk, Maryland. At the Port, after unloading I reloaded the smaller Tractors made in Europe. I also hauled experimental prototypes to several places where They were tested over a season, documented as to effective workability. The Tractor was then returned to the research and development place in Waterloo. One of the developments that got finalized and, put into general production, was the Nitrogen over Hydraulic front Axle. I learned a lot about Deere during this 16 years. However, I never compared features such as You are doing with Your videos. I hope to follow You even more in the near future. Thank You for this. Fergieman

WOW I bet you could tell some interesting stories. Very cool you got to see some experimental stuff. In my area it is now mostly caseih and Deere. We used to have some Massey but the dealership closed along with support for Massey. It is true Ferguson before the Massey- Ferguson merger did bring us the 3 point hitch. And it's also worth noting Deere wouldn't have been the first with a powershift transmission if Ford would have listened to their own engineer. Although I think other manufacturers at the time had some components of their tractor better than Deere the Deere's of that time seemed to be a better overall package. I appreciate you spending your time to watch my videos and it's enthusiasts like you that make this worth it. I truly appreciate the comment. 😊

4520 also did not have an aftercooler. Also some open station 30/40 series didn’t have tilt or telescoping steering wheels. And man, please get some solder style terminals for your battery cables. Those hurt my eyes.

The big advantage to a dry clutch is the tractor can be started by towing.

Foot throttle was optional. The 30 and 40 series have much better transmission
@machineryd276527 күн бұрын
@@robertmoulton2656 the foot throttle may have been a option but if it was it was a very very rare option. Haven't seen very many at all with a foot throttle. The PS transmission stayed essentially the same with a few small updates but the biggest improvement was the quad range which is a good transmission but would of been fantastic if they would of made the reverse speed slower. Great comment thanks for watching 👍
@robertmoulton265627 күн бұрын
@machineryd2765 for pushing snow and loader work I find often the high-speed reverse is kind of nice. The tractor I have now only does 6.2 mph in reverse and it seems dreadfully slow. I sure can appreciate the battery changes you've made on the tractors it makes really good sense🙂
@machineryd276527 күн бұрын
@@robertmoulton2656 thanks 1 group 31 battery really cuts down on the problems. I could see in many situations how the fast reverse could be a benefit. For me when you are in say b1 or b2 which is a very common gear say brushhogging and you want to back into a corner if you pull directly down to B reverse 1 you were going 5-6mph forward but your reverse speed is now 7-8 mph. So I usually have to make another shift going from b range to a range so I don't slip the clutch or go backwards at a crazy speed. This is the only thing I feel the syncro has on the quad. In the syncro 5th and the reverse down from 5th is about the same speed. Same with 3rd and 3rd reverse. You can idle down to try to match the speed some but not ideal when doing pto work. But having 16 gears in the quad is a big upgrade if you don't reverse frequently. My loader tractor is a 3020 powershift and I really enjoy it for a loader tractor. You can be a little tougher and shift quicker with a powershift and not worry about missing the gear like a syncro with some age on it. Thanks for the comment. I enjoy hearing others opinions.
