Looking back at the golden years of DJ battles you would have to say Dexta was the most original and creative DJ of his time. This set and his 1999 set are my favorite sets. I can listen to them over an over.

I was there that night. Craze was juggling Miami Bass, which a lot of people - myself included - weren't familiar with, so couldn't really appreciate what he was doing with the records. Dexta got a standing ovation that night, unlike Craze. Actually, Kid Koala did a set after the battle, performing his famous "Drunk trumpet" routine, and he also got a standing ovation.

Always been a difficult one to call, but I'll always side with Dexta having deserved the title in the hotly contested and legendary 2000 DMC championship. In terms of technical ability, both he and Craze were on par, but when you boil down not only the music being played and the timings, Dexta moved around a fair bit more with far more tricky music and odd time signatures, all while being stylish, unique and creative and technically proficient in terms of scratching, mixing and juggles. Craze was amazing, had a tight routine, technically brilliant, but I don't think he messed with music that was as hard to be as creative with, lowering his technical score overall IMO. Was a long time ago, but damn, you cant help but feel for Dexta.

I'm still 50:50. Craze was technically better and almost flawless, but Dexta had more artistry, humour and musicality... but perhaps wasn't quite as clean imho. Craze probably the deserved winner, but Dexta was the people's champion that day. He won the crowd no doubt. Could have gone either way. A great competition, one of the best. Realise this is a 2 year old post, but this is timeless!
@gaffle-411 Жыл бұрын
@@themightyant.Craze had a flawless \/ictory of a performance. He was just too technically good. Dexta deserves mention with this memorable set though. I think Dexta blew a gasket and his chances at victory with 3:20 - 3:38. That was the letdown (if any) of an otherwise incredible set!
@DJFATFINGAZNYC Жыл бұрын
This reminded me a lot of ROLI vs BABU in ITF BEAT JUGGLING, Craze edged him with Swag and Funk just like Babu did..To me, this was both on a caliber of 99.999 but edged out in the thousandths….

I think that was one of the very reasons why he placed lower than Craze. The Time Signature changes in his Juggles were original, but the overall Flow tends to get choppy at times. I still take my hat off for the most original record selections in his Set; absolute crowd pleaser indeed.
