Been driving for 4 months with Uber. One thing I learned is you have to be comfortable with saying NO! Particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. Don’t allow any kind of drinks in your vehicle especially those red cups! It’s your car it’s your responsibility it’s you who will pay don’t ever think a passenger will own up to anything if police👮♀️ get involved for any reason. Make sure passengers wear seat belts if they give you attitude or question…..really you shouldn’t have to explain yourself it’s self explanatory and the law but I always say in the event of an accident or emergency Ubers insurance will not cover you. And definitely not your personal insurance won’t cover it. If they keep giving attitude I politely tell them that they need to find another driver. Don’t let passengers who are absolutely hammered into your vehicle. When you get to your stop and you see your passanger(s) stumbling or been helped carried to your car do not take that ride . That passenger is to sick to get into your car into ANY car especially if you are driving a particularly nice car. Too many things can go wrong they may throw up in your car chances are they won’t were a seat belt they will be a backseat driver and give attitudes tell you if you can stop at the liquor store whatever it’s not worth your time. You have to be comfortable to tell people NO. it’s your time not there’s it’s your car not there’s and it’s ALL your responsibility Uber will not back you up So far all you rideshare drivers app workers gig workers bless your hearts stay humble stay positive and most importantly STAY SAFE!

I canceled immediately and contacted support about the location not being accessible.

Uber and Lyft should increase the riders cancellation fees. A group of riders will each request a ride and take the first one that gets there...with other drivers on their way. If Uber and Lyft charged $10 or $15 to cancel, riders might think twice before utilizing this trick. Furthermore, 100% of cancellation fees should go to the drivers.

I read about a driver yesterday that didn't accept a female rider because she had child seat age kids with no child seat, and now the guy has been deactivated because he followed the rules.🤷♂️ If the ppl never got in his car, the camera couldn't catch it, now he is fighting trying to be able to earn, but can't because he followed the rules? How could this sort of thing be handled so that the driver protects themselves from a bogus claim
@AustynSN6 ай бұрын
Most of the drivers in my area never follow the rules either. As I said in another post, I was deactivated recently and two of my "violations of community standards" were because I enforced masking and seatbelts. (The former was back in 2020.) Many drivers think that because our state doesn't require seat belts in the back seat that they aren't needed. Uber's rules disagree. I had actually switched to overnight driving because I had to cancel probably 1/5 of my rides due to no child seat or unaccompanied minors. Most pax act like it's unheard of that I can't take a 15 year old by themselves or that a 6-year old has to be in a car seat. I've actually had pax argue with me about my state's child seat laws. (Every state is slightly different so check your own to be sure.)

Great advice. I've been a driver now for almost three and a half years. I've actually had riders suggest that I get a video cam in my car. I'm going to have too look into the Florida law regarding that. And here's an idea you may want to pass along. Police Scanners. Currently, Florida law only allows first responders to have a police scanner in their personal vehicles. I recently wrote to the state representatives for my part of Florida asking them to amend the statute to allow rideshare drivers to carry scanners in their cars for safety reasons. You never know. You could receive a pickup or drop off request to a not-so-good area of town. The State Legislature meets in March.

@KH-mf1sq2 жыл бұрын
They know, but they don't care; they listen NEVER to the drivers' input. That company's sole goal is to make money and place the burden(s) on the drivers. I had two riders who had a stop. They were two college chicks who stopped to order smoothies from a shop located on the street with no parking. The two cheapskates left no tip. If they're (rideshare companies) going to force drivers to make stops on behalf of riders, the rideshare companies should tack on a flat flee of at least $5 for a stop, with a counter that ends at 5 minutes. After the countdown, the ride should be canceled. If there's no legal, safe parking, there should be no stop at all.

Only time I’m OK with somebody leaving their stuff in my vehicle is if the trip is 100% over with because when I return it I get a $15 return fee that they have to pay which is all good to me. The one about the unaccompanied minors is actually good for drivers to know I’ve actually ran into this where a parent will order a ride for a 14 or 15 year-old and I have to 100% when I get there because I don’t know when advance tell them I’m sorry I can’t give you a ride and less somebody 18 or above is with you. I feel bad, but I need to follow rules . It comes to car seat or booster seat. I actually get out and buckle those seats in my self. This way I 100% know for sure that it is buckled in correctly. I have words called Amira Dashcam records the front while I’m driving and while I’m parked, but it also records the inside of my vehicle with sound at all times now that being said, I don’t know what the one party law is here in Washington and I never looked into it. I’m not concerned because I have a sign up in my vehicle, stating that I have the cameras and getting in my vehicle and starting the ride is consent to be recorded. I had one guy ask me to speed because he was going to be late for his job interview. I told him politely I’m sorry you should’ve requested your ride sooner. I’m not gonna get a ticket for you. He says to me well what about if I pay the ticket I told him no I’m not endangering my life for you. I’ve got a family I want to go home to after my shift I’ve only ever had to kick one person out of my vehicle. I am a female as you can tell by my long comment but it’s because the guy offered me money for sex I was offended. I felt uncomfortable and I dropped him off in the middle of nowhere because I felt unsafe. I even made a police report with Uber‘s help . I’m going to come at one more time on here but it’s going to be a new comment and it’s going to be additional information that you didn’t add on here that it’s important for drivers to know and it’s about cash tips. Very important.

Usually until the age of 6 or 7 kids need a booster seat, you can tell if the seat belt is going across their neck instead of across the chest. When I drove Lyft/uber I used to keep a booster in the car for passengers, since most parents wouldn't bring one and it was always appreciated. For babies I never experienced the adult not having a car seat for the baby, but sometimes they don't want to strap it in, or face it backwards like you're supposed to for the baby's first year.

I got deactivated Thursday night. Not sure why. They just said I "violated community standards". I'd had two previous complaints about this "issue" back in 2020 and last April. Both rides were rides I canceled. The first because they weren't wearing masks the second because they refused to wear a seat belt. (Uber didn't tell me, but it was easy to figure out.) The most recent one, however, I have no idea. I'd had a scammer try to hit me a couple nights before, but I hung up on his ass. (And reported it to Uber immediately afterwards). Had another girl who seemed pissed that I wouldn't let her connect her phone to my car. (I don't play music, but have no problem with other people doing so on their phones. I need the USB connection for map screen, however. Also, it's stupid to connect your phone to somebody else's car since it downloads all your contacts. Privacy nightmare.) Then there was a guy who got mad because went by the route in the GPS, not what he wanted. (He didn't bother making any requests until after I'd already turned each time.) Then there was the guy that kept telling me to take my mask off. (I still wear one myself. Mom has lung cancer and I have severe allergies, so I don't actually notice if I'm sick. Also, I get a lot of rides to/from hospitals.) Uber said I could contest the matter, which I did, but since I had no idea what the complaint actually was, I was unable to send any dashcam footage. They allow you to send 5 files on the matter, but since I don't know who had the problem with me over about 2-3 days, I had no way of knowing what to send. My point to all of this? The dash cam might save you from legal issues, but if it's to prove a pax is lying, they are useless since Uber won't actually look or tell you what to send.
@theeperiwinkle4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, if the ridesharing company was telling you to enforce wearing a face diaper, then they are practicing medicine without a license. The same goes if you tried to tell someone he/she had to wear a mask. There is no law that says anyone has to wear a mask in any situation. Even a so-called "mandate" by a president is still NOT a law. A lot of illegal practices and bullying were occurring during 2020 and for some time after that as well. As far as wearing a sealtbelt goes, I personally don't tell anyone to wear one. If I did and the person refused, I've already done enough legally.
@AustynSN4 ай бұрын
@@theeperiwinkle No, the mask mandate was not illegal and was not "practicing medicine". It was a requirement on all forms of public transportation, including airplanes, buses, taxis, and ride share services. It was also required in all public places. Additionally, both seatbelts and masks (during the pandemic, but not currently on the latter) are/were required by Uber's terms of service. In using the apps, both drivers and riders are agreeing to follow those rules. While it's true that ride share drivers are "independent contractors" (thought the independent part is questionable), they (and the riders) do agree to follow Uber's stated rules. There was/is nothing illegal about the mask mandate or the seatbelt requirements and in most cases the latter is always required by state laws and the former was by municipal, state, and/or local laws depending on the time. Of course, by your flawed and incorrect logic, we're both guilty of practicing law without a license by these comments.

I informed Uber of this and they re activated me the next day. I got the same accusation about 3 weeks ago and volunteered to take a urine test to prove my innocence. I took that test and passed without issue but Uber still permanently deactivated my account. I had a 4.8 rating with over a thousand 5 star rides and two years of driving. As drivers we are left at Uber's will. However after speaking with my attorneys, they said Uber violated my federal rights as a disabled American and even though it is an at will employment agreement seeing that drivers are 10-99 self employed, we have a suit on discrimination so I'm pursuing that now. 1- verify your rider 2- know how many people are getting into your car 3- Don't let your rider stay too long at stops in a multi-stop trip 4- Do not let your passengers leave anchors (their stuff) in your car 5- know if there unaccompanied minors 6- Do not let children in your car without baby car seat (make sure it's properly set and fastened) 7- follow the disegnated pickup and drop-off zone 8- Don't wait for a passenger who isn't ready 9- have a dash camera 10- follow the law (you nor your passengers are above the law) 11- you can cancel the ride if you feel unsafe (drop the rider at a well lit and safe area)

In San Diego county Uber now has UberX-Teen. I'm wondering other than myself if they changed the minimum 18 year old in the car.

I used the bot grabber software #Leachtech programmed for me to grab all available orders that pops up. To my surprise the software is very sensitive in grabbing high paying orders with good tips.

I am learning to verify the exact destination address with the rider before starting the trip. No alternate addresses. They must modify the address in the app before I go anywhere! Big scam strategy. Then they put a pin number in the short destination so you have to deliver at an extended location for a short trip fare.
