Also what is operating temp?
@fwh79FOXR6
@fwh79FOXR6 5 жыл бұрын
The thermostat opens at 71c to 84c or 159.8f to 183.2f The fan cut-in temp is 102c - 108c or 215.6f - 226.4f The fan cut-out temp is 97c - 103c or 206.6f - 217.4f The temp will vary based on ambient temperatures and oil viscosity. When I used 0w-50 oil, my bike ran around 185f while crusing. Now I use 10w-40 and the crusing temp is around 177f.

Where does the coolant resvior hose hook up to? Mine was completely off
@fwh79FOXR6
@fwh79FOXR6 5 жыл бұрын
The hose should hook up to the radiator right below the radiator cap. The cap will open and allow coolant to be pushed into the reservoir bottle when the engine is hot. The cap will also open and allow coolant to flow back into the radiator when the engine cools off.
@evelia1156

Just curious (new to street bikes), why fill up the reservoir and fill up the radiator too? Are they not connected?
@fwh79FOXR6
@fwh79FOXR6 5 жыл бұрын
Trey Johnson: Yes they are connected. There is usually a "cold" lower mark and "warm" higher mark on an overflow bottle. It is best to fill the bottle so the radiator can draw in coolant if needed. The bottle is used to purge air from the cooling system. Air in the cooling system acts as an insulator and can cause overheating issues. Usually when the engine warms up the radiator cap opens and allows coolant to flow from the radiator into the bottle releasing any gas (air) or excessive pressure in the system. Later when the bike cools down after a ride, the cap will open again and allow the coolant in the bottle to flow back into the radiator. If the bottle is empty there will not be enough coolant available to be drawn back into the system, causing air to be drawn in instead of coolant.

I have 01 r6 gauge is reading lo but won't show tempature could it be thermostat or thermal sensor would appreciate the advice your are very edifieng thank you from Puerto Rico
@fwh79FOXR6
@fwh79FOXR6 4 жыл бұрын
scrapwluv: I would check the coolant level first. Be sure the bike is cold (has not run for 3 hours), then remove the radiator cap and check the coolant level in the radiator. Do not open the radiator cap when the bike is warm because the cooling system is pressurized and removing the cap will spray out hot coolant. If the coolant level is correct, it is possible that the coolant temperature sensor is failing. I think you would still get a reading, even if the thermostat was stuck open. The bike would still get warm enough to register a reading above "lo" on the gauge.

@@fwh79FOXR6 it was simply a bad connection with the wires that connect to the wire lead to the thermo unit, wire was split. Appreciate for responding I've learned a lot from your channel since their aren't many with the older r6's love that orange, is it like a type of pearl paint?

@@scrapwluv Thank you, always glad to help out. The paint is not pearl, it's a solid color. The color is actually an old Ford color code CC. It is faded with black paint. I kind of over did the fade job on the tank... so it's hard to notice.

Top it off meaning fill it back up to that half way mark you pointed out on the reservoir?
@fwh79FOXR6
@fwh79FOXR6 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is correct. Checking the coolant level in the reservoir should be a part of your preride inspection. I know it is easy to get lazy and just go ride. However, be extra sure to keep an eye on it after changing the coolant for at least a couple of weeks before going back to being lazy.

Yeah very hot & fast, like I would be at a red light for about 3 to 4 min & the temp would start increasing fast, I've got up to 225 at a red light before, I just checked my radiator & there's about 5 inches of no coolant & my reservoir had nothing in there at all
