How to change a fuel filter on a 2000 chevy Silverado 1500.
Tools needed:
5/8 wrench
13/16 wrench
Use a line wrench if you got one, I used a 13/16 wrench and it worked fine for me.
WARNING: Do not put your face under the fuel filter because some gas will pour out of the lines.
Wear safety glasses or face shield, {DO NOT GET GASS IN YOUR EYES}

Wish i had seen this 3 weeks ago, would have saved me $400 plus replacing filter and pump. Like you, once replaced, truck starts right up. Was wearing out my starter and flywheel with hard starts, 1 ignition turn compared to 3 turns. Mechanically illiterate I was. Although late to help me, thanks

The good thing about removing the fuel pump from the top is you don't have empty the tank because you get the fuel pump out from the top of the tank.

You could presoak the fittings in pb blast or wd40 about an hour before you start it should help to loosen them if real rusty

No, my timing was off on my truck, I had for 6 vehicle's and two are newer, so I just sold it to some guy for $400. He was happy he got the timing set and got it running.

Thanks for the video! My O2 Silverado has been dying at stop lights or low speeds. I'm going to start with the fuel filter first. On your truck was it the fuel filter, or did it end up being a fuel pressure regulator and or fuel injectors?

Changing the fuel filter made it run better but it still ran bad, I actually sold the truck because it had to many problems, the timing was off, I would be driving down the road and hear a loud bang then the truck would shut off. I would have to pop the hood and turn the distributor a few notches to get it going again. I just got rid of it because I had 4 other running vehicle's and wasn't gonna spend money on it because I didn't need the vehicle.

After you popped out the f/pump in the electrical center, did you leave the key in the ignition on after or did you remove the key and leave it off?

We're you able to get it going? Make sure you faced the fuel filter in the right direction. The out faces towards the motor. The in faces towards the tailgate.

I never did, if the drive shaft comes out, it means something's that holds it in place is bad or missing. Ujoints might be bad or a bracket that holds it in place might be missing a nut or bolt, Could be a few diffrent things. I'll take a look at my Toyota Tundra today becuase my toyota has a weird kick when i take off on the truck, it feels like the drive shaft wants to come out, thanks for your question, it just reminded me to take a look at my driveshaft today.

No, just make sure the key is off so that the gas pump is not running. The gas that is already the line will come out, be careful not to get any gas in your eyes. The gas only comes out of the tank if the pump is on.

Yeah looks pretty basic, you didn't even have the right size wrench and I'm over here worried about getting a 2 line wrench. If you have a minute be interested to hear the journey of you trouble shooting your truck, I've been having some chore of a time. Just did throttle body and all the air intakes, about to do the fuel filter now
