@Arig Awad there are 600 thousand Turkish words and just 6 thousand of those words are arabic. I know, unfortunately Turkish people still use arabic words like “merhaba” and “selam” but the young generation are so clever and they started to say the Turkic word “esenlikler” for saying hello. Turkish language were dominated by arabic in the past but Atatürk deleted lots of arabic words from the language. And Turkish people forget the arabic words

It's difficult for me. With Turkish I still can't pronounce words after hearing them 2 or 3 times. It all sounds like sh sh sh sh sh sh to me instead of hearing individual words and letters. I would compare it to Russian in the way it sounds but I understand Russian words easier. I understand Arabic easier too. Tbh, for me Turkish is the hardest to understand from an accoustic pov.

I guess the hardest thing for the Europeans to learn to prounounce Turkish correctly is the "R" letter at the end of the word. The Turks pronounce it one way when speaking fast, and another way when speaking slow. And they seem not to be aware that it sounds nothing like R but more like zh or sh.
B O'door

@A. T. where does it sound like that?
B O'door

@Yorgakki actually zh or sh has nothing to do with R, to say sh in Turkish we use Ş, could you give an example of what you mean?

@A. T. When I was in Turkey, at least in the European side, they all seem to pronounce "R" like r, nothing like "rzh". So I believe that none of us non-Turks should be bothered by what to them seems to be a finesse.

it is easy actually just read the letter the way it is written. There is no phonetic alphabet for Turkish. For example in English you say : phrase = freyz. But in Turkish, for example "merhaba" is pronounced the same way it is written. Hope it helps.

I am taking Turkish class and I realised that Turkish vocabs and Malay vocabs have some similarities. For example: Kücük = small. Kecil= small, Masa= table. Masa= Time Çiçek= Flower. Cicak= Lizard Hayır= No. Hanyir=fishy Güle güle= Good bye. Gula-gula= sweet candy Dünya=The World. Dunia= The World I am excited and looking forward to learn new knowledge in my Turkish class!
