Fish ponds are GREAT for gathering fish you need for specific recipes, such as for seafoam pudding. Quality doesn't matter, when you're making a recipe, so the normal quality fish you get from the pond are perfect and reliable. I put a sign on each fish pond, and fish every day it says 10 fish, unless I'm looking for cactus seeds and solar essence, which require 10 fish in the pond, for some reason. But I can buy cactus seeds at the Oasis, and solar essence is easy to get in the mines, level 51 - 79, by killing ghosts. So, yeah, I'm not raising sunfish on my farm, just for that, when I can use that same pond to raise stingrays, for cinder shards, with only 7 fish in the pond, or dragon teeth and batteries at 9 fish. Fish ponds are a GREAT way to use the non-sprinkler area on the Beach Farm, or those grassy zones on the Forage and Wilderness farms. Unlike sheds, they don't block the view of things above them, so you can place them almost anywhere, while still having easy view of everything you need to see. I hate missing crops, because the shed roof was in the day.

Hi, Lily! Regarding the third tip, about leaving tree stumps in the early game: tree stumps can still spawn seeds in the nearby soil, so this is also a good way to get more tree seeds for field snacks or later replanting (or leave them to grow where they are).

Exactly... I always leave stumps from trees on my farm when I am at the beginning of the game... The seeds are very useful for field snack and/or for selling/planting new trees :) On the other hand, it is not good to leave stumps from trees out of your farm, cause then the tree doesn´t grow again until you remove the stump...

when doing the Qi fruit quest, grow more than 500 and ship only 500 but during the day before they ship that night, sell your overage to pierre at his store. Then the next day, go back and buy the Qi fruit at his store, it should be the last item in the list. Be careful, if you sell less than 20, Evelyn may buy them all before you can buy them. Then after you buy them, turn them to seeds and start planting for the next time you get the quest.

one extra little tip. do not underestimate the crab pots. they are a fantastic source of trash, and therefore whatever can come from trash. like coal, refined quartz, wood, and even torches!

You don't need to wait the exclamation warning to catch the fish from fish ponds. Just use the rod and pull it out immediately, and the fish will be caught.

A very good trick I use to catch the difficult fish is maxing out ur fishing stat, drinking trout soup, and using the cork bobber. Your fishing bar is MASSIVE so you can easily catch the hard to catch fish.

Yeah, you can't just say, "Well, I'm done. Off to bed!" at 3 in the afternoon, like some people do. But, if you're out of energy, use the time for foraging or greeting villagers. Friendshipping takes no energy, and it is SO USEFUL. Those recipes can be game changing, and the gifts they give? One time, Emily saved me, by sending me cloth for the Community Center JUST IN TIME, when I was trying to complete it in the first year. I had lucked out on getting a truffle early at the Traveling Merchant, but couldn't afford the sheep or rabbit, in time for them to make the drop. The one year challenge is challenging.

Day 1: Go foraging but leave behind dandelions. Then head to the beach and spend the entire day clay farming and put it in the bin. You will get between 2,000 and 3,000 gold so you can buy the backpack without selling your fish. Day 2: Fish at beach until Willy opens his store, buy the training rod then head up to the mountain lake and fish with the training rod. Since you already have the backpack you can spend the entire day farming for fishing do rather than fish for cash. Day 3: by now you should be or close to being level 3 fishing. Go fish at the beach until Willy opens the store and spell enough fish to get the fibreglass rod and a ton of bait. If you’re good at fishing also buy the trout soup and go fish in the forest river for catfish, if you’re not good at fishing don’t buy the trout soup and fish at mountain lake. DO NOT SELL YOUR FISH Day 4: if it is raining and you’re a good fisher go for the catfish if not then go back to the mountain lake. Highly suggest you spend the first part of the day collecting 50 wood. You will probably hit level 5 fishing today so wait until after you get the fishing perk for 25% value on fish before you sell any.

@@Jack-kx5rf it's the daffodils that provide no energy, not dandelions. Forage resets after bedtime on Saturday, so you can easily collect the daffodils on Day 6 if you want, and complete yiur first community center bundle.

Tip: Animals seem to (by what I've seen) be inside at about 7pm. Also, don't worry about fences. Your animals will return before dark.

Fences are important, if you are at the beginning of the game and you have to manually milk it (shear it) and pet it + if you have pigs and you don´t want to run around all your farm to search for truffles...

@@CrystallineSoll Honestly out of those only the pigs are an issue, anything else can be avoided simply by closing the door at night after the animals are all inside and only opening the door once you have finished milking/shearing them.

I'm not sure but I do not think one can immediately fill a brand new fish pond with 10 fishes, it has to grow to that level, I think I tried it and it would not let me. Another tip but one that cost real world money: I just upgraded my puny 20.7 inches HD monitor to a 38 inches UHD monitor (it was on sale). I can now see a lot more terrain around me at normal zoom then I could at maximum zoom out before. It's great for foraging (the entire bus stop is visible for example as is the entire backwoods) or being able to check for bubble spot farther away when fishing.

@@demonicmerma1d22 You are right and I remember trying a mod that permitted zooming to less than 75% but I did not use it long for some reason that I can't remember, it might have made everything too small or interfered with another mod. People should really try that before buying a new monitor if the only reason is a better Stardew experience.

A tip I just discovered about some random thing: Last night when I was playing, Willy had his incident of crabs running loose and going all over the inside of his store. Gus said that he was having a special on crab cakes for a few days. I always just assumed it was a joke. Nope! Not a joke. He really will sell crab cakes at the saloon, and he sells an INFINITE NUMBER. I had a lot of money at the time, so I bought 120 crab cakes. I don't have the recipe yet. I forget when you get the recipe. So I can't make them at home. You can eat crab cakes and get a speed boost that will last all day long, in addition to a coffee speed boost.

Do not buy the backpack as soon as you can. Your first priority should be to time your harvests (all the potatoes twice) so you have as much money saved up as possible before the egg hunt, where you can buy strawberries. Then buy as many strawberries as can until your wallet is dry. They are insanely profitable and you can only get them during the egg hunt. If you buy the backpack before the egg hunt, then you'll loose out on 20 strawberry seeds. That's minimum 4800g extra in the first season of the game if you just wait a little longer to upgrade. With an early boost you can begin snowballing your profets way faster and get all your other upgrades way sooner than if you went for the backpack first.

this is something ive seen a lot of people do, why do you carry all of your tools with you when fishing / exploring the mines? fishing just needs a rod and mining a weapon / pickaxe so anything else is just hogging space. they will bring a bunch of stuff with them and then say they dont have enough room for what theyre trying to get but refuse to only bring the needed tools/weapons.

Don't plant PROFITABLE crops too late in the season. HOWEVER, if you want to save yourself a lot of time on Summer 1 or Fall 1 (It doesn't work for Winter 1), you can plant CHEAP crops too late in the season. Don't bother to water them. Then, at the change of season, just like berry plants, they will die, and you can easily scythe them down. It makes planting at the first of the season SO MUCH EASIER, since you waste no time or energy hoeing that soil. They'll even be watered, if you already have sprinklers down before bed on the last day of the previous season. Sprinklers don't care if the crops in the tilled soil are alive. They just care if there is tilled soil, at all. If the timing is right, though, you can get the same results but with a profit, by planting hay from summer to fall. It takes 4 days to grow, normally, and less time with Agriculturist and speed gro, so know your own farm, OK? But if you plant it so that it will come to harvest either on the last day of summer, or the first of fall, you can simply scythe it down on Fall 1, and get the wheat and hay! You can sell the wheat directly to Pierre, when you go to buy seeds, or make beer with it, for maximum profit. It takes 29 hours to make beer, though, so don't plant to sell the beer your first day. However, if you spend all your money on Fall 1 buying seeds, but put the wheat in the kegs on Fall 1, then by the end of the day Fall 2, you should have some beer to sell, to refill your purse well before Friday, when you need money for the Traveling Merchant. It's nicer than waiting for your first crop to come to fruition in fall, just AFTER the Traveling Merchant has come and gone. Wheat. It's not just for flour. In fact, if you plant it on the 26th of the month, and can only scythe it on Fall 2, that gives you much more time on Fall 1 to do other first-day-of-the-season things, such as clearing off all the new undergrowth, and finding that season's forage for the community center. Wheat is 10 g at Pierre's and only 12 at Joja, so you can almost always afford to buy it and use it as a place-holder in your farm. Did crows eat your valuable crop, and now your schedule is thrown off, and you want your crop harvest to match, because of tidiness. Want to make sure that plot stays fertilized? Use wheat as a place-holder. Toss a wheat on that plot, and when you harvest the surrounding crops, harvest the wheat, too, and you're back to being tidy. It's such a cheap crop that you don't mind delaying the harvest by a day or two, while waiting for the surrounding crops to grow, and you can't harvest it accidentally, without using the scythe, so amaranth would be the only "dangerous" plant to plant near it, if you are using it as a placeholder, to keep the plot open for a specific day. And since it's so cheap, if really are obsessed with keeping the harvest of that zone perfectly timed, it's no big deal to just use your pickaxe to destroy the wheat, if it's not ready for harvest when you want access to that plot. Also, if you have over-extended your garden, and you have plots ready for planting, but have no scarecrow coverage, you can plant either seasonal wild seeds (require no scarecrow) or wheat, which is just so cheap that you don't mind feeding the crows now and then, until you can get your proper scarecrow. For example, let's say you were doing a challenge, where you only fished during the spring, or even spring and summer. Now it's Fall, and you want to plant some valuable crops, but don't have a scarecrow. Plant Wheat, with some Speed-Gro, and when you harvest it, replant more wheat. You won't be able to build the scarecrow until the day AFTER you level up, so the second wheat will ensure you lose NO valuable crops, at all. Only the cheap ones. That still gives you three whole weeks (remember, you used Speed-Gro!) for growing the valuable crops with a scarecrow protection, so you lose none, at all. Plus, you'd be surprised at the profit you can get from wheat, even selling it directly. Even at the base price and buying the seeds at JojaMart, because you dorked around too long, and Pierre's closed at 5, it is more than DOUBLE the price of the initial investment. It's not a lot in terms of g, but it's a lot in terms of percentage, and it was HANDY, and helped you PROTECT those plants! With two rounds of wheat, it is enough to ABSOLUTELY protect one round of pumpkins. For the small ONE NIGHT chance of crows, it's enough to protect a Sweet Gem Berry, or TWO rounds of pumpkins. So, wheat and speed-gro means maximum yields of regular quality (with a small chance of silver or gold) crops. For pumpkins, if you put them into a preserves jar, the quality makes no difference. You want quantity, which means protecting them is a priority. Wheat. It's awesome. I first learned about the "plant something cheap on the last day" trick, and they said, "use the wild seeds! They're free!" No, they're not free. You use up forage to make them, and forage and the forage seeds both sell for MUCH more than the cost of parsnips, wheat, or even radishes, especially if you are using high quality forage to make the seeds. However, from winter to spring, the ONLY option is the winter seeds. It's costly, but it saves SO MUCH time and effort that even with iridium seeds, I'll use enough to get that head start on spring planting. Time is money, after all. And so is energy. Although, you can eat to regain energy. You cannot regain time. So, I suppose it depends on just how much time you'll save, based on just how big your garden will be, whether or not to use the winter forage to save you time on Spring 1. Note: If you don't mind the mess, you can leave the wilted plants, and only scythe down just enough to plant your current crop, so you can focus on the most expensive seeds you can afford, then fish, mine, or forage to get more money for more seeds, and expand as you go, with your plots already hoed for you. They'll even be watered, if you have sprinklers down!

Once you get the fiber seeds recipe, you can plant those on the 21st and scythe up a bunch of fiber on the 1st. Iirc you need a stockpile of mixed seeds for this, though, so you may only be able to cover a certain amount of crop area this way.

Yeah, always go for Strawberry Seeds. Once you have a few crops, only sell the gold and silver strawberries, keep the normal ones until you can get seeds. My typical farm has 744 growing spaces, and by the next spring, I try to aim for at least half that. Usually by the second-year egg festival, I have enough to buy all 744.
