That's not a silly as it sounds ! There is something in it. My face isn't very attractive at all, yet i find that when i approach attractive women i get a positive response. I think this might be because they know that they are attractive and can be intimidating with it, so if an unattractive man approaches them, they think he must have confidence to do so. ( funnily enough, i find the opposite effect on less attractive women, who think you must LACK confidence if you approach them !)
