If you do the math, you'll realize that 8 grand a month is 96 grand a year, and that's really not a huge amount of money these days. He did say that he's very rarely had incredibly rich months, but those are few and far between. He had to work hard and consistently to gain that sort of clientele. There are lots of ways to earn 100k/yr., and this business can be grimy, sweaty work. A machine like this will require a good bit of maintenance as well, and he didn't get into that aspect. It's not all rainbows and lollipops here, no matter how upbeat that goofy interviewer is.

Camgreer, $96k/yr. is not a lot of money these days? HAHAHA!! Silver spooners such as yourself would come on social media to scoff at people doing/contemplating blue collar work. $96/yr. to be your own boss and set your own hours increases the value of those earnings for a lot of people. Not to mention this was with snow season. It helps to be mechanically inclined but considering the engine used, I don’t see slot of maintenance involved- even with vehicle. Diesels are designed for this workload and routine oil changes and greasing are pretty much the extent of the maintenance. I have an 19 year old gasoline 2600 psi pressure washer that has lots of run time on it all that’s been done is biannual oil changes. If the maintenance was excessive, I’m sure it would have been mentioned, but it wasn’t. It was just a “good to be mechanically inclined.” At any rate, enjoy your quest for those easy to find $100k/yr job all those college graduates thought they’d get after spending $250k plus on their degree while they work in retail and/or as wait staff.

Cam, there’s ~260M adults in the US and because you see some videos on here of a few people making $100K/yr., you somehow arrive at the conclusion that it’s easy to make that kind of money annually and that kind of money isn’t a lot in this day in age even when the median household income in the US is ~$66k/yr? The only way I can see you arriving at such a conclusion is because of a disconnect- that you must have been born into wealth because I’ve never come across anyone that had to actually work for their money suggesting $100k/ year is easy and it’s not a lot of money. People that come from money have that outlook- because I know a few and your outlook is just like theirs and why I referred to you as I did. But hey, do you, booboo.

Great interview and Allen seems like a very humble guy. I do however think that his approach isn’t the only successful approach in pressure washing. You definitely can still make a good living off of smaller jobs. The bigger equipment nets you bigger opportunities but the amount of resources and learning curve are also things to consider.

I run two 20 gallons per minute pressure washers two gas roof punch AR 60s the key is get in and get out they are a lot more bigger machines in the world but nice setup I've seen some that are 45 gallons per minute cat pumps on the oil rigs keep up the good work brother

i run a 2x2 with 4x4 inlet valve train with a tranny spoked water spiket. just hook up to the owners spicket and suck there wells out dry. 10000 gallons a second. aint my water so i dont care. i pressure washed some guys house and blew his paint off the wall blew all the stucko off to bare structure. there was no walls left on the house only the 2x4s and 2x3s aint my house so i aint care.

I worked with a pressure washer company for 3 weeks in june there system was bigger than this one I was bringing them 2000gallons 2 times a day with my water truck we were working for a big gas company here in Alberta .It took 2 men to run this system they were degreasing huge compressor fans that push gas down pipe lines ..

Create business banking account -In order to live the life you are envisioning, establishing a solid banking relationship at a SMALL bank is where I suggest, you can build a relationship and from there they can offer you credit to grow...go to a local bank and start small and deposit into your BUSINESS account and transfer to your PERSONAL for bills etc....your BUSINESS account is not a piggy bank Get a Quickbooks subscription Go online to find someone who can run your quickbooks remotely...should not cost much, $15-$17 an hour...maybe 10 hour a month, this will get you organised and your taxes will be easier to file at the end of the year. Make sure this person has 10 years experience. www.wix.com/html5us/scheduling-software THIS type of tool is perfect. Calendar, estimates, billing and ties to Quickbooks. Find a web developer who can show you real business clients, not splash pages. They can also help with social media, craigslist banners etc. We can talk about bidding jobs once you are set up.... To protect against being sued personally as well as creating an entity to pay yourself a small salary and then the profit is distributed personally to the owner, which will be taxed differently than income ...if your business grows you can sell shares to raise capital from outside investment ....each state is different...I don't want to get into the weeds, this is basic business structure for a small business owner...that allow an entrepreneur to take the risk of starting a business.

Allen Cox . I could really use a little bit of advice if you have a chance. I admire you Not only as a businessman but as a human being. I love the way you design and build your own equipment. I too am somewhat Of a backyard engineer. I’m not gonna waste too much of your time so here it is. Im a fence installer by trade But in doing that the Lord has open another door for me I do believe. A very big client of ours wants me to give him a proposal for pressure washing and 18,000 foot fence. I just recently put together a pretty nice portable machine but really that’s all I have. But I feel like this job, Completed successfully, would allow me to purchase more equipment and get my name out there in the business. My main question what do I charge for something like that. I’ve washed fences before and I’ll tell you what it is harder than building them. Do I charge by the linear foot and is it double the price if I’m washing front and back. I run a combo unit vac truck with a 5 cube (5000L²)water tank with a steamer and pressure washer on board including a vac tank and a 10 cube waste tank for the vacuum portion of the truck.

Everyone in this business does things differently. This guy has a nice setup but far far away from the biggest in the world. He does things the way he likes and there's nothing wrong with that. Pressure washers turn into hydtoblasters at a certain psi. Which those can have pumps larger than his entire pressure washer. He's correct with the water flow you need volume.

So if he makes 200 an hour and pulls 40 hours a week that's 200X2080=416,000-20%=83200. So dudes take home is $332,800. I know he's in his 60's so it will be less. But damn dude is a hustler.

Cut that in half at least your under the assumption he works 40hrs every week. You have to take in consideration that his job is seasonal so that easily knocks off about 4-5 cold months. Then rainy days and it is dependent that he is also has a job scheduled.

Best advice from this guy was Networking with your competition. This is actually beneficial for everyone. My uncle owns a gutter company and he is well known among construction companies and insurance adjusters in his area. When a hail or windstorm occurs in his city or area he will be flooded with calls for service. Most of the time he can't do 90% of the work so he floats jobs to other gutter companies and they will give him a percentage of their profit for finding jobs for them. He works 5-7 days a week 12 hours a day and makes around 300k a year. His 2 crewmen/employees make 150k each a year!

I agree. He’s too old school. I’m sure he could murder some concrete jobs but he’s not doing anything right by today’s standards. It’s all about soft washing with bleach and soap at high gpm, low psi. Maybe he can with that 18gpm machine but you don’t need to spend as much as he did. Just get a AR60 gas roof pump. Too old school, Leon from southern style would put him to shame.

@@allencox8828 I think the water tank is standard on many trucks that do parking lots and garages, but what was different about your setup vs others is you have 1 engine (98 hp) and it runs 2 9 GPM pump’s at 4,000 psi (18 gpm). That’s what’s great. But, as much as I like the motor, there are many many companies out there that run four 8 gpm machines with GX690’s or 800’s all tied together to achieve 32 GPM when surface cleaning flatwork. Mostly the garage guys and they usually have 2000 gals and even double that water trucks that they have specifically for this. Running I believe 1/2 in hose. So I’d say you have the biggest motor on a washer but, in terms of GPM, there are many many out there that have double the GPM.

@@allencox8828 lots of guys have 72" surface cleaners mounted on the bottom of zero turn lawn mowers like a mower deck and will run a 1/2" hose and then you just have to drive along. You need to check out some of the facebook groups I think you will be very surprised how many guys out there that have some machines that are huge. I have a friend here who doesn't even pressure wash and has a 21 gpm machine he had built and put on a skid so he could move it around with a sky track or excavator to clean his trenchers. its a hot water unit and he has the worlds deepest trenchers. they are building the us border wall with one actually.

@@allencox8828 yeah I think the guys with the big zero turns are doing big commercial flat work mainly in open areas like parking lots and garages etc. yes I know what you mean with losing your psi because of friction loss with the hose and you even loose a little flow. I test mine quite a bit I have a digital pressure gauge thats really precise and 3 GPI flow meters so I post lots of testing videos for both 12v and pressure washers. When doing stuff like flat work I picked up more speed with my surface cleaners running larger tips. So I’m running an 8gpm @3000 (it does 8.5 gpm at open flow on digital gauge) so it would be two 2504’s but it runs much faster if I run 25045’s because its more flow but still enough psi to clean. 1,800-2,600 psi is all you need unless your doing something special like gum removal in which case you would use a wand and just put a smaller orifice tip in. Most days I run my 8gpm and a 5.6 until I put my other 8 in the rig and we never exceed 300 is psi. I downstream and then bypass the injector with a remote that turns a high pressure ball valve so I get 1/2” open flow for rinsing and can still use the large tips and low pressure. I tell this to new guys and especially the old guys who have done this stuff for a long time that you should always use a cleaner and if you need to use more pressure on the various tasks I mentioned then you either need to get a different cleaner, apply it differently, fix something in your system, change your tips maybe even the spray pattern or something. Even like the small retaining walls your cleaning in the video I would still put a 4 to 6% sh on that either before or after power washing it and maybe you do that as well and were just making footage for this video. I know it looks the same with or without the cleaner in some cases but with the cleaner you are cleaning it on the microscopic level and giving them a longer clean. I never really use a turbo tip either because you can feel pieces of the concrete hitting you and that means your using to much psi. My friend with the big machine on a skid does put it on a truck yes but he needs to be able to take it off at times and put it on a semi trailer to go out on other jobs that are out of state and across the country if its needed. Then on some of these jobs he can only access the equipment that he is washing via big machinery so he will move it with an excavator or another big machine instead of running hoses a 1,000 + feet ya know. I think ideally he leaves it on a truck with a tank but thats not always possible. They also do well drilling and dewatering aside from the trenching so they know how to get water. If you look up dewind one pass trenching here on youtube you will see the machines I’m talking about. They take 8 semis to move them and can go 140 ft deep while simultaneously pouring a concrete wall. I will say I bet that is in fact the biggest motor on a pressure washer that you have thats a lot of HP for a diesel and lots of torque I’m sure you could run even bigger way pumps I know I would run 30 gpm for rinsing flat work if I could but just run the ball valve so the psi is not trying to lift you off the ground haha.
