Best tip is “being realistic”. When I was younger I loved to shop for my “fantasy self”. Which meant a wardrobe full of clubbing dresses and sky high heels even though I was working in an office 6 days a week😂

Shopping Thrift stores in affluent areas of town can bring in some nice, high-quality pieces that would usually be out of budget reach for me. I also have found that wearing the same pair of pants/jeans for a few days in a row and then washing them keeps ALL the clothes in my closet fresher. I keep a hook on the back of my door with pieces I have worn only a few hours. They are not dirty, but not fresh. When I get dressed I look at these pieces first and work with one of them if possible. Then wash.

Well I will be rewatching this video as so many great ideas... 👍 even at 70yrs I am learning and changing as I do not wish to fade into nothing as I have seen so many people do when reaching a certain age ...the old "well I'm this and that now and can't be bothered anymore" as far as I'm concerned plenty of time for that when I'm dead which I hope won't be for a long time. Hullo, Jess! I loved your video. I am 1.74 m tall and wear all of these classic staples. My beautiful wool and cashmere camel coat by Max Mara, I bought in Florence 29 years ago. I have looked after it well and it is still as good as new. I have to compliment you on your hair.....the darker look makes you shed about 15 years........the highlighter blonde coloring is pretty but not nearly as stunning. Loving these style tips Jess! One thing I've started doing in my closet is that when I purchase a new garment, something else has to go. That way I always have the same number of hangers. Great tips! I stick to the 3 colour rule... 2 colours that dominate and then a splash of a 3rd colour in shoes or handbag or belt. It works for me as I'm 5ft 2 with a petite frame

Another fantastic post! You've really helped me to re-imagine my overall style (something that has gotten a bit more challenging as I've moved into my 50s). Trying to keep it fresh in a Canadian winter is a challenge, too (but I'm certain it's possible). :-) I'm a big fan of breathable, natural fibres so all these links to quality clothiers (with some budget choices thrown in) is also super helpful. Yes Alison, don't worry what the size label says, just the ones out you don't like the look of! Maybe if you struggle with dresses consider sizing up and finding a good tailor to take in the rest? I know it's not helpful for you but local to me we have this amazing alterations place where it costs about £10 to have an item taken in. And they do an incredible job! So it's definitely worth searching for a good one, they're definitely out there x

@@FashionStyleEdit Hey Jess, your too funny 😂…I have bought a couple of good hand held steamers in the past for a quick out the door steam which suit the purpose I suppose but our steamer at the shop broke and they sent us the “Quest” 42320 upright garment and steamer 1800 Watts , when I opened it I thought god that won’t last us long with amount of deliveries we have but 7 months later with heavy use I was convinced it stands up, not sure for long but for the few times I use it a week with knits, silk blouses and especially dresses for work I bought it off Amazon £59.99, don’t love the look of it as it’s red but seriously a great little steamer for the price you can’t go wrong, it’s amine field out there and can’t justify paying hundreds when they really all do the same thing, give it a go 😜💕 P.S I personally don’t use the hanger part of it , it’s small , very light to move around and small to fit in the corner of your room out of sight 🤪

A good tip from the steamer queen 😂😂😂, never point the steamer head down on a garment as it can leak water , allways upright and stroke the fabric up and down, allways turn off your steamer before you fill the tank with water , there you go girls , happy steaming 😊

Fit is simply the most essential. The piece can be made of tinfoil but if it fits you perfectly it looks intentional vs trashy. All excellent tips. Supervisor kitteh agrees :)

All these tips are helpful reminder to feel an look your best even when you have days when you are not in the mood, These tips if you make as a habit it will become automatic, in that when you don't feel at your best that inate institution will find you have put something together unconsciously and may lift your mood. I have those moments and my mood will lift because I feel put together posture changes and I feel more myself your point keep it simple is so right that has been my mantra for years less is definitely more its all about balance but what suits you what makes you the wearer happy and balance for example at work a colleague was commenting on another colleagues length of skirt 1.the young lady in question was fully covered in a long sleeve turtle neck tights boots the. She was In balance she walked with confidence and looked great . I made a comment to who thought the skirt length was two short that it's the wearer's preference to what length she can wear also she balance the look with a slightly oversized jacket my point to this lengthy comment it is all down to personal preference and knowing what you like, what makes you walk tall and just lifts your mood. All I can add to whoever may read this comment just trust in yourself your instinct what feels great that just lifts your mood. Agree with all your helpful tips. I like my clothing to be able to be dressed up and down. Ok, so do I really need the Sam Edelman off white combat boots I’ve been wanting and are now on sale? They’re cool and I can style them with items in my wardrobe, but do I need them?…no. I love lots of styles from classic tailored, 70’s vibes and romantic, but I love combining something edgy into some of my outfits when I’m in the mood. 🤔 Shoes do help with the versatility of clothing. 😆

I can still remember those pieces, and still kick myself I didn't spoil myself. Life is short and if they're within budget why should you not treat yourself:) x

@@FashionStyleEdit that’s sweet of you. They’re the Garret boots in ivory. I’m still unsure if I’ll get them - difficult to buy boots when it’s 40 degrees everyday. It’s been a very hot summer!! But they’re only $150 AUD on Shopbop. I need to be sure because it will cost $50 to return them. Perhaps black is a safer option, but I seem to be obsessed with all things ivory. I ended up getting a pair of Reebok Club 85 trainers in chalk to see if they fulfill my needs for now. Did I mention I’m supposed to be on a no buy this month. 😬😂

Hi Deb, I do sometimes wear it cross body and I don’t think it’s too bulky but I probably wear it on my shoulder more as that’s how I seem to wear bags the most:) If you do wear it cross body I would just pull it round to the front more so it looks more intentional like a feature if you know what I mean x
