A idea that would be good that you might of missed is make meru a "wingly". after entering the forest of the wingly (full party) meru has the ability to use magic without using an item have more MP while in Dragon form and she uses her wings more liberally. You only few times when the plot needs it. Also it helps so you don't forget she is a wingly. Oh and regenerative MP for all characters but have a different stat for it.

Thank you for being brutally honest. The addition system is the bride between turn based and action rpgs.... And it is a BEAUTIFUL bridge that we should just awe at. Don't change a thing about it. I love turn based but sometimes you want that little bit of extra interaction. Anyone who thinks it should be different can piss off. There are enough rpgs from both genres to get off to. Let us have this. It is ours.

The only thing I'd add to the combat, if I were directing a remake, is; - right stick controls camera - left stick controls characters within the battlefield -Dpad to select actions -Right/Left Bumpers to swap characters(press to switch who of the 3 main you control, hold to swap your controlled main with a sidelines character FFX style) -Right/Left Triggers to swap additions mid battle, except Shana whose left trigger would aim and right trigger would shoot. This is assuming that character turns are based on Stamina and you need to switch between them while they recover. (The farther along in the addition you succeed, the more stamina drain). I'd also double down on the whole "each dragoon is elemental' concept, by again taking a cue from FFX and making every enemy type require a specific character to do real damage to. Making character swapping necessary.

Some quality of life improvements could include: 1) Show us the turn order: This game has the same type of "turn system" that FFX has, but FFX lets you see the up-coming turn order and let's you plan ahead. 2) More item storage: 32 items is rather low, how about, we give each character a total limit of 32 items, BUT, during battle, they can only use the items that they are carrying. It's just an idea. 3) An elemental opposite for electricity: I think this one's obvious 4) Interactive Dragoon spells: Don't know why this wasn't in the base game to be honest 5) Let us switch party members mid battle: Need I say more? And that's all I've got that wasn't already in the video.

I feel that allowing Lloyd to enter the party might as well impact the story. With the knowledge that disc 4 was rushed, I argue that Lloyd was intended to be a party member to begin with. This game is RIFE with anime out the wazzu, i'll just count the ways each character is literally an anime character. Dart doesn't have crazy spikey blonde hair, a hachimaki, lost his hometown to a great unspeakable evil, watched seles burn down by the enemy, both parents died in a village death, has a loner attitude, lone wolf mentality, makes friends with a completely calm, neat haired, spear wielding polar opposite of himself in lavitz, wear armor on one arm not bother, no helmet, no lower armor, he's the hot blooded protagonist and the fire elemental to match his hot headedness, he IS an anime protagonist. oh and his hair is literally refered to on t.v. tropes as SHONEN HAIR. Lavitz slambert isn't a dynasty warriors character, he's a calm, cool headed lancer to dart's hot headed eagerness, much like kenshin and sanosuke only opposite, he even uses a spear opposite dart's sword, these are qualities rife within anime, his element wind is deligated to calm collective types all the time, heroicly sacrifices himself like a lancer would, get it, he's the lancer and he uses a spear, ha, also wind helps fire burn, showing a deeper more aesthetic connection to dart and lavitz friendship, that's not anime though i just thought it was interesting to point out, also lavits is fiercely loyal to albert and the kingdom, very samurai mentality of him something seen a lot in anime, he's also met being chained up by the enemy, not uncommon for a character to be picked up at an enemy base in anime, record of lodoss war has parn meeting the thief in a dungeon, lufy meets zoro chained to a pole, etc. shauna isn't the childhood friend, she's literally the walking embodiment of "the love interest who's been friends with the MC from childhood who starts out only seeing her as a sister but later learns to see her as a women" an old anime trope. She's the girl with the defense mechanism super power, soemthing seen a lot in anime, also she's a holy maiden, like a shrine maiden, using purification magic and all that jazz, also she and everyone else have ANIME MAGICAL GIRL/GUY TRANSFORMATIONS, she's literally a healing magical girl who HENSHINS, infact their all sentai characters, so anime. Rose isn't every dark haired, pale skinned anime warrior lady you've ever seen, she's not jun fudo, or faye valentine or anything like that, she's the atoner, atoning for her sins of the past like Casshern, vegeta, tien, she uses dark powers but is a good person like, lelouche of code geas or the claymores from claymore, or the devilman or in this case devilman lady, she's the mentor much like roshi to goku and especially piccolo to gohan considering their both harsh individuals at times, for the sake of brevety i'll do one note comparisons for everyone else, not like anyone will rtead this anyway probably XD Haschel isn't the kung fu karate master in anime, he's not roshi, or an amalgamation of mightiest desciple kenichi with his hachimaki (headband), using almost dragon ball like techniques Meru who is LITERALLY just a magical girl, even had brightly colored hair, big eyes and a wallops dudes with a hammer and she's the child herom er, heroine in this case. also she is literally a bubbly little anime girl. Kongol is just a Fist of The North Star character, he's a big brute of a man with almost no armor on and a big axe, he's literally pippin from berserk but less fat more muscle, but with an axe, his race is based on native americans but usually in some anime when they do that they tend to maker them either the shamanistic type, or the big barbarian brutes who can wreck stuff type like the natives in Guin Saga, also you best him to befriend him a cliche popular in anime, Almost every villain in this game is some kind of anime archetype that i'm not gonna go into, but yes their is LOADS of anime in this game, wether you choose to acknowledge or see it is up to you and if you only experience with anime is AFTER the year 2000, go back to the eghties and look at some real anime, might change your mind, just a friendly suggestion, sounds like all you've had experience with is cutsey magical, freindship is magic stuff, and shonene or something.

Great list agree on most every point. There is one idea i had to possibly improve the addition system without changing the core mechanics (but let me be clear, I love the addition system, and if they don't change it I would still be ecstatic). Basically you have three groups with a maximum of three members to each group that participate in battle. Thus all available party member can participate in battle at the same time. You can swap around member of each group in between battles, and each groups health, attack, defense, magic, etc is the equal to the sum of all the members in their group. When attacking you perform the selected addition of the designated leader of the group. A successfully performed addition has the other member of the group aid with an additional hit on the final strike, and all members of the group gain one addition point when the leader performs a successful addition. This way you maintain the core mechanics of what made the addition system so good, without penalizing players for experimenting with multiple characters. You could also play on the elemental advantages and disadvantages of each character, and allowing swapping characters around during battle, but neither are completely necessary. Honestly as long as it doesn't become a real time action system like the FF7 remake I would be happy.

This is without a doubt one of my favorite games of all time. I agree with or at least see the reasoning behind most of your points. However... the game is already riddled with anime. The brooding spikey-haired protagonist with vengeance on the mind? It's not just a jrpg thing. It's also anime. The mysterious mentor with a dark and melodramatic past that has way too much guilt? Anime. The tiny girl that wears next to nothing and pulls a hammer twice her size from literally nowhere? You can't get more anime than that. The old man that is the last true master of *the best* martial art? Haschel confirmed his anime roots when he shattered the giant rock. And most importantly, the entire idea and mechanic of the Dragoon transformation is an enormous nod to magical girl anime. Especially Shana basically IS Sailor Moon but with a good twist. I wouldn't be surprised if the show in general was a huge inspiration to the devs though. There are plenty more but those are the biggest that come from the top of my head. The tone doesn't rely on them ~too~ heavily and I think that kinda makes that overall point stand. If you ever decide to start watching anime I don't guarantee you'll like it, I don't care for Mexican soaps either, but you'll definitely see Dragoon everywhere in it.

While I agree with most of the points of TGX in this video too, I think he has a very prejudiced and misinformed stance regarding anime. I completely get his dislike towards those awful Tropes he mentions in the video, which unfortunately are pretty common in mainstream anime and give a bad reputation to the whole medium, but there are some pretty good series that I think he would enjoy and he is missing them. I would recommend him to at least take a look to Berserk (the 1997 anime, since the most recent anime adaptations seem to be terrible) and, if he likes Sci Fi too, Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Both lack most of the infamous Tropes and fanservice he talks about and are very well written and mature.
@Sextus704 жыл бұрын
@@kylecampbell565 My impression is that he really doesn't mind at all about anime aesthetics (as Flunked Lunch mentioned, LoD has a lot of those, as well as other games he likes) as long as the story is not riddled with silly and cringey Tropes common in some mainstream anime genre/demographics such as Shounen (there are some quite good and mature series of this genre he might enjoy though), Shoujo and, especially, ecchi and other erotic or sexual genres. I think Lost Odyssey could be a good match for him. It has a combat system, story and a cast of adult characters similar to those of LoD. What he really should avoid like a plague are franchises such as Shin Megami Tensei Persona and Legend of Heroes (not to be confused with Legend of the Galactic Heroes. The difference between them is like that of day and night lol), which suffer exactly from the anime Tropes he hates so much. Even myself can't stand those elements in some games of those series too.
@melbu63114 жыл бұрын
What i Think TGX meant with "no anime" is both in looks (graphics: with LoD should be realistic, after all apart from the hairstyle, everything else was realistic in the game, pretty much like Final Fantasy, and as you can see modern FF like even FF7 remake have realistic graphics) and tone/acting (no unnecessary huge screams and endless running towards an enemy to kill him, pretty much like all anime do). You know, that type of anime stuff. PS. I love anime i watched a lot of anime myself. But LoD isn't and shouldn't be that. It has a few anime things going on, like what you mentioned. But those are little things. The game overall has a serious, not over the top, approach to acting and story. In this regard it should basically follow what Square is doing with FF 7 Remake.
@Sextus704 жыл бұрын
@@kylecampbell565 I haven't played that game, so I can't tell for sure if he would like it or not. However, based on the introductory parts of it I have watched, I'm afraid the overall tone at the start of the game could be a turn-off for him. Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks too "average Shounen" like at a first glance.
@Sextus704 жыл бұрын
@@melbu6311 The thing is that not all anime are as how you and TGX describe it. Some anime actually have detailed, realistic drawing styles (just like that of LoD) and a more mature tone in their storytelling. Most of those belong to a category called Seinen, which is targeted towards late teens and adults. Unfortunately, most people get the wrong idea that everything the medium has to offer are over the top, cheesy and pervy works of fiction because that kind of anime (Shounen, Shoujo, Ecchi, Hentai, etc) is the most popular one, but nothing could be farther from the truth. I enjoy some of that kind of cheesy and over the top series (such as Jojo Bizarre Adventures), but sometimes I find annoying how other kind of manga/anime is overlooked.

20. Physical and Magical Barriers are in the forms of Material Shield and Magic Shield. Regular battle stays. 19. For Dragoon magic spells, a fast-forward option is needed. Also, have the option to Dragoon Out to give the magic users more powerful options. 18. Agreed on voice actors. 17. For offline characters, have them gain EXP equal to benched characters. 16. How about using their MAT as their "physical attack" instead of their own ATK? 15. Fast travel... they do have horses, so why won't that be an option? At least for back-tracking. 14. Mini-games should grant better rewards to even do them. 13. Status ailments have them affect bosses, but have them the ability to recover them along with 10% heal. 12. Along with Lavitz and Shana. 08. Well, it's best to replace some items, like the useless SP gaining if taken damage items. 07. Side-quest... Eh. I think it's fine as it is... 06. Agreed on soundtracks. No. Have them all available as a music option during the title screen, if you choose to listen to music instead of playing game. 05. World-building... continue from Side-quest... I would agree. Not too much though. 04. Hmm... expand the unexpandable... I have thought of a sort-of time slip option. Similar to Radiant Historia from the DS. 03. Other than Dart being replaceable... I think it's fine. 02. Yes. There's yet to be an actual translation from the Japanese version. Though the PAL version has... differences, but not many. 01. FUCK YES! KEEP THE ADDITIONS!!! ...though Lavitz's Rod Typhoon and Haschel's Hex Hammer counters continue to annoy me... -upgrade Kongol to have bigger MDF, as the localization version (non-Japanese versions) pumped up the attack item spells (except Detonate Rock) by 50% and Psyche Bombs (both versions) pumped up by 400%; also have him keep the counter attack ability, like an Addition during his opponent's turn when they normal attack him -I suppose we can try 64 items, as it's a mere rumor of that Pocketstation thing and nothing more; also as I said from 08, some arms can be upgraded while some shouldn't even be there... but keep the Bracelets. We just can't be around without them. -how about a double arrow shot for Shana/Miranda for the implied Addition? The 2nd hit can also be more accurate if you target right. Otherwise, it's the same as the 1st shot. -more Miranda story. I don't hate her like most people, but she does need more expansion to further her development. -Cape available before the 1st Hellena Boss. This little suggestion can go a long way for Shana. -more visible Addition squares. I mean, I do sometimes get distracted by my fighter's movements during the Additions. How can I not look at them?!

I agree with most of your points except for 1: Adding more playable characters. Aside from Lloyd, if they were to add more characters to the party I think the original cast would loose it's luster, even if they were in the party for a short period, because you are already focusing on so many people's fighting styles already. I think adding more people with more additions would really tire the player out. I personally would love the game to instead expand on a few of it's side characters. Another way a bow user can have additions is for the successful hits be you prepping the bow and preparing for the shot and completing it means the enemy take damage but the shot can have effects such as the target cannot attack for 3 turns. Trick shots with status effects are used in rpgs and a trick shot that does damage to hinder mobility can be done in real life with a bow. The actions the hero's take for additions occur with all weapons in real life, including a bow. If they went this route they could just have maybe only 3 additions and if you are good at additions, the effect of the how ones wouldn't stack as it would become broken but using it multiple times with success would net damage but the amount of turns before the opponent can attack wouldn't change. The effect is more than fair on regular enemies and on a boss, like all other effects could be something they are immune to and if they are not immune it could be possible for the effect to not work on a boss but I feel it should be 100% for a regular enemy. This addition could have 3 timed boxes. A weaker first addition could be one timed box and delivers a special arrow with a chance to cause poison. They could have one with a chance of arm blocking. I also think it would be cool to have one pin the opponent down and if it works then the following would be the character charging the enemy to slice with a dagger. Yes, they are now users, but many bow users in many cultures kept a dagger on them and them and if your opponent staggers from a. Successful arrow then that followup makes sense. The concept of no additions on a bow is beyond retarded IMO bc it shows no origionality. The point is not supposed to be, you can swing a weapon multiple times but only get one shot.. umm no, people shoot many arrows in combat in real life, so why not in a game? As far as cool effects, trick arrows and trick shots and techniques with the bow are awesome. I want a regular attack too tho. I always hated late game when I had additions I needed ultimate to max because I could not see the swirling of the colors on the screen well enough to time my additions correctly. This made it difficult for me as I barely did damage sometimes on a character due to this. I should be able to do a normal attack for a fair amount of damage and not be forced to do additions and the additions should be treated more as a technique or special attack of sorts and I should select to do them and not be forced to. I also hate having to equip and addition. I should have access to any I have learned during a fight.

I love your ideas I hope one day they remaster this game my ideas are the following: 1) Have a queue window - knowing when your character or enemies turn will come is essential for planning 2) selecting Additions in battle- I love the addition system it should remain as it is however it would be better if you could select your addition anytime during battle 3) addition various effect- apart from addition dealing damage and increasing SP they should also have various effects like lowering enemies stats, delaying their turns or affecting them with bad status 4) Give Shana/Miranda some additions- this has to be one of the biggest problems with the game, Shana/Miranda were made useless because they had no additions 5) more secondary command- other than defending and using items, each character should have a unique command in battle, example Dart is the fire dragon, his command should be “fire up” which increases his attack in battle, Lavits/Albert being noble knights should have a “Taunt” command that draws enemy attacks towards them, Shana being a healer should have a “heal” command that cures character some health and so on 6) carry more items- 35 items was way too limited, you should be able to carry all type of items but about 10 of the same item 7) give thunder opposite element- In this game thunder magic has no real strength or weakness hence making Hacheal dragoon mode not useful, they could either give Thunder an opposite element or make the element in a Rock Paper Scissors effect, such as Fire>Earth>Wind>Thunder> water>fire 8) counter attacking while defending- it wasn’t fair that enemies could interrupt your additions and damage you while attacking, while in defence stands of an enemy physically attacks the player while defending just like additions by pressing the circle ⭕️ button the right time you could counter attack enemies and receive minimum damage 9) Double and triple magic- imagine entering dragoon mode and characters can combine their magic abilities such as Dart combines his fire magic with Lavits Wind magic and perform a fire tornado or something

Customizable armor sets would be super cool, if each possibility wound up looking like the same look the character had to begin with - just with different details. Like, Dart would still have a headband, armor on only 1 arm, and jeans. Still red. But maybe the headband would have a metal plate on it, or have the tied knot on the side instead of the back. Maybe he's wearing different boots, or his jeans have a different hem. Maybe the armor plates overlay differently. Or Rose, as many changes as the player could give her, would still always have only 1 leg armored, and always be dark blue. But any color swapping, or completely new (different style) armors, wouldn't be good. It would make these iconic characters unrecognizable. It may be different armor, but it needs to look the same from 30 feet away. Yknow?

I also agree with he last point. The addition system should be untouched. I do still feel there should be an option to select them in battle without having to equip then beforehand. I also feel there should be a way to do a regular attack without an addition being performed but this could be a simple primary and secondary attack. You equip outside if battle if you want the primary to be additions or a regular weapon attack. Then if you choose primary for additions the gameplay for additions is the same as it is in the old game but you can choose to select a secondary attack during battle meaning for the turn you do a regular attack that hits balanced and is not weaker because it is a single hit but is not as powerful as a fully successful addition. Then if you choose for additions to be secondary then your main attack is normal hit you can select to perform an addition and it would do your currently equipped addition. The one that is equipped of course can he changed in a menu both in and out of the game. I don't have a problem with the additions in the game, but I am not good at the timing of certain additions. Almost all of them I can do on command but there are a few for more than one character that I seldom get right and I do feel it hinders me to want to equip them late game for me to master but then hit 100 or less damage bc I mess the addition timing up. In those situations I should be able to switch to a normal attack if I choose or to change my addition in battle to one I can perform so that I am not punished for having seizures and swirling blue and white making me dizzy and being hard to follow on certain faster speed additions.

Yes! A bow user like Shana can have a combined of close range and long range addition. Like she runs in and physically hits the opponent with the bow then as she pulls back shoot an arrow while Miranda can have a crossbow? Or she can just shoot multiple times.

I agree. I just disagree with number 7. I don't think we should ask for more sidequests for the sake of sidequests only. What i mean is that LoD showed before everyone else how you could make a relatively linear JRPG and still make it wide and with huge longevity (and thus making it be interesting for the whole journey because of the journey alone, instead other JRPGs fill themselves with lots of sidequests, many that are boring, just for increasing longevity). LoD showed that you could make a linear and still wide JRPG. Pretty much what Cory used to define his recent God of War : "Wide Linear". So yeah, i'd like more sidequests in LoD, but only those that actually add on the game and its backstory (like the ones with the old Dragoons, those are good examples of sidequests). What i mean is i don't want the game to be filled with fetch quests. As for temporary companions, Shirley could be another great one to add in. :) Maybe even Guaraha, but compared to Dragoons he's really weak.

Maybe instead of separate additions for dragoon forms they instead add to the characters original adding a bit of differculty to the addition in exchange for a bonus of elemental damage depending on how good you did. Archery additions would help. Maybe combination of athletic manuverse with shots fired. Making guest party members, plus having all characters visable in the background, while giving the player the ability to switch members, and additions out mid battle. Maybe? Ng+ GIVE ME THE GOD DAMN DIVINE DRAGOON INSTEAD OF RED EYED DRAGOON. Side quests that maybe add to characters friendships, and bonds. For instance side quests that you can take with specific characters interacting with each other. I would say instead of keeping the originals remaster the originals, and maybe add to them. I would say add to the addition system that enhances it, not takes away, or removes from it.

I agree with all your points, but I would like to add one of my own. Expand the Inventory! While there is plenty of space for weapons and armor, the space for Items useable in battle (healing pots, revives, status ailment removers, attack items, etc...) is extremely limited with only 32 slots. This is made worse by the fact that nothing stacks and as you progress through the game you will get repeatable use items that you want to keep, like the Magic Sig Stone and the Psychedelic Bomb, which limits the capacity even further. Part of my personal play-style when playing any game is to load up on healing items regularly so I'm never without, but in Legend of Dragoon this means I have to compromise by not having as many status healers or attack items, and it's really annoying and distressing for me to not have the options I want. Not to mention there are multiple times where you go through two consecutive areas without getting the chance to restock between them. The fix to the problem is two-fold for me. The bag space itself needs to be expanded dramatically, and the items should stack to save space. Even if it's only a stack of 10 items each, it still helps because that's 9 slots you can use for something else.

I would love for a prequel set in the time of the dragon campaign with Rose as the main character. This would be a perfect staging ground for a remake/remaster of The Legend Of Dragoon. One thing I would add to your list is the visuals of weapons changing when a character equips a new weapon. It was something that was already being done with JRPGs at the time and I think would be a nice addition to a remake of the game

I agree about the character development and I think to make Miranda more relatable there should be a cutscenes with voice acting if her telling the story of her childhood abuse and they should change it and have her being comforted by another party member and expand upon that to listen the atmosphere a little. This should have some follow up dialogue and cut scenes after this point in the game to show Miranda become less of that stuck up person and really learn to trust her team. With side quest additions, some of this could be fleshed out as each if the characters could get 3 to 5 side quest that they are central tot he story of that gives them character development, hers could connect to or take place after Ulara, which to me serves as a turning point for her character. I think she is a much better character than how she is perceived and a lot of this comes down to how they deliver her and the lack of character development later on in Disc 4.

I would like to see an expansion of the "counter" idea. I would love to see more context clues for a enemy who is about to counter. And giving the playable characters the chance to counter. Specifically Kongol because he was know to do that whenever you would fight him. I would love to see that as a way to making him more unique of a character.

the addition system is iconic to this game and if nothing changed it would be great, however it is not perfect. the few acceptable changes i can think of would be a way to change them mid combat at the expense of a turn, and/or an option for a random one to be used every attack for a damage/sp boost and immunity to counters. its all about options as long as it does not infringe on the original.
@white0thunderwhite0thunder714 жыл бұрын
What I think would help with the game is make the Dragoon forms more of a necessity and easy to use in combat. The only real benefit for the forms is they give you a power boost for attacks and a defense boost when you are able to use them for more than one turn but that's about it. The magic you can use is less powerful than the items, especially if you had a turbo controller, and unless you wasted precious carrying space on magic recovery items you could only use your most powerful spells once or maybe twice before you ran out of magic. Also when you unlocked the most powerful additions for your characters and maxed them out they were FAR more powerful than the Dragoon attacks rendering the best positive for the Dragoons useless. Finally there are three boss fights that by themselves render the Dragoon forms useless because the forms are either weakened the moment you transform or LOYD WILL INSTAKILL YOU AS SOON AS YOU FINISH ATTACKING!!! There are only two accessories in the game that stop instakill attacks and you only have access to one by the time you fight Loyd, but to be fair if you put that item on Dart and transform just him, Loyd will only instakill attack Dart giving you a max of five turns where Loyd isn't damaging any of your characters. If you're gonna give me a Power Ranger form or a Super Saiyan transformation then make it so the form has more benefits than just looking cool while you attack.

This is by far one of my favorite nostalgic ps1 games of all time. One point I agree with is that Shana and Miranda needs something more for an addition. I feel like they are boring characters to combat with but I always look forward to the White Silver Dragon magic attack. And I completely agree with the fact that they should not get rid of the addition systems. Meru is the most fun and entertaining character to master additions with.

Maybe when receiving an individual attack, defending should have button press timing like in additions. In short same as when attacking, but you are pressing to defend from as many hits as possible and possibly change color for a chance to counter attack too like enemies do.

Things I'd like for a remake/remaster in no particular order of preference: A really well done, proper translation of the Japanese text. Totally agree with you on that one. (You could have an option to include the original for the nostalgia fans.) The choice between redone English voice acting with better voice actors (with a better translation of the original Japanese dialogue) or the original Japanese voice acting with subtitles. (Again, you could include the original English as cheesy nostalgia for fans). Remastered soundtrack music from the original master tapes as well as a newly recorded version played on the actual instruments that the electronic sounds are emulating: eg. a real orchestra, accordion, xylophone, steel drum, piano, etc. and the option to choose between them. That would be awesome. Check out the orchestration of the Final Fantasy VII remake soundtrack. Sounds amazing. Have a hard mode & regular mode with the Japanese levels of the game for the hard mode, as well as a Game+ mode where you can play the hard mode with your characters maxed out with their end of game equipment, stats, and dragon souls (looking at you Divine Dragon Dart!... and give Kongol the same number of dragoon spells as everyone else... you could have Zeig and Rose along as Red-Eye and Darkness Dragoons?) and have a healed Coolon for fast travel. I'd love to re-fight all those boss battles! Make all characters swappable so you are not forced to have Dart in the party all the time, maybe even the option to swap in different characters during combat if someone is KOed. Or even be able to fight bosses with all 7 characters (once you get them). Include MooGuru Dabas - "Dabas' Underground Adventure" dungeon beneath his shop from the Japanese PocketStation, remade as a simple mini-game or completely updated to match the rest of the game as a full new area, as well as his Magic Shiny Bag item to expand your inventory slots to hold more items. I flipflop between giving Shana/Miranda additions or not as it's nice to have a character with a simple one shot ability, though you could make theirs similar to the archer guy in the Arena in Lohan where if you hit 5 key spots on monsters it can cause higher damage and the timed presses of for where each shot is placed. I like your idea of fighting the spirits of the other vassal dragons from the original Dragoons. The Violet dragon is seen in the basement of the Black Castle and looks pretty mangled. Maybe we can put the poor thing out of its misery in a mercy killing battle and later fight its spirit on Mayfil? We fight Rose's vassal dragon Micheal on the Moon but it would be cool if we had a pre-view fight with his spirit in Mayfil too. We could also fight the spirits of Zeig, Shirley, and Belzac's vassal dragons? (I assume Feyrbrand and Regole were the original Dragoon's vassal dragons as Rose knew and named them.) I guess White-Silver spirit could just heal you and wouldn't really be a battle, kinda like your encounter with Shirley. One small comment about "over-sexualized"... Rose's dragoon magics are very.... lets just say she has a lot of energy coming out of her V. (Astral Drain and Demon's Gate... woah.) The Japanese version of Demon's Gate even has red drops instead of black ones to make it just that much more blatant... Scary. Maybe tone that down a bit for the remake. Oh, and fix the Lenus fight bug so you can use Dragoon mode against her without freezing the game.

How to make laggen of dragoon better in the remake. : *Do more enemies - not the same enemies but different colours. *make the your characters do more damage/ hits. Example every hit you will do damage. *make stronger enemies and harder i found the game really easy. * give the dragoons more specail attacks and maybe add the use of limit beaks with low up. *make the dragons look more like dragons not like fucken aeroplanes *i agree with the fast travel and maybe add an open world map. *Add an MP bar an the use if magic instead of throwable items. *Add more secrets weapons/ secrets bosses that give you goodies. *Make the game with voice dialoges like modern games. *Revice the experience give by the enemies it is almost impossible to fully level you characters. Over all , that is my list, I would keep the same story it was great.

Here are my ideas of what to improve for the Legend of Dragoon ps5 remake. 1. Let the players choose their additions during combat instead of changing each addition in the menu 2. Show the weapons of each characters like new swords, rapiers, spears, bows, gloves, hammers and axes 3. Show the hp of each enemy and boss during combat 4. Add a fast travel system so players can go to certain areas like cities or dungeons 5. Use fully voice acted moments in cutscenes 6. Show the enemies in each location instead of a random encounter when the arrow turns red 7. No limit in terms of items like potions and magic items 8. New game plus 9. Update the graphics 10. Fix the script in terms of dialogue 11. Keep the addition system 12. Have more uses of each button during combat like circle, x, triangle and square when using additions 13. I completely agree that the additions are the perfect combo between interactive gameplay and a TBRPG's slower pace and more in-depth strategy, and should only be improved and expanded upon but never changed. They're a good chunk of the unique appeal of the game. I would love for there to be character specific dragoon additions instead of that stupid freaking wheel, though I wouldn't mind just having them auto-complete since going dragoon lets me take a break from the stress of constantly having to stay on my toes during a boss fight. An adjustable addition system might be in order, but don't you dare just remove them from the game. Maybe give an option to slow them down and/or maybe make the hit boxes bigger. This would be even better if you could adjust addition difficulty for each character individually. I still find Albert's last two additions too hard to complete with any consistency after over 20 playthroughs. This is because I admittedly have the reflexes of a geriatric snail, but it would be nice to slow him back down to Lavitz speed for players who are new and/or veteran noobs like me. Other LoDders I know have a hard time with Haschel and Meru's wonky timing despite being able to complete Albert's like a piece of cake, so I'm sure they would appreciate being able to make some difficulty adjustments too. And for the true madfolk out there, bring able to speed up the additions might present an interesting challenge.
@tafm18034 жыл бұрын
I also think that MP feels like too scarce a resource, and basic combat could use a little spice, so here are my suggestions. Give the players an option for both physical and magical standard attacks. The magical standard attacks hit all enemies with the elemental damage of the character at around 25% of their M-Atk stat (would have to be adjusted so the ladies aren't too op with their ridiculous speed), and regenerate some MP. You might need to make the mp pools bigger and the spells proportionally more costly to give magic additions room to breathe in how much MP you gain per completed portion of the combo, which wouldn't be difficult (just make each level of dragoon give you 10X MP cap and make d-magic 10X more expensive so each portion gives you more than decimal points of MP). Magic is also a minigame like additions, either exactly like them or slightly changed. In this case, I would make both d-magic and d-additions auto-complete since memorizing three addition systems would be a bit much. I would also add a shortened animation option for both d-magic and d-additions into the menu (like the option that already exists for dragoon transformations). Finally, in this case guard would stay the same instead of branching as you suggested, also to keep the system from becoming too complex. Alternately, have no magic system, add character specific d-additions, and split guard into two. One that halves physical damage, blocks physical effects (anything that a body purifier can cure plus petrification), and heals you for 10%. The other that halves magical damage, blocks magical effects (anything that a mind purifier can cure), and gives you + MP (either 25% or a fixed rate of 10?).

Yeah your right the reason why it died out was because it was produced late in 1999 and Final fantasy 7 was out in 1997 and made its mark in the rpg genre and then ff8 came In North America LOD came in 2000 and 2001 in Europe and the ps2 was out so people were looking for ps2 and The LOD didn’t sell a lot in japan like the west maybe that’s why it died out

I love the list and agree with your points, but Bluepoint DID in fact rebuild Shadow of Colossus from the ground up. Having played it myself, I can tell you that it’s a fantastic product that stayed true to the original. The OST was left completely untouched as far as composition goes that I can tell by ear. They really did impress me with the remake, so I’m more likely to trust them than many others with LoD. Not saying it’ll get remade by them, but the inquiry made into the game gave me a scant amount of hope.

@jesseallen31094 жыл бұрын
I assume if they do that it'll be like how Lost Oddyssey did it with their watered down addition system. Their system was a perfect timed R2 press when blocking meant a perfect block with a free counter attack that did some level of damage (forgot the exact amount). And on an attack the perfectly timed R2 press meant a super powerful (i believe 2.5X damage) critical hit. For those who didn't like it/couldn't handle it they offered an auto-success option but it lowered the critical to be 1.75x damage, while a perfect block didn't have the counter attack under auto. basically it meant easier game play in exchange for longer battles. Aa you're missing that little bit of extra damage from no counters and you attacks are doing less damage entirely, but you're also not opening yourself up for failure with perfect block (which could add .25x damage you take) or having your character utterly wiff (as the failure to even hit the R2 button raised your miss chance up to about 75% likelihood.)

I don't get the "I don't like anime" thing, because anime isn't a genre. Anime simply means japanese animation. it has the same range of genres as any other sort of movie or TV show, and one anime can be a complete 180 to another. Cowboy Bebop is not the same thing as Naruto. Grave of the Fireflies is not the same thing as Highschool of the Dead. It's like saying "I don't like movies because *insert list of action movie tropes*". those are just the tropes of a certain genre and not some sort of universal constant of the medium. If your only idea of anime is the trashy generic stuff then I understand why you'd be turned off, but it really is worth it diving in a bit to find some of the real gems. There is a reason why creators like Miyazaki get acclaim even from foreign film buffs who have probably never seen another anime in their life. I'm not trying to tell you that you're not allowed to dislike anime or have your own opinions on it, it's just that from what you said about your reasons for the dislike, it comes more from just not really being aware that anime is more than just the lowbrow generic junk food stuff you named. it's an entire medium with the full gamut of genres. If you enjoyed LoD's story, characters etc, then I can pretty much gurantee you there are anime you'd enjoy that have the same or better setting, characters and plot.

Personally I would like a sequel. Main reason being, the story has wrapped up. Start new. Would like a remaster but that can always come later. Honestly I would like them to do with TLOD as they did with FFVII remake. I like the turn base system it has but I feel like it could and should evolve like the FF series did. Tbh I would've preferred if TLOD took the place of FF. Mainly because. Imagine turning into a dragoon and flying around and fighting and blowing shit up like in the cinematics. That would be a triple A title for sure. I do like the active turn base system, but I would like a button to dodge an attack not just your character blindly staring at the enemy as he slashes you and as you stand motionless. Oh, and maybe the sequel could be about dragons coming back to stop the god from destroying the world or something of that nature.

I agree with most but the dragoon bit the original game demonstrates that you can switch out stones between any characters showing that dragoons were not unique to the person using it the uniqueness came from what dragon produced the stone... so unless there is a dragon that has several diffrent forms this option would not be canon at all.

Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 is a strange "remake". Basically the only difference is the graphics, otherwise it's the exact same game (+ a bunch of useless collectibles to unlock a small new room with an overpowered weapon. cool.), down to the original code running in the background. I want a LOD remake like crazy, but I'm 95% sure they'd change some critical stuff to make it appeal to a larger market and/or remove locations because remaking these environments, with modern graphics expected of an AAA game, while keeping the same art style as the original would be too time consuming and expensive (look at how long it took squarenix to finally remake FFVII, and they can't even do it in a single game). So, I want this remake as much as I dread it. I've already been immensely disappointed with the RE2 remake, way too different from the original for my taste, I don't need the same done to one of my favorite JRPGs.

New game plus: so hear me out because this would be... weird. The story would be the same BUT you could add playable dragon campaign segments that would be harder, kinda like FF8 flashbacks. More options during battles. 1- Magic options or unique abilities (not just additions/throw items) 2- More additions 3- Unique additions effect (give me a reason to switch addition during a fight vs certain enemy instead of sticking with the Highest dmg/sp one) 4- Ability to change addition during combat without skipping your turn 5-More Dragoon magics/additions (Again it goes back to my more options statement) This game has little to no options even late game. I mean seriously, only 4 magic options ??? it's a joke 6-More responsive dragoon addition (the roulette). While addition makes the battles interactive, the battles options are lackluster. You repeat your additions over and over or throw items.. that's pretty much it. You have a game with a good soundtrack, good story, good characters ... but the game lacks some meat (battles). I love the game, but I hate to see so much wasted potential.

As someone who also loves LoD, I agree with everything on your list except your disparaging remarks about the incorporation of anime or JRPG troupes in this game. I agree that the characters should not be overly sexualized in this game as they are in other anime or JRPGs but this game could benefit from some more stylized and sharpened storytelling akin to some of the more critically acclaimed anime (read: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) without losing the core story of LoD. Just a thought. Thank you for sharing this video and I hope we get a remake one day!

The addition system does need changes. I want that little reticle to be customizable so when I'm in Kashua Glacier I can actually tell where the square is because I changed its color to red so it isn't blending in with the fucking background. Or give it its own little black window when you begin one so that problem is never there in the first place, and so I don't have to feel like it's much harder to do when the enemy has a very active idle animation. It's unique but just as broken as every other aspect of the game.

I don't agree with having more playable characters though. We already have an enormous party that the game isn't built to handle, we don't really need to make that problem even worse.

Tbh I didnt realize how weak shana was. Tbh she was ALWAYS on my team, late game I found miranda to be really op. One arrow charged up like 3 or 4 dragoon levels, op healing and attacks.

Not to mention I felt that dart and shana connection that i wanted them to fight side by side, (also made her absence more impactful) My 3rd character is normally rose or laviss

The thing that's so infuriating about Shana/Miranda not having additions is that there ARE animations in the game for a Bow user in the game! In the tournament in Chapter 1, Dart fights that Bow User that cheats with poison. His animations could have been EASILY re-purposed for Shana/Miranda.

I've heard the reason was that there was no way to program an enemy counter attack that made sense if Shana/Miranda had additions, which is a weak excuse.

I feel like you just brought up anime to rant about it. The supposed worries you mentioned would require a different story, very different characters, and different character designs. At that point you might as well be worried that a remake would be an entirely different game. Except for the sexualization for no reason, we've already got plenty of that. What with Shana's tiny shorts, Rose's miniskirt being so short she might as well just be wearing an oversized shirt, and Meru pretty much running around in her underwear.

I personally would have liked them to have kept Shana around for the better part of the late game. But I feel like Lloyd could have been the perfect person to take over in that capacity at that time. Miranda's involvement just happens so late into the game, her personality doesn't entirely help, but I don't find an interest in playing as her after her replacing Shana. It's just too late and she doesn't have that development for me to get behind her character. Think Lloyd could make for a good replacement in that capacity going forward, we might lose out of having the White Dragoon Spirit for a bit maybe at least until the final fight anyway (unless Lloyd wants to take over that role which would be pretty ironic, but I still like having the White Dragoon Spirit as a possibility for Shana), but after Shana was removed Lloyd would have been the perfect way to go, he was interesting, developed and the flip from one side or the other made perfect sense. As it is now Lloyd doesn't really do much of anything late game except get knocked around and rush in at the last moment, and Miranda comes around too late to draw in much emotion impact and interest. Honestly is have prefered to have Shana the entire way through, but if I had to choose a replacement Lloyd would have been pretty fitting.

Its needs more access to dragoon abilities. In game flight and magical power uses to solve puzzles. Meru is singly ... Natural magic user n natural flight capabilities. We need this in game.

Perfectly stated man! Keep The Additions!!! Or else it’s just another bs game following trendies who never appreciated the original. I was against anything “different “....period. Then I saw your list lol. Perfect. You are spot on with EVERYTHING! I was at first thinking it only needed and I mean only needed just better graphics like 2020 style but keeping the art the exact same, but your list definitely is in complete full agreement with me and I’m sure, other “real and true” fans. Keep the music the same no matter what, maybe minor effect sounds would b ok as well. Right on man! Signing my name to the remake petition after I clean myself up from realizing there are fans pushing an actual petition!

ig you still believe being remastered... damn if it's as good as the OC Remix of it.. I'd be all over this game and getting a ps5 for that ALONE.

I'd love a remake if not a remaster. As far as a sequel..I'd prefer a dragon campaign prequel!

I agree, DO NOT go anime with it. I would also hope they don't go the Final Fantasy cutesy way either. Make it a more realistic Fantasy look. Like the style that Paragon went with. (Dead game I know, but the graphical style was amazing)

I have to agree with the discussion point you bring up about not wanting to have the game play with sexualization. Either it's a game where you explore that content (which I would not like at all), or it's a high adventure fantasy story! If we do have the sexualization (aka very little clothing and busty women, underdressed men), it'd be my preference that we can accessorize in a way consistent with our personal views. It's not so out of the way to ask that we have changeable apparel, extra points if the accessories have affects on character stats!

Very well done video dude, I couldn't have said it better myself. You even brought up my 2nd favorite rpg, Final Fantasy 12. AND you get bonus points for wearing a bad ass Gojira shirt. Keep up the good work bro. I hope to see more LoD content soon 🤘
