Had that happen with shop apron. Using free standing grinder polishing side. Big wire wheel. Grabbed apron strings tied in front. Managed to lock my arms straight and it proceeded to rip that heavy denim apron and part of my shirt right off. Had a few bruises but nothing bad. Guys all had great laugh and nicknames once they saw I was not hurt.

Got to keep the Morris name going Crap that's what i was going to get you this year. A engine stand. Years ago, I built an old Harley Shovelhead engine. Bored, decked, balanced, ported and installed a ported and polished CV carb. I was expecting around 100 HP. After fire up and break in, it felt stock! After a bunch of playing around with timing the cam and ignition, jetting and a few valve adjustments, I figured to dual plug the heads. It ran really good when it was running rich. Installed the dual plugs, and the matching ignition, DAMNED THING LEAPED TO LIFE! We fairly easily hit our 100HP goal. Sometimes all it takes is the right ignition to bring a build together. Old tech sometimes needs a little bit of help to bring it to life.

Steve, FWIW, Beta is one of the biggest pro tool manufactures in Europe and elsewhere in the world. They have a very rich motorsports heritage and have been in the tool business for decades. Quite a few F1 teams use their stuff and their yearly, beefy catalog is very drool-worthy. About 20 years ago I worked for a friend that tried to introduce Beta to the US market (we were based out of Denver) but the domestic brands were too entrenched and had too many mechanics in their debt to switch even through Beta was superior (IMHO).

The IGN1A coils are inductive vs. capacitive discharge. As Steve said, the inductive spark last a lot longer (typically 1ms). You also lose spark energy through the dizzy - was this one phased correctly? As far as I'm aware, the primary reason people went to CDI was in the days of distributors when a single inductive coil didn't have enough time to charge at high revs. With the availability of multi-coil systems, no need to waste spark energy in a dizzy.

It's nice to have a power fall off a little so when you shift you're rocking the rpm over the peak...very nice! Shift that big motor about 6500 and it'll do great. And with over 5" stroke I don't think you'd want to rev any harder just for longevity reasons. That motor is going to turn the car anything but loose!

Hey Steve, Tim here, theres more there, the ignition is still ur achilles heal....but u got SIGNIFICANT power........i wish the torque curve was better tho....a nice flat one shows volumetric efficiency......when it dies down quickly, we still got an issue, fundamental NA........i know ur a boosted dude, a bit more attention, that 800, some odd cube monster, COULD muster a better torque curve......make it more usable, NOT just peak #.......just a thought

It comes down to the coil output current,say if u have a coil that puts out 40KV @ 100ma u wont get much of a arc and it will be ALOT colder than say 40KV @ 1A so what it means is the lower current output ignition has a weak spark which is how the spark gets blown out,creates miss fires,low HP

I have a question. This is a big NA engine, but in runs on 93 octane pump gas and has a 115 LSA camshaft, not usually known for making peak torque numbers. 1253 lb/ft divided by 843 CID is 1.486 lb/ft/CID. Is this not way beyond a suspiciously good result? I mean, "Some say" that that just the top 10% of engine builders manages 1.35 and only the top 1% achieves 1.40.

I often wonder about the spark efficiency at high RPM related to combustion pressure. Maybe the spark voltage is higher and cleaner with your setup? The low ends look the same in both configurations, but that top end is so much better.
@gordowg1wg145
@gordowg1wg145 4 ай бұрын
One ot the theories is that a longer spark, or multiple spark CDI systems, is that with a single short spark the combustion starts at the spark and then the burn front progresses from that point as it's carried through the turbulent fuel/air mix, which may not be homogenised (the same everywhere), so some parts burn better and faster than others that don't quite have the right mix yet. With a longer spark, the fuel is getting ignited for longer at that point, and so the flame front is "elongated" (stretched out) and this burns the fuel faster and, as it's carried around inside the cylinder, finds more of the unburned fuel and oxygen to burn that too. One of the things that has been pretty universally reported is that less ignition timing is required. Oh, the biggest improvements are reported on BIG engines, that usually need more time to burn the fuel, and engines that have poor cylinder head designs for turbulence, like Hemi's and other open chamber heads - or both! With these, it's believed there can be times when a very poor mixture may be present around the spark, and this can drastically slow, even prevent, ignition from occuring. That poor ignition characteristic is why Chrysler developed the twin-plug heads for drag racing, and that are now found on their street engines, elbeit more for emissions with the latter..
