Forgot to mention, I just replaced my Sub frame engine cradle as well. I want to keep her running another 20 years, I also own a 2003 sxt and a 2004 se with 55k original miles. All are red and . I am looking for a Es Model or a RT with leather interior as none of mine have leather as yet.

I had a 1998 Intrepid ES( last of the pre- Diamler/Chrysler cars) that I owed for 13 years and put 153,000 miles on. One of the most reliable cars I ever owned.

Foxonian That’s awesome! Yes I absolutely love these cars! It has never let me down, only 80,000 miles on mine now,

WJ Honkala I agree! If you're on Facebook, feel free to shoot me a message and we can chat more, if you're interested.

WJ Honkala also, I suppose it's worth noting that I just recently sold my Black 2000 ES that I owned for three years and had been in the family for 14 years.

Stephen Flanscha Yes I'm on Facebook, would love to see some pictures of your R/T, and sweet how many miles were in the black one?
@stephen18057 жыл бұрын
WJ Honkala Cool! I'm probably easier to find, so shoot me a request! The black one has 240k on her and is still going. Very sad to get rid of her, but at least now I can focus on my R/T

Yes .. These were great cars. And, good commentary - The 3.2 liters actually had the least amount of trouble, of any of the engine options.
@joeconley19815 жыл бұрын
Zorn Casteel you are definitely correct on that because I own a 2000 dodge intrepid ES that has a 3.2 L engine, and I have to say that other than the routine maintenance it's a very good running engine. I had an intrepid that had a 2.7L in it and the water pump went out on it three times and it was purposely designed for antifreeze to leak into your oil, then you'd get a knock in the upper portion of the motor because the oil was sludged up. The 2.7L was the worst engine on those.

Nice review! My Intrepid is a clone of your car with the only difference being; my car is a 2001 with a sunroof. My car only has 44,000 miles and like you I only drive it in the summer. I love that car!

I bought my 2000 intrepid 11 yrs ago from my neighbor. It just died on me about a month ago. water in the oil so I guess its the water pump. I love my intrepid. everyone is telling me to get rid of it and buy a new car. I have looked at all the new cars and test drove a few. They just don't compare to my intrepid! Great gas mileage, nice ride, lots of leg room, get up and go, etc. etc..... Its sitting in my drive way while I use my truck to go to work. always used my truck in the winter, not my car. I am finding it very hard to part with it.

Had an intrepid ES, 02 with the 3.5. Sold it to my dad, then went on to buy a 300m Special. I wouldn't say the 300m has been particularly reliable, but I've learned a hell of a lot in working on it and keeping it running has been fairly inexpensive doing the work myself. Just watch out for poor quality generic aftermarket parts, particularly for suspension components. Radiators can be an issue, too, just had to replace my 1 year old TYC radiator that started leaking from around the seam between the plastic inlet and the metal fin assembly. Apart from that, I've done the entire front suspension apart from the passenger side CV axle, and though I've had my fights with it, it's no worse to work on than any other car. Also, the longitudinal engine layout made the timing belt and water pump job a lot less painful that it might've been on the majority of FWD cars. Overall, it's a good car to learn on. Engine power is good, the transmission isn't super performance-oriented but typical of the time, and handling is excellent. Good handling in snow and ice as well, quite predictable. Huge and very comfortable back seat, huge trunk makes it very practical, can even haul 10ft lumber in a pinch. Lovely car, happy to put the work in to keep it running.

Thank you for the advise, I will look out for cheap parts and yes very practical indeed, I've haul quite a bit with my intrepid, long before i had my SUV

I have a 2000 es 3.2 with 355,374 on the odometer tonight. Purchased used in 2004 with 71k on odometer for 5800.00. Still runs & drives great. Original engine & transmission, never rebuilt. Always changed timing belt & water pump at each 100k which is the key with the 3.2. Orig alternator & fuel pump. Great road car and very reliable. Love these cars, but you must steer clear of 2.7 motor...which was a disaster.

12:45 No the Intrepid/LX cars were not Mercedes inspired. The chassis were based off the AMC/Eagle/Renault Eagle premier if I remember correctly. I thin Daimler bought in to Chrysler right at the end of 2004 when the LX was on the way out. The LH's 300/Magnum/Charger chassis' had Mercedes parts ...... unfortunately. I had a 2001 Chrysler (Canadian model) Intrepid 2.7L and then a 2006 Dodge Magnum SXT 3.5L. Had nothing but trouble with the Mercedes front suspension parts. Within 100k I went trough about 4 sets of tie rods, both lower control arms and a pitman arm? bushing. Also the transmission module had to be replaced.

The 3.2 EGW is not related to the newer 3.2 in the Jeep which is a Pentastar. Also you say the car was only around a few years, there were 7 model years. Very nice car indeed though.
