Hello from Canada! Love your videos. I am fortunate to have a fantastic studio in my city. My piercer and studio would check all those boxes. She, and the studio, makes me comfortable and it is my one stop shop for all my work and jewelry. I got my first lobe done when I was near 50. Since then, I have gotten more and my wife and daughter have all gone there. Now my son is talking about it. If they had treated me poorly when I went in for my first piercing, that wasn't a big sale, they would have forfeited the potential to gain goodwill and the future sales. I appreciate them very much.

Went to a piercer because my lip had completely swallowed the back of the stud. This wasn’t a piercing that she did, but she was more than willing to look at it for me. She did a few nicks with a piercing needle, and admitted that it might need a stitch, and she wasn’t comfortable going any further. I appreciated that. Had to end up going to the hospital to get it out, but once it’s all healed up, more than willing to go to her to get it redone. Thank you, Nadia

I've been in the same situation a few times. It's hard to give up but it's important to know when it needs medical attention. Regardless of who did the piercing, I would always want to save it.
@alyssaparsons83642 жыл бұрын
That’s why I went to a piercer first, I was hoping I wouldn’t have to let it go as it was the other side of my lip for snake bites. What happened was the disc of the stud felt like it was cutting my lip, so I switched it to a circular barbell briefly to let it calm down and heal. But the circular barbell was causing an irritation bump on the inside, and for some reason I couldn’t find the right size one, and I had one in that was too small, hence why my lip swallowed it. The piercing was only a month or 2 old, but my lips tend to swell a lot more than normal. Either way, would love to get it repierced by her, and am waiting to see if said shop is going to take an apprentice when she goes on maternity leave, I would love to become an apprentice 😊

I would suggest leaving the jewelry alone. Yu really only want to downsize but you don't want to change the style of the jewelry until it is well healed.

Took my sister with me to get my septum done today. I asked the piercer to try to pierce it as fast as possible, he did. He was nice, spoke to my sister when she asked questions, wiped my tears when they popped out from the piercing in my septum. It's still sore of course, got it about 4.5 hours ago. Though I wish my double helix would stop being a tad sore. There's no infection, swelling, redness, etc, just sore to touch and it's coming up on week 7. My labret is coming up on week 9 (hoping I can change the jewelry myself soon), and my 4th ear holes ... the right side doesn't hurt and no soreness, and i can lie on it. My left one feels sore. Not swollen or infected, just sore. My aunt asked me if it's so painful why do I keep doing it to myself. Told her, I wanted it, so I got it.

You are welcome. Next time you are piercer ask them why they do things the way they do. I think most of them are unaware and need a poke in the belly to do what they should have been doing all along. A lot of this comes down to who they apprenticed under and they figure since they did it that way, there is no reason to do better.

I already knew that I have a great piercer, but it’s good to hear it from another professional that my piercer is just as good as I think they are. 😁 Out of curiosity, what do you think about shops that won’t put in jewelry that’s not purchased from their shop? I suppose it’s an issue of quality control and wanting to be absolutely sure about the source of the jewelry to remove any possibility of a liability, but I wanted to get your opinion on it. Thanks!
@BodyPiercingTattooing5 жыл бұрын
I completely understand why some studios have that policy and there have been cases where the jewelry was incorrect or visibly so bad, that I refused to put it in someone. The thing is no studio can stock every style, size, and design on the planet. Even if they focus just on the "good jewelry". Special orders can in some cases take 3 months to order mainly because of slower manufactures and the studio doesn't want to pay the shipping on just one piece. Usually, I will put just about anything in a piercing if it is the correct size and there are no visible defects or issues. However, I will make sure the client knows what may cause issues.

As a new piercer in Australia, watching your videos makes me realise how little Australian piercer actually care 😔 I have been learning so much from your videos and implement some of them while I'm at work. Unfortunately my boss will never want to change the jewellery we use or stop using piercing guns, I'm locked into a contract for 2 years so I can't do anything. I hate using the guns but every time I bring it up she goes on about how they are fine and she's meant to be a piercer "for the last 21 years" 🤯

I'm glad you are finding the videos helpful. I'm sorry to hear you are in that situation. I'm guessing you're not the first person that has tried to get her to stop using the ear piercing devices. It's been standard knowledge in the piercing industry since the 80s. Im guessing that she sees it as a profit issue or that she is going to lose business. Maybe pointing out the fact that I charge $110 a pair for ear lobes with Titanium labret studs. Yes she may do slightly less but the increased profit and less issues, will make up for it. Plus the general public is becoming increasingly more educated. I've seen a huge increase in clients wanting lobe piercings done with a needle because they have seen and heard about all the horror stories.

Sorry I missed your reply. No American piercers I know do not reuse needles. I'm unsure why they would. I spend more on gloves and gauze than I do on needles. There are some tools like forceps, taper pins, hemostats, etc... That are decontaminated, cleaned, sterilized and reused. But not needles, they go straight from the client to the biohazard container.

So I got my septum pierced about 10 days ago, By a piercer I have been going to for over 10 years he has done 17 piercings on me including a dermal anchor and I trusted him my septum ring which by the way he pierced and convinced me when I was concerned and voiced my concerns, that it was OK and it was just fine to pierce the septum with a clicker. I knew it sounded strange when I heard it but I trust him and he’s been piercing for a long time so I figured certain way he knows what he’s doing. So I said fine we picked the jewelry together I thought the jewelry might be a little small due to swelling, He convinced me that Septums don’t swell that much very often and that it should be fine the jewelry has fallen out three times and has come unhinged four times, the first two times he helped me put it back in. The last time I had to put it back in which was traumatic because I had never done it before and it was swelling I’m surprise it clicked closed. The last time the shop was open for 25 more minutes I told him I could be there in five minutes and he told me to just leave it out overnight and come in when they opened in the morning which is 11 AM. And tried to convince me that if I left it out all night , And into part of the morning that it would not be closed I didn’t believe it so I struggled to get it back in I had to go to another piercing shop and the piercer wasn’t there the apprentice was there outside. She told me off the books obviously a trick onto how to get it to close if it was already through the hole and that was to use the bottom part of the jewelry and the top part of the cartilage words pierce through and push until I heard it clicked closed. It’s been a mess and he knows it was like the most important piercing to me my family hates it in general and I wanted something centered straight and that would heal easily we talked about it for weeks before I got it done and now I’m having all sorts of problems with the jewelry coming out
@BodyPiercingTattooing2 жыл бұрын
Yeah a clicker is not the correct choice for a fresh piercing. The fact that it keeps unlocking put the quality of the jewelry in question. Go in and demand they put in a cbr or a circular barbell until the piercing is healed.
@IcebulletZ4 жыл бұрын
My piercer charges a flat $5 to change as many pieces as you want. They're upfront with it. If they're changing it out for a bigger bar or whatnot no charge, same as if you're buying the jewelry there. The biggest issue I found with my piercer is she won't really reject doing a piercing. She'll say if it won't look good or will likely reject but if you still want it she'll do it.
@BodyPiercingTattooing4 жыл бұрын
I still don't understand the point of charging to change jewelry. Yes, it's a service but it's like a company charging for tech support. I always have had the policy that I'm to educate and give my opinion and let the client make the decision. However, it is a collaborate process, and there are a number of piercings that I will flat out refuse to do because of their track record and how they look. I think all piercers struggle with saying no. First off there is the loss of income but also making the client angry or they maybe under pressure from whoever owns the studio to do piercings they know are a bad idea. Many owners are often not piercers or even tattoo artists. They see the studio as a retail business only and things like refusing service even when it's the right thing to do, is bad for business.

That really depends on the market, the studio's overheard, the skill and experience of the piercer, the market, whether they are single uses or reprocess their tools and the quality of the jewelry. For example, you could get a nostril pierced in my studio with a certified Bio-compatible titanium threadless post with a bezel gem top for $75. However, if I was located in Chicago it would likely be closer to $100 because my overhead would be a great deal more.

You should be getting both. It's just plain laziness that a piercer doesn't give you a care sheet and take a few minutes to go over how to take care of the piercing. If you consider the state of mind that clients are usually in at the end of the piercing experience, having a written version of the care instructions may become a much needed resource in the near future.
