As of right now I'm actually in the negative. I need enough to pay for 2 full tanks of gas to break even. I'm also 2 months behind on the car payment and 1 month behind on rent. I don't know if there's too many drivers, lack of rides, or both. I've tried everything. I tried accepting every single ride, accepting only worthwhile rides, and even accepting only the best rides. I'm fairly new to this (300 rides) and the one heads up I can give new drivers is that people are disgusting. I have cleaned my car more times in the last 2 months than I have in the 5 years I've owned the car. I have found used diapers, snot rags, boogers etc in the seat pouches of the car. People get in the car with mud and dog poop on their shoes and like to wipe their shoes off on your mats. Get a small electric power washer for your home so when you need to, you can give the car a quick wash or pull out your mats and wash them real quick

I’ve been driving for about 6 years off and on, for some reason almost nobody wants to give tips anymore. It’s pretty disappointing when drivers pay for so much of what goes into, well…. driving a car. Lyft and Uber seem to want to include “tips” into the numbers for what drivers earn which allows them to keep the base pay somewhat lower. Tip your drivers folks, if you have no complaints tip your drivers!

Then there is road construction! What all of this means, is with all of the above, there is more gas/battery used, abuse on the tires and oils. Nothing a driver to do can prevent or avoid this. My tip would be not to drive during the slow months due to all the oversaturation. It's criminal. Summer and winter in Los Angeles will have you questioning why you signed up in the first place. You can sit on the same corner for maybe half an hour or more and think to move to another corner in any popular area of the entire county you can think of: they're all swarmed with Uber/Lyft drivers and you have no requests. Or you didn't match fast enough and another driver took the request. As a new driver, you probably don't know requests were sent one at a time back in the day and this was not a problem. The requests under $5 go mostly unanswered, but those also are about all that will pop up. LAX lot? No, LAX lot is typically 300 cars any time you look and when you get there the queue will be full already, but you're nowhere close to LAX anyway so why burn the miles. Sorry, but no airport rides will conveniently pop up for you either! I spent over five hours out driving for Uber Tuesday to only pick up TWO people. One took me to Simi Valley and tipped $100 bill, but I ended up driving all the way back to Downtown LA (even after trying to wait for someone at Universal Studios but no one requested) and going offline in defeat. I wanted to accrue the hours for my $1300 medical stipend, but I don't know how at this crappy rate.

As a driver in this game for the last year and doing almost 3000 trips, you will drive your car into the ground, if you get an accident even if it’s not your fault, the rideshare company doesn’t give a shit about you no matter how many five stars you have. It’s better to find a part-time job that you don’t have to put your self at risk, making peanuts while the companies are overcharging and underpaying the people actually doing the work. How do you not get a cancellation rate of 3%, like in Australia? When this happens, you don't get any information of the fare being offered.
@cbartal18 ай бұрын
The stupidest thing about Lyft: You could have both Lyft and Uber on. And you get a ride on Uber. While driving your Uber passenger you keep Lyft on. You got a couple of lyft requests that you ignore You drop your passenger off and sit and wait for your next ride But because you have Uber up you don't realize that lift has logged you off. What benefit is it for lyft to log you off and not tell you? It doesn't benefit Lyft, it doesn't benefit you and it doesn't benefit possible Lyft passengers. It's an easy fix, but lift evidently has no idea how its drivers multitask and use the apps.
@ChickenThug557 ай бұрын
That’s why you pause Lyft when you accept Uber. Same with multi apps with delivery and ride share vice versa.
@cbartal17 ай бұрын
@@ChickenThug55 I always keep both apps on at all times. Because if I'm on my way to pick up a $5 Lyft ride and I get offered a 35.00 Uber airport ride you had better believe I'm goin to cancel that Lyft ride to go for the big fish. Same goes the other way around if Lyft gives me a big ride. I have been driving for 7 years 8 to 10 hours a day 6 days a week. Of course you have to be careful because Lyft likes to threaten you for canceling too many rides. But this is all besides the point because Lyft is really mostly hurting itself if I'm off lift for a little while, I have zero chance of getting a ride on Lyft and 100% chance of getting a ride on Uber. Lyft forgets that if it's driver is not online then they can't accept rides. Uber pings you when they ask you if you want to go offline after x number of ride requests rejected or missed. This is why Uber is a much better app in every way and Lyft is just stupid and that is why they may eventually go under.

Anybody have the skinny on San Diego drivers and the potential net worth?
@dannyg4020129 ай бұрын
All great advice and tips ! I started driving Oct. 2022 and enjoy it. 1. I did create a Spreadsheet that does the Calculations for me. Took me a little bit to learn how to do it since I had no clue the 1st thing about a Spreadsheet. Every time I drive I enter my miles I drove, the MPG, hours I drove for each day, "cash out" from Lyft and Uber, and any expenses. It calculates my Income after Expenses, hourly pay after expenses, cost of fuel for that day, and net income. 2. My only issues with Uber is I live in Chicago right by the Indiana Border. I do a lot of Uber driving in N.W. Indiana. When I'm in Illinois, Uber tells me the pay, pickup distance, trip distance and all the information. When I'm in Indiana, Uber only tells me something like "Pickup 5 minutes away". It don't tell me how much the pay is or where the person is going. I accept the ride, it navigates me to the person, then when they get in and I "Start Trip" then it tells me the distance and miles. I never know the pay until the trip ends. I wish Uber would change that. I asked them about that before and was just told "That's the way it works in that market area". 3. I do need a Dash Cam. So many choices out there, and all I need is a good front view and inside view camera. I would like the option to have it so I don't have to remove a memory card but can view and save videos on my phone. Any suggestions?

Be sure to add a column for vehicle replacement costs in the future, this is where everyone is going to lose out. They know nothing of business-related costs and what to claim for tax deductions for depreciation especially.

If your market doesn’t have upfront fares then you won’t see the ride info upfront. Many markets and cities have not changed to upfront fares and are still paid through time/distance model

If you work in the big cities sure you can make more. But what about the smaller towns and cities. We're you have too drive farther. You do not make the same money. Also. Two people for a three dollar trip or a ten dollar trit's o k. But what about when you have 4 people in a car? Now you've got more weight. Which in turn uses more gas, more wear and tear. What about when you have 4 passengers now? You have more expense you use more Gas Stop more , wear a tear on your car. So for extra passengers more than 2, we should be getting double the rate.
@ariajam68182 ай бұрын
The first and the most important thing is you put mileage on your car, I lost two brand new cars first Toyota Yaris 2013 and second Toyota Corolla 2018 with almost 300.000 miles on them I worked just for Uber and finally after more than five years with riders complaining they bullying me and deactivated my app. New drivers should have dash cam because riders put bad reviews to don’t pay their fare. Uber doesn’t have any attention to your hard work, they don’t listen to drivers they don’t know how riders disrespect drivers,they are farting in my car many many times but I dump them in the first safe parking lot 😂😂😂😂
