The reel in this video is sort of a joke as I literally swapped as many parts between 3 reels to prove that even though they are from different brands. They're the same thing. The magnetic brake in this reel is set pretty far out in the sideplate and even when set to max offers very little braking influence.
Project Frankenreel: Kastking, vs Favorite White Bird vs Shishamo
• Kast King, Favorite, S...
First cast ever with a new setup hit the flag at 300'
• 100 yard cast. Actuall...

LxVE Bassin' Flukemaster also commented on the video. He was even talking about flukemasters videos about how he understands the time that goes into making fishing videos. If its not there its probably deleted. Fluke was telling him how to set up the reel to the lures weight to get distance, and not the setting it up just to get spool slack out to get maximum performance.

I respect people with style for 2 reasons 1 you make enough money to buy high end brands,and 2 you actually buy them, your well dressed in all your videos rockin the labels and brands so now i listen a lil more , the videos on the 13 product are excellent i was going to trade my spinfisher V 9500 A BEAST OF A REEL FOR a z3 and a 13 rod the guy said he paid $250 for the reel and 200 for the rod i see the rod at Tackle Direct for $99...so the trade thought is off thank you for taking the time to show evidence ..all other thoughts don't matter because you proved your point so ty ..

Im old enough to remember when the round Ambassadeurs were the best musky reels to be had. We got a 6000 to save a few bucks. It was buttery smooth. After one season you could tell it was really slowing down, and after 2 years nobody wanted to use it.....bushings were slopped out. The 6500 with bearings lasted for years. It will be interesting to see how the 13 Z holds up.

When measuring casting distance on the field, do you take into account the lead bouncing upon landing? I would imagine with the speed at which that lead comes down on the grass, it's got to move quite a bit from its impact point. Also, LOL at 16:25 for the "Wikileak", I didn't know that's turned into a physics page these days. On another note, about Reel Test, I liked the idea of his channel initially, but it's obvious to me that he's let his brand biases get in the way of his videos, and that leads me to doubt that he puts the same effort and casting quality into measuring the performance of different brand reels. And that's not to mention his questionable measuring method and him casting in windy conditions (seriously, who casts in 20mph wind and thinks he can reliably read off the distance to the nearest inche LOL?!). Also his petulance in responding to comments doesn't help his case at all. I mostly watch his channel anymore because he weighs the spools of different reels which I find to be useful.
@FishingInColumbusOH

Phuoc Bui you are likely right about lead bounce, but hearing him walk, the ground sounds saturated real good and the lead likely embedded in the ground
@Mrlippro1
@Mrlippro1 6 жыл бұрын
At 9:30 you can see the lead landed on dry grass. I doubt it got embedded in the ground. If anything the surface looks pretty bouncy to me.

Hey man! Believe it or not. 9 out of 10 times...it sticks. If i throw like a sp minnow or pencil popper it's like a lawn dart. We had a snow melt so that ground was extra squishy. I see what you're saying though and good question. LOL...Wikileaks has everything nowadays :) My gripe with reel test is early on is how thin skinned and thick headed he is. He isn't very experienced outside of bass fishing. He made a comment which i can't reply to since he blocked me from his channel. saying I should be casting further since I'm using light line and longer rods, heavier weights etc. However he had a 20mph tailwind. And doesn't cast to a target. I can hit a tee shot 350......but not always on the right fairway..same thing applies to casting...If I brought out a fast action 7 footer I'd throw lower trajectory casts which would net me longer distances vs the 8' rod which isn't as fast of a taper. He doesn't even show the audience his casting stroke. And it honestly looks like a short snappy cast....which only loads the top quarter of the rod and takes more effort and more can go wrong. But at the end of the day....and I've said this quite a bit...90% of todays reels will throw within 10% of each other....Given everything else equal.
@Mrlippro1
@Mrlippro1 6 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for clarifying the lead's landing. On your point about using a 7' rod, are you saying that a fast action would result in longer distance than a slower action? That doesn't sound quite right to me since the slower the taper, the more rod can be loaded during casting, thus the more energy is stored for launching the bait. I would say my real-world fishing experience confirms this. Also, while I understand your critique of TRT's casting technique, I don't find it to be a problem. His channel is about pitting reels against one another to see which one performs the best, not about him trying to break distance-casting records. So as long as he casts consistently across all measurements, that's fine by me.
@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 6 жыл бұрын
The key to casting distance is loading the entire rod. You can load a fast action rod into the but by changing casting technique. 99% of bass fishermen are tip casters. And that's really all that's needed. If I were to critique my casting in this video. Vs the last one. I did not drop the rod tip as far and extend overhead as much. Plus there was a huge low pressure coming and my shoulder was barking at me. And being honest I was a little trigger shy since the brake on this reel I don't think is seated properly and is too far from the spool. So I went little easy. And it showed in how much less the rod loaded (watch the first few seconds of the vid) A rod that has a faster action will have more power further out towards the tip which would almost make it cast like a slower actino rod that's longer. Slower rods that are easy to load cast further with less effort. Ask any surf fishermen who throws plugs all day or night what action they prefer. Throw a moderate action rod and you get easy 100 yard distances. Throw a fast action rod and it takes more effort to got that far but it can get further out with effort and technique. I have 2 shimano tiralejo 11 foot surf rods. ONe's a broom stick. One's softer. I can throw almost 600' with the broom stick. but preter the softer rod as I can lob 150 yards flat footed. That Brrom stick is capable of thesame distances and greater...but requires better timing and more effort.

My best suggestion, if you can, use TW's reel test program. Get a couple of the reels if they let you and try them for a week. This video touches on something most don't...not everyone has the same casting motion. I'm a sidearm caster. Don't ask me to cast overhand, I'll hook the tree behind us or break the plug I'm casting on my trolling motor head. Some reels do better with certain motions than others. I have several Concept A's, great reels. I've messed with Shimanos and don't see the hype. I also have a Lews and several Abu Garcia's.

I love my concept Z and got one early and used it for blackfish jigging schoolie fishing and bass. Great reel. No difference in smoothness from the first day I got it. In my opinion while using it with immense pressure it’s the toughest baitcaster I’ve used behind the older Calcutta’s I used. It’s almost as nice as chronarch. Only issue I had was with the grips. They got knicked up pretty easily but all around I would recommend it for heavy duty freshwater and medium heavy duty inshore. Biggest fish was a 26 pound striper on an sp minnow I pitched on a light

Thanks Dom!!! Greatly appreciated! I did see that. And the vid that I'll be releasing will incorporate some of his comments there and on tackle tour as well as some of 13's promoters. I feel he has left me alone due to our interactions on Tackle tour. All in hopes that I can get some clarity as to why every part that seems to be part of the marketing of this reel. Is what makes it rickety and noisey. Swapping out the CZB bearings to standard ball bearings made this reel feel more refined. And by refined..it made it feel like an aluminum geared abu.

I think if some company (whether 13, shimano, diawa etc.) can really refine the polymer bushing technology in the future then I think it could become a more sought after feature but I don't see this reel being all that great. I saw your comments on TT about the tolerances which is one thing I was afraid of. Clean those up and change some other design elements and they would have a really solid reel I think.

@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Sure....TO be 100% transparent. ANd I've mentioned it in a few videos. I have access to purchase reels at a discount usually 30% to 40% through friends in the industry, programs offered to influencers, or through just retail. I bought the z at full price. I have a partnership with a tackle shop who's tossed me gear that I've asked for....But that was for tuna and it's collecting dust at the moment :) Since I started out last march i think. Subscribers have offered up 60 reels. Ranging from Antares and Exscenses.......down to kast kings.(15 over the past two days) I've accepted 20 or so(maybe more or less...if i keep track of that number i get overwhelmed...lol) My sole income is youtube, patreon, amazon, ebay affiliate revenue. And for 2017....I earned I believe half of the threshold required to submit a tax return... :) So At least I don't have to pay the fine for not having health insurance last year.....Went from $90K/year working for a pharmaceutical company to making 5k on youtube :) I've been offered free product from companies......and I kind of warn them that they may not like what I put out. 3 out of 15 or 20 still offered the product. But I told them to wait until spring...(a headlamp company just sent one regardless which i haven't even opened the box yet) I ordered a bunch of daiwa reels on their vip program. Which was offered to me a loooong time ago wayyy before I started on youtube since I have been doing these things on message boards and have become friends with fishermen in the right circles. Still cost me a grand.....And I just put out a vid kinda bitchin about their sloppy knobs. If they don't like the press..they can pull the plug. And it's not always fun dealing with companies direct.....I spent real money...and they shipped all the wrong gear ratios.....and it was like pulling teeth to swap just one (ballistic lt) Which reminds me I gotta box it up and ship it out)

Since than I continue to see mixed reviews on this reel. I don't know if the people who like it are not as tuned in as yourself and others who have used really high end reels or what? I know I heard in the past with the concept a and c, some people just didn't like them. Said they felt cheap. Have you ever tried one of the other concepts?

I only have this reel and a creed k (which is not a stand out product in the 40-60$ price ) After tearing the z down and taking a close look...ever part supported by a czb bearing has a visible, audible and tactile amount of slop. Mattt from 13 fishing said the tolerances are .001 MM...Which if i'm not mistaken...001 mm isn't even visible....and this is easily seen...and it's everywhere. Ball bearings and the parts they support are rock solid fits. The only way I would say this reel is as refined as say even a quantum accurist..is if i shot my arms up with novacaine. It does have a different feel and sound on the cast and retrieve......but it's not solid...A curado K is n a different league in terms of that buttery smooth type retrieve. Between the brass on brass gears and precision allignment. It's not close

With Tatulas selling for around $100 i dont understand why anyone would spend $200 for the Concept Z. For about the same price of the Z you can get a Ballistic T-3 that will easily handle anything from 3/8 oz hollow body frogs to 4 oz swimbaits. I dont know if it will win any distance shootouts, but believe me, they cast plenty far.

If you watch the beginning and slow it down in the youtube settings. You can see I don't drop the tip or extend on the release nearly as much as I did when casting the Concept Z :) I was a little trigger shy since the mag brake on this frankenreel came out of a different reel and I think needed a spacer to get it closer to the spool. As even at max braking i couldnt throw a jerk bait or jig without backlashing it at max settings. The fact that it was just a lead weight made it easier.

@logicalrationalfishing7481
@logicalrationalfishing7481 6 жыл бұрын
They put like 10 in there on purpose to add bearing count. Your Revo has them in key location and much more expensive bearings, handle bearings are essentially useless, they don't bear load. I think the Revo X has 2 on the main shaft, an anti-reverse bearing (1), 3 on the pinion/spool shaft, and 1 in each knob for 8 total.
@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 6 жыл бұрын
YEah......3 is all ya need..2 spool one at the base of the handle shaft. 5 can then support the pinion in two places. 7 includes all that and worm gear bearings. 8 should be all that and a bearing supporting the handle shaft above the ar clutch......12 is 2 knobs on the handle shaft :)

Problem is the slack. How do you account for that? Lots of guys use those line counters and reel in the line. But how does the viewer know they're being honest. But at the same time...90% of reel sout there will cast within 10 % of one another. There is a shimano antares dc reel where a dude claims to throw a frog exactly 100 years.....WHich is complete and utter bs. that cast went maybe 60....maybe...

Lol, I can also tell that every time that you cast, you get a birds nest, the concept z doesn’t do that to me.
@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 6 жыл бұрын
That's because the brake isn't fit correctly in this reel. I was swapped from a white bird reel with a different side plate. The brake of the Z doesn't go nearly as low as the highest setting in that reel. The person who won that reel in the 3 reel Franken reel giveaway was advised just to vertically jig with it. Are you trying to play gotcha or something.. Lolol...i blow up reels all the time. Even shattered bearings. Comes with the territory when shooting for over 700 feet

have you put the Royal legend up against the Speed Demon, ? the Speed demon is so much smoother both ways, and faster, or so it seems
@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 6 жыл бұрын
The speed demon I have is pretty rickety. If i turn the mag dial up the spool sounds like it grinds against it. Like really rubs hard. Both reels are what they are. I don't really think they perform outside their price point. But baitcasters in general are pretty durable and smooth. So it's easy to get the warm and fuzzies from a 40 to 60$ baitcasters. Not knocking them.....just an observation from what I've seen. The royales brake is a mag and a weird bunch of pins that squeeze the handle shaft. So....that is part of the reason the speed demon may feel better on the way out.

any bc reel from a reputable company that has 5 or so bearing is going to work very well for anyone fishing and is not going to fail all the ridiculously overpriced reels with more bearings than a car engine its all just bs who in the hell ever that thinks they need a 2,3 or 400.00 bc reel has completely lost touch with reality a 90 dollar shimano or daiwa is going to last anyone for years and work flawlessly im so lost trying to understand this overpriced reel craze and people just tripping over each other to spend that kinda money for nothing i mean come on ball bearings in the dam handle please just kill me now
@TackleAdvisors
@TackleAdvisors 6 жыл бұрын
+VeratosizFishing for baitcasters yeah... I get it. Premium prices usually mean 4 to 5 ounce weights which is really cool. Spinning reels that jump in price that don't offer quality gear materials are a waste. Pfluger comes to mind. Ball bearings in the handles is seriously a major upgrade. If the stock knobs move in and out or rock. It's not about knobs that spin but locking them in a precise spot on the retrieve. Makes a 150 $ reel feel ultra premium. But you're entitled to your opinion.

Hey Mark sorry for the one worder...comment section was freezing. And it looks like that time it went through. Curado k is a better reel in ever aspect other than weight. CZB's positives don't make them worth the expense they carry over the 100$ 13 fishing counterpart. At least i think that's the price of the ball bearing model. The curado's brake is much more adjustable/ fine tunable. Retrieve is more refined and powerful. The drive train is supported at all points. Tolerances are much tighter on the Curado. And it's not neon orange

Sad because I thought he was going to be beneficial...but after how many casting tests now...and he still doesn't discuss anything about the casting performance other than distance. Doesn't show viewers his casting stroke. Doesn't show how oils impact casting. It's all subjective and junk scientific. The vid he just put out was just done for views....How the hell do you put out a casting contest video...with 20mph winds!!!! I have 100 hours of footage from this past spring where I spent hours casting and waiting for wind breaks...and said eff it....this is no good....and scrapped it.. And at the end of the day I thought to myself...they're bass reels..they all cast pretty much the same max distance....it just comes down to how low in the brakes you can go and the lube. Sad he hasn't come out and said it. I wonder if he realizes he has older vids casting heavier weights shorter distances....that should tell y'all something.
