amazing vid!! it's rly fun discovering genres i'd never seen as i love to learn about music! but i was wondering if 11:50 (melodic dubstep) was actually the correct genre for the song because i don't seem to notice the dubstep elements.. i hear more trap-y elements in the song. correct me if i'm wrong the better examples of melodic dubstep could be Just b's Damage & cravity's Outro: in our cosmos, i think ^^
@taemteez
@taemteez 2 ай бұрын
melodic dubstep is wayyy more aligned to trap than dubstep funnily enough! for a good description of melodic dubstep it would be " incorporating melodic and emotional elements into heavy bass and electronic beats". those two songs are DEFINITELY good examples of melodic dubstep but weigh more on future bass imo!

lot of questions here but i'll try to answer some! jersey club is the origin of the __ club genres, so its pretty much any song with that style and the beat of jersey club. baltimore club has a lot more shuffle in it and more layers to the percussion. freestyle is a genre of music that originated in new york in the early 80s among latin and black communities! the most popular freestyle song is Planet Rock which was sampled in aespa's supernova! rai is an algerian folk genre that is obviously extremely rare anywhere else in the world, but ive took the genre and made it more pop-y which fellow ktuber wisp denoted as pop rai so i figured i'd include it! shoutout to wisp :D more psytrance: silent night by dreamcatcher, last piece from queendom puzzle, los angelos by seulgi!

romanian popcorn or simply popcorn is a genre that originated in romania (obviously lol) and is decently popular in western music! if you've ever heard mr. saxobeat thats a pretty solid example of romanian popcorn skweee originated somewhere in scandinavia and blends synth/chiptune with funk, rnb, soul etc. the reason for the silly name is its a made-up word influenced by the swedish language LOL

@daerrinizz
@daerrinizz 2 ай бұрын
STAYC's 'Not Like You' falls more into the genre teen pop considering its strong vocals and catchy hooks. The verses employ a more electronic soundscape similar to that of future bass rather than afrobeats. AFROBEATS on the other hand relies on heavy drum patterns especially the talking drum which does not appear on this song and influences from genres such as funk and soul. Listen to ANY afrobeats song by a actual afrobeats artist it doesn't sound like this.
@taemteez
@taemteez 2 ай бұрын
@@daerrinizz youre confusing afrobeats with afroBEAT. taken from wikipedia: Afrobeats (with the s) is commonly conflated with and referred to as Afrobeat (without the s); however, these are two distinct and different sounds and are not the same. Afrobeat is a genre that developed in the 1960s and 1970s, taking influences from Fuji music and highlife, mixed in with American jazz and funk. Characteristics of Afrobeat include big bands, long instrumental solos, and complex jazzy rhythms. The name was coined by Nigerian afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti. Fela Kuti and his longtime partner, drummer Tony Allen, are often credited for laying the groundwork for what would become afrobeats. This is in contrast to the afrobeats sound, pioneered in the 2000s and 2010s. While afrobeats takes on influences from Afrobeat, it is a diverse fusion of various different genres such as British house music, hiplife, hip hop, dancehall, soca, Jùjú music, highlife, R&B, ndombolo, Naija beats, Azonto, and palm-wine music. Unlike Afrobeat, which is a clearly defined genre, afrobeats is more of an overarching term for contemporary West African pop music. The term was created in order to package these various sounds into a more easily accessible label, which were unfamiliar to the UK listeners where the term was first coined. Another, more subtle contrast between the two sounds, is that while Fela Kuti used his music to discuss and criticise contemporary politics, afrobeats typically avoids such topics, thereby making it less politically charged than afrobeat. and if wikipedia isn't "reliable" enough for you, heres an excerpt from professionals published by spotify. "Afrobeats, a term that was only really first used around 2011, draws from a broader range of influences and subject matter. However, Fela's [referring to Fela Kuti] international success in the 1970s, and his influence on the art of global creators like Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z, have provided a frame of reference for the subsequent success of Afrobeats." alongside this, a survey provided on spotify's website says that afrobeats is "mostly defined by the rhythm and the beat", making Not Like You and objectively afrobeats-genre song. in case that wasn't enough for you, here are some "actual songs by actual afrobeats artists" that are WIDELY considered afrobeats, not just by me. Jump - Tyla, Gunna, Skillibeng What A Life - Eony Water - Tyla soso - Omah Lay Calm Down - Rema, Selena Gomez Bad Vibes - Ayra Starr, Seyi Vibez these examples and plenty more are VERY similar in production to Not Like You. again i believe you are confusing afrobeat (a different genre) with afrobeatS.
