The car Dale Jarrett used here ended up becoming re-purposed into an ARCA racer and still kept its number 88. It ended getting Dodge sheet metal on it.

Including the No Bull 5 Million Dollar Bonus, Dale Jarrett earned a NASCAR record $2,277,975 for winning the 2000 Daytona 500.

His last of three. Not his last Cup Series wins overall. That said, it I kinda fitting that Ned was in the booth for all three of Dale's Daytona 500 wins.

I feel bad for anyone who watched this race both there in person and on TV, I feel like this race sucked for pretty much everyone except for maybe Dale Jarret, I wonder how he feels about this race looking back at it.

@cumznu This 500 was so bad, people were seen on TV taking naps on their trailers! Thats what happens when only 9 lead changes occur at Daytona.
@m140m16 жыл бұрын
Poor Benson I wish he won the race. What an amazing underdog story that would have been.
@BadBooking16 жыл бұрын
Agreed 3000%. Could not have said that any better. And I was seven when I first starting watching NASCAR in 1997. I'm sad what this sport has become: a mainstream dictatorship that the Junior Nation rules.

It may not have been the best Daytona 500, but NASCAR was a lot better back then. Back when it was "racing" and not a "show".

And so, the 21 consecutive Daytona 500 races to air on CBS comes to an end. Yes, they still air races that year but despite that it is the end of an long era.

Benson is the last of his kind. he came in as a "young" 30 year old, and has real raw talent, but all nascar owners want is young guys who they let go after a year with them...its a shame

You edited out the key moment of the race, when Jeff Burton hung Mark Martin (his own teammate) out whenever Martin made his move on Benson. Burton chose to follow Dale Jarrett instead. Martin had the best car in this race and never recovered. Back then, it took 30 laps to recover from getting shuffled out in the front of the pack. Much different from today. To this day, I've never seen Mark Martin speak about this race. Outside of 2007, it was his best chance to win the 500.

As a Benson fan, this race was awesome. Lousy finish, but this was the pivotal movement after Roush that helped to show Johnny's potential, that and his Winston Cup win on my 18th birthday. Speaking of which, if you can find that somewhere please drop me an email

One of the only 500's that made me go to sleep.... and not for a minute. I mean a while! Nice to see my favorite driver winning, but I wish there was a better race. And as much as I love Jarrett, I wish Benson would have won.

While this race wasn't great, I'd watch it over this year's Daytona 500 any day of the week, which had about 15 cautions (a Daytona 500 record), over half the field out of the race, this pathetic 2 car tandem bullshit (pack racing's WAY better), and while I do give props to Trevor Bayne for winning this year's race and becoming the youngest winner in the 500, there was at least 10-15 other drivers that should've won that race but either got wrecked or had other misfortunes
