The green flame is unintentional in most cases. They use copper coils as copper is a great conductor. It's easy to shape and is relatively cheap when compared to other conductive metals. You can get lighters where you can change the colour of the flame by using different metal elements, but, they are kinda pricey for that they are. All this aside, does it really matter what colour the flame is? A lighter that produces any flame at all has fulfilled its purpose.
