This would be awesome as a ten wheeler obviously it’s gone now but I think the sleeper is awesome or even a crew cab with the sleeper and a ten wheeler just think those would be awesome setups for a huge double deck enclosed car trailer

Nice Truck! Watch Out for Oil Pump/Balance Shaft Failure. The 50 series were notorious for these failing with low oil pressure as the symptom.

The KW t600 out front has the same setup inside the sleeper!! Looks just like it just with blue interior. How can I get one of them in-truck drink dispenser?
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 7 жыл бұрын
is the sleeper on the t600 integral or is it removable? i got my "in truck drink dispenser" years ago. it was a "one off" very rare. it does loads of other things. very versatile! they dont make that model any more. all the new one are frail and dont work half the time. i think i'll keep this one!

Now I love Freightliners, I would like to ask a few questions.. how long has the fifty series engines been around? I never really ever drove a nine speed but that low range is low which is to you and down towards your leg right like the thirteen speed, can the low hole be got to in high range like the thirteen speed and used as a mystery gear... seen men use it and argue as long as no real load against it, then it doesn't hurt the transmission. In fact knew a owner/operator that did it day in and out without ever hurting his and he put over a million miles on the truck that I personally seen. So does it or is it blocked out? And then the other one I never drove was a ten speed, I guess I can google it. Nice truck and being white doesn't show dust and road rash as bad as the say black trucks do... then thinking way too loud, drive it when it is finished to Jonathans one day rat rod build... just in case your the unlucky guy to win.

Nice truck. The DD series 50 will be interesting. I know a guy on the west coast who is a good source for running take outs on those. Are you considering adding a wet kit? Having the option of raising the tail to level seems attractive.
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 7 жыл бұрын
i have ruled out the hydraulic dove tail due to the fact i want to be able to tow a pretty heavy and long trailer behind the truck and want a super solid tail.
@kevinhornbuckle
@kevinhornbuckle 7 жыл бұрын
Build it however you want to, of course. I'm just throwing around ideas. The hydr would lift and lower the tail. But it could lock mechanically and be as safe and solid as a fixed frame.
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 7 жыл бұрын
i have had many gooseneck trailers with hydraulic dove tails. they did lock mechanically. nice set ups. they all had 16" or 17.5" tires and the dove tail was 11'. loading 2 wheel drive trucks or anything with lower profile tires was not easy. i havent done the math but with the tires being 22.5"i think it would need to be much longer in order to end up with an angle that is approachable. that is why my dovetail on my freightliner ended up being 7' with 6' ramps. the approach angle is one thing i would like to change on the new bed. it would be nice if it was a lower angle. also, i like it being fixed because there are no moving parts, no hoses and no pump to fail. i like simple. simple is reliable. especially for a truck that will sit alot.

About fuel milage with ton truck I transported cars with a 2008 f350 6.4 and a 53 foot Kaufman wedge it got 6.75 mpg and with same trailer and a 1986 international cab over with 300 big cam cummins and 9 speed single axle got 10 mpg did matter loaded or empty. Also had a 1994 freightliner fl120 sleeper single axle had L10 cummins and 9 speed and a 4 car Drake trailer it got 10 mpg. When I was doing it I heard all kinds stories on fuel milage.
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 7 жыл бұрын
honest mileages right there my friend! it is usually the dodge cummins pick up guys that try to cram the unrealistic mpg at me....probably because i have fords and gms. the 6.4 engines from 2008-2010 were horrible on fuel even when they were empty! BIG CAM CUMMINS!!!! there is a good ol' motor! i have a 1985 cabover 9670 big cam, 9 speed, single axle air ride! obsolete truck and rides horrible but, my dad had one when i was a kid and i swore if i ever found one i would but it because he loved that old truck.it was new when he got it. he ran it for years. he passed away when i was 24. so the truck is a keep sake. most people would keep something small that reminded them of there dad......what does a truck guy do?! GO FIND AND BUT THE TRUCK THAT DAD LOVED!!!!

Yeah the 2008 6.4 truck was the worst I ever had 4 engines by 93,000 miles. I bought the 1986 international for 2500 during the 2nd engine fail. Had 397,000 miles on it. All it had ever hauled was foam insulation. Was a great old truck.

Nice truck man! Do you have a CDL? Here in Florida you've got to have a CDL to drive anything with air brakes. Hope you video this build, that's going to be an awesome truck when you put your bed on it...
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 5 жыл бұрын
federal regulations say that a single vehicle with a gvwr of 26.001 lbs or more requires a cdl. if a vehicle with a gvwr of 26,001 lbs or more has air brakes, you need an air brake endorsement. many people think that just because it has air brakes, you need a cdl. that is not the case if the vehicle's gvwr is under 26,001 lbs and a towed trailers gvwr is 10,000 lbs or under. i looked up florida cdl law and couldnt find anything that said differently....you may want to check into it.

Don't think I've ever seen landing gear at the rear like that. What's the purpose of those?
@j.c.smithprojects
@j.c.smithprojects 6 жыл бұрын
it is common for expediter trucks to have them. often there is considerably more box behind the axle than a traditional box truck. so if they load with a fork lift it could damage the truck box and frame.

no. all the 3126 engines are computer controlled. good clean oil is a must in a 3126. it has a high pressure oil system that fires the injectors just like the 3116 in the 1998 gmc 8500 in one of my last videos. it is not a very complicated engine as far as today's diesel engines go.

20,000 to 24,000 lbs getting 16 to 18 mpg. i will take as many of these trucks as i can get. when i did the same thing with my 2000 and 2002 dodge both 5.9 with manual trans and 2wd, the best i ever got was 9.75 mpg and i was pleased with that.
