600,000 miles? Incredible. You took great of that car. I kind of let mine go but now I want to fix it up. Good job!

Since this car has the most miles in my fleet, it receives the most maintenance and thus the most KZbin videos. I only wish that I hard started making videos on this car sooner. I've only posted 4 videos on this car so far, but I plan to make a playlist on my channel just for this car. I bought it certified pre-owned with 51,000 miles as a 36-month local lease return, so I put over 550,000 miles on it myself.

I just bought an 06 TL from a close friend of mine. I know two guys that have TL's. One neglects his car and uses cheap Shit gas, he has 250k+ on his. The other guy buys top shelf products and uses Chevron supreme, he has 500K on his.

Hi John, trying to be like you but with my 2006 TL 5AT base in Alabaster Silver. I like your oil filter choice. I am using the Ultra version on my TL. I am having P0300, P0301, P0302, P0304 pending misfires under load of 3K RPM or more. the flashing light only tends to appear under wide open throttle or holding the engine at 3K or more for a multiple misfire cycles. I have replaced plugs, coils, timing belt kit, pcv, cleaned egr, repaired and oil leak into the spark plug tube seals prior to replacing the plugs, all genuine parts, ive done swaptronics and the misfires do not move, compression is good, i’m stumped. im thinking its my injectors

How would you recommend just doing the crankshaft sensor. Thanks
@zabdielperez19104 жыл бұрын
The crankshaft sensor can prevent the car from starting even if you have spark, fuel AND air?? I dont have any misfire codes but the car only cranks
@JohnsGarage4 жыл бұрын
I had a similar problem on my Acura TL about 5 years ago with cranking but not starting. Have you checked the fuse in the engine bay located in the black fuse box behind the right front passenger strut tower? It is a 15 amp fuse labeled "ACG S". If that fuse is blown, the engine will crank but never start. I also had an intermittent issue with the main relay under the steering column. It is Honda part number 37400-S84-003 or Autozone Duralast #20113. Mine had a short and the car would shut-off while driving. When I pulled this relay out I could press on the circuit board while the car was running and see a spark and the engine would die. If you need a video with instructions on either of these, let me know and I can make one.

Is it possible can you change the timing belt while doing this job?
@JohnsGarage3 жыл бұрын
You could do the timing belt while you have the face of the engine undressed. My timing belt will be due for a change again soon, but that will be a future video.

I just bought a 2003 Acura TL that won’t go past 3000 rpm, if it goes past 3000 the car jerks constantly , if put in manual mode and shifted before 3000 rpm it will get all the way up to speed do you think this could be the problem ?
@JohnsGarage3 жыл бұрын
This could be an indication that your transmission is slipping. Possible bad clutch packs in a certain gear.
@JohnsGarage3 жыл бұрын
Check your transmission dip stick while parked and the engine is off. Ensure that the fluid is between the low and high marks on the stick. Also, ensure that the fluid is pink in color and does not look burned and dark brown.

@JohnsGarage2 жыл бұрын
Those codes indicate random misfires on all 6 cylinders. When was your last completed tune-up? Do you have the correct spark plugs and coils? Are they fairly new or very old? Have the valves been properly adjusted? Have the two oxygen sensors ever been replaced. Is the PCV valve working properly? PCV valves are inexpensive and easy to replace.
@JohnsGarage2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like an air/fuel mixture problem. Have you cleaned the throttle body? Also, under the throttle body is the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). That allows the right amount of air to get thru when the throttle valve is closed so that the car can idle. In high mileage cars, that valve gets carbon build up and can fail to move smoothly or even seize which can mess up the amount of air needed for the car to idle. It may be difficult to clean the carbon off and may need to be replaced. Auto parts stores sell this IACV for about $100.

Another very easy thing you can do is "clean the beehive." Remove the top plate on the very top center of the engine by unscrewing several 10mm bolts. Once you have that plate off, turn it over and take a small screwdriver to scrape out all the carbon deposits in the EGR passageways. Also, clean the four ERG port holes on the intake where the beehive is mounted. If the beehive is clogged up, it can throw codes.

@JohnsGarage3 жыл бұрын
The AutoZone sensor has a lifetime free replacement warranty. I have lots of AutoZone sensors on this car with no issues at all. Acura does not offer lifetime parts warranties. I only use genuine Acura brand parts for selected applications like water pump replacements, etc.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with Duralast parts. The only AutoZone Duralast part I recall ever having to go back to the store is the ignition coils. They still worked fine, but since they have a lifetime warranty, I return them every 2 or 3 years or so when the rubber boots dry out and they give me free new coils. Those are expensive so it is a great deal. The Acura dealer parts are only warranted for 90 days or 3,000 miles and electronic/ignition parts come with a "tail light warranty." As soon as you drive away and they can no longer see your tail lights, the warranty is over. If you come back the next day, no warranty at the Acura dealer.
