Anyone else watching after Tiger just won his 15th major? The 100th US Open was epic, but the emotion from Tiger winning the Masters in 2019 is unparalleled for me as an avid fan of all sports. Damn golf is just better when Tiger is playing well!
@thekububeach5 жыл бұрын
Yup, I dare say that Tiger is bigger than golf. Look at the crowd on Sunday. Heck, even the other golfers were so excited. He brought the sport to the new level when he arrived. The sport and the other players owe him a lot. I watched this US Open live. He looked like a superhuman those days. He was human yesterday. He's paid his due and I'm so glad he's back. He's done terrible things in personal life but who hasn't and who cares? He never cheated the game of golf. His story from the high level to his fall will inspire a lot of people.

LonghornsLegend the 1997 Masters is a much more important win for a lot of different reasons, but the 2000 US Open is without a doubt the jewel in the crown as far as Tiger’s golf game. I think Tiger’s third round in this tournament might be the best round he ever played. Field average was 77 in strong winds, Tiger shot even par (with a TRIPLE on the card mind you) to extend his lead from 6 to 10 heading into Sunday. Although I will give you Tiger’s third round 65 in the 1997 Masters and his iconic “40-30” first round that same year are also on his Mt Rushmore of Major rounds. I would probably round out the Mt Rushmore with this year’s Masters final round, given the long drought and the previous lack of a Sunday comeback in a major

Truly a magnificent performance. Likely the greatest 4 round putting performance we’ve ever seen. Only Retief Goosens final round of the 2004 US Open comes close from a putting standpoint. Nobody was going to beat him this week. Yes, he was fortunate in his starting times, but Tiger always was given the most favorable tee times in majors. Just played pebble twice 2 weeks before the 2019 us open. Unbelievable how tight they cut those fairways, how small the green complexes are. And how thick and sticky the rough was, still with time to lengthen it. Been a dream of mine to see where tiger did this. To play the place that i watched every single shot my idol hit as a 10 year old boy. Unreal. Unreal unreal. Puts this even more into perspective.
@trenthamilton42405 жыл бұрын
I've played Pebble a couple times and what is so easy to not notice watching on TV is how tiny the greens are. 8, 9 and 10 are incredibly difficult holes - and when I've played them, it's been in ideal conditions. I can't even imagine trying to hit that approach on 8 when the wind is going.

Crazy thing about this, when Tiger hit his drive into the ocean on 18, Steve, Tiger's caddie, forgot his extra golf balls back at the room. So Steve handed him the last golf ball they had in the bag. If Tiger lost that then he'd be disqualified. Steve never told him that of course and Tiger proceeds to blast one. But imagine how different history could have been lol

It cannot be overstated just how much he dominated in his prime from the late 90s to the mid 00s. It's easy to look at his current 82 wins and think "Oh sure, that was over like 25 years." Nah, MOST of them came between 1997 and 2009. He had multiple seasons that would be career defining for literally anyone else. He won 9 times in 2000 alone! Hell, most people forget he was Player of the Year and won 5 times in 2013. He's won almost 25% of all tournaments he's ever played in. THAT is a ridiculous stat.
