Hey everyone I am gonna say this as nice as possible…. I have been reading and removing comments about the quality of food and where it was bought. There are people who struggle everyday in the ability to feed their families, and for some to come on here and bash and shame this video is sad. How about we be kind humans and encourage others to feed their families by whatever means they can. It makes you sound hoity toity, pretentious and condescending. There’s no shame in the game if a belly is full and a family is happy. Let others be. Stop shaming.

As a black man who grew up in the inner city, your video actually brought a tear to my eye- so many people have suffered these last 4 years ( I know people who are working that are living in their cars just to get by) You took what can barely cover a big mac combos meal and fed a family. I'm gonna donate this year to my local food bank and I wrote down your video info as instructions. Thank you

Hi I’m a single father of 3 and this really brought happiness and joy back into me at first I was just gonna buy a value meal from McDonald’s so it doesn’t seem so bad to the kids but after seeing this video you gave me ideas on how to improvise. It hurts the soul when you can join in the festive because of money but you’re showing us we still can even if we can’t afford a whole turkey and all the other things. When I was a teenager my stepdad threw me out of the house. So I got an efficiency cabin, had a job as a busgirl, an old car, and went to school. One of the things I cooked for dinner was white rice cooked in any kind of canned broth. Once it was cooked, I melted a slice of cheese over it. And that worked with ramen noodles, too. Sometimes I still cook these things to remind myself where I came from. Also it still tastes good. ❤

I am 50. When i was in elementary school they made us "cowboy hats". We all loved it, my kids grew up loving it. It is nothing but fried bologna (fried till the sides flip up from the center a little) with an ice cream scooper full of instant mashed potatos right in the center so it looks like a hat. Add catsup and you have a few dollar hot meal the kids love.

This is what call ghetto/hood cooking, and I love it. Do your thing sis. I grew up the same way in Brooklyn, my mom took care of us (3 boys), the best she can and dinners were special. She could make a stick to ya ribs meal on a budget and we ate every bit. This brings back memories. Keep doing your thing and dont worry about what many of these 'judgey' clowns wanna say while im sure they themselves grew up just as poor as we did but acting like theyre upper crust.

I don’t know why anyone would complain about the quality of the food. That brand of mashed potatoes is sold everywhere and I use them all the time. The green beans as well and they are also delicious. The stuffing is the same as you would get as a known brand, probably made at the same facility. I would eat this dinner and be thankful to have it. Some people have never had to struggle and that’s the problem. I was a single mom of three kids and sometimes had to go to the church food pantry. You learn to make something out of nothing sometimes and are thankful to get it. This meal looks delicious and thank you for sharing your ideas.

Pretty much every thing she used was a name brand, or a generic that is just as high quality as any typical store brand. Personally I would have made a tweak or two, and found a way to include a can of cranberry sauce, but she did a really great job. And the best part of all, was that not only was this meal really cheap, it was also VERY accessible for someone who has limited access to kitchen gear/fridge space, as well as being very accessible to someone who has no kitchen skills or is disabled. Personally, I am one hell of a good cook, but I am also currently disabled and on chemo. This entire meal of recipes is at a level that could be prepared by someone with very low stamina, or even easily delgated to a helper/child of ~8+yo while supervising and directing from a seat at the table if absolutely needed (or they just wanted to help). This is also a good menu for someone who has to work over the holiday, or can't make it home to be with family and doesn't want a lot of leftovers to deal with. The quantities shown would easily make 4-6 hearty-sized meals to take to work.

Funny thing is I've tried to give food away that is "Sell By" and no one will take it. I feed $15.00 frozen steaks to the racoons & had to throw hundreds of dollars worth of food in the garbage, I just couldn't eat al of it. All those dates mean is the brand say's it "might" lose it's taste or strength. Canned chicken lasts for years. Pantry foods. When you buy flour put it immediately into your freezer to kill off, and bugs. The government allows for a % of bugs ect in foods.

The world is getting harder and harder to live in, especially for those who are in lower class or straight up poor/homeless. For $20, you made a fantastic dinner that could feed an entire family. I grew up in a dirt poor family (that fortunately has been blessed with financial security since then), and this video is perfection. We would have to strategize how specific dollars got spent at the dollar store to make sure everybody was fed. There was NO extra money for wiggle room. If people criticize this, it's because they have never been anywhere close to struggling just to pay for their next meal.

When I was little back in the 1950s my dad was a carpenter. When it rained he couldn’t work. We went through many days when all we had was beans and rice or cornbread to eat. If we had meat , my dad ate it. He had a hard physical job. My dad made a garden and we had chickens. We didn’t starve but we didn’t waste food either. I admire this lady for showing us how to feed a family on a strict budget. Our representatives and congressmen should watch h this show to see how a great majority of our citizens have to make a dollar stretch from paycheck to paycheck. I love you, Brooke. I am 44 years old and I am a bartender, my wife is a realtor. We follow all your recipes. We have the means sometimes and at times we don’t. I humble myself and I also spread the word on these ideas. I comment here and there but sending you all the love from tulsa, ok. Love you and the boys all day. God blesssssss ❤

I'm a 70 year old grandma living on social security. I buy my groceries at Dollar Tree often. It's a life saver when you're on a fixed income! I try to stick to well known brands. Otherwise, I read the labels carefully. Enjoy your holidays!
