NFL scouts had to have been *salivating* over Greene in those days. I can't believe not a single team owner was willing to offer him the financial incentive he needed to give up track for professional football.

Football ain't track. They appear similar but they're in fact very different skills at the professional levels and they don't necessarily translate. The problems with football are what Position and then can he HIT moving objects or catch the ball and run with the ball while a bunch of grown men are trying to tear off his head? Football speed is basically how quickly can you reach V-Max, preferably within 5-10 yards for the positions he'd be playing. He may have been able to do some specialty work like being a gunner on punts and kickoffs while he tested the waters for punt or kickoff returns and maybe WR. But he would've had to initiate that conversation. Recently Marvin Bracy who had played football in high school tried to get into the NFL and failed. Bracy is very quick in the first 50 but the speed didn;t translate.
