I really feel like nowadays, you can wear whatever you want. While some people might condemn you for not wearing the 'trendy' stuff, there are like 500 trends happening at once so most people will look somewhat 'trendy'. And even if something isn't available anymore (which is unlikelable), you can still find it secondhand because of the huge fashion consumption in the last two decades (for better or worse) Also, I was a child in the 2000's, so I don't know whether to like these trends or not - It isn't nostalgic for me, but it also isn't truly new as I saw older cousins etc wear them and when I was in early teen in the 2010's when 2000's fashion was a NONONO, I feel like that is very stuck in my brain.

I agree. Personally, I really like the fact that fashion at the moment allows you to be yourself a bit more, but at the same time I do wish modern fashion had a bit more of an identity - it would be cool if we came up with something new that is actually wearable and that people in the future could look back on.
@user-ed7et3pb4o4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I think also because of the rise of thrifting, 70s, 80s, 90s, Y2K and some 10s trends are trendy all at once. I feel like the biggest trend rn is borrowing from the past in a way that suits you individually.

I believe with online shopping and the inclusivity trend this won't happen, low rise is not flattering to anyone without a flat stomach, and there will always be smaller brands to cater for alternative fashion. Plus even if teens dictate the trend they are not the ones with the money to buy them, as long as there are people willing to spend money on whatever it is, there will be someone to supply that.

I also thought the actual whale tail was accidental, but exposing one's underwear was deliberate. Manny's bedazzled blue thong was a bit extreme, but in No Doubt's "Hey Baby" Gwen Stefani was clearly showing the sides of her red thong. I can't remember when it began, but showing the elastic waistband that said "Calvin Klein" or whatever was also a trend back in the day.
@Ginatus4 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true! I had forgotten all about that. So I guess that was kind of the male equivalent haha. And at least in my country the 2000s also saw the rise of hip-hop and baggy pants where they also applied the "how low can you go" principle :D. But yeah, in general underwear was exposed a lot more, not only thongs. Maybe in part because of the trend, but then again it was kind of inevitable with those low-rise pants. So I guess people just embraced it...

Same. I'm slim but have a long torso, small waist, wide hips and sturdy muscly legs, and only high-rise jeans with an actual high rise (12 inch from waist to crotch) don't give me camel toe and flatter my figure. Without that I basically look almost like a square from the hips downwards. I wanna be well-dressed, I don't know why they want us to suffer so much 😭

I think some of these trends, especially the whale tail and low rise jeans, will be popular for celebs like Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner etc., and on Instagram & TikTok, but I don't see them all transferring to many real life situations outside of LA/online. I do see the y2k brands and easier to wear styles coming back as a larger trend though.

Mini rant: I love that the look of my tweens is coming back but think we all need to be mindful of one of the biggest side effects of trends like crop tees and low rise bottoms - excessive dieting and bad body image. It’s not a coincidence that celebrities who were Y2K icons like Nicole Richie, the Olsens, LiLo, Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham were all painfully underweight at one time or another in that period. Many of my generation (myself included) developed insecurities about our tummies, hips and bums because of trends like those. It’s partly why I think we all embrace high waisted jeans and skater silhouettes because they are flattering on a wider range of body types and ages and are more versatile in terms of dressing up or down. TL;DR I love this aesthetic but as a 2000s teen, learn from our mistakes and remember that the fashion is the trend, not the attitude that promoted harmful body standards and EDs! You don’t have to have a tiny frame and/or be a teen to wear whatever the hell you want to! ❤️

@@elizaandreadaki9942 ofc, and it's difficult to find low waisted as well but as someone in a poor family I've noticed that thrift stores and second hand stores such as depop or poshmark tend to sell clothes that aren't trending for decent prices. obviously u wouldn't have to worry about that right now but incase low rise does come back that could be helpful!

The so-called trends you see in the lower priced stores are usually a bit out of date anyway. If you watch the runway shows and try to emulate some of the looks you like it can take up to two years to find these looks in the stores even if you live in a big city. If you’re lucky you might find them at the thrift store. My solution has been to not throw anything that’s high quality and looks good on me away. If I feel it’s not in style at the moment it stays in storage. You need space and have to store them properly. If your weight fluctuates, keep things that are a one size smaller or larger. This year the skinnies go into storage (though in the videos I watch of people walking around Paris people are still wearing and looking good in them); the black and white striped t-shirt I got at the Gap in 2012 comes out.

One of the “trends” I love about current fashion is that most items from the past can be worn and look current, thanks to the increase in vintage/pre-owned shopping and wardrobe sustainability. A blazer from the any decade since the 1960s just seems to work, for example. The other trend I love is the increase in comfort, especially in footwear, although not the increasing informality than seems to come with it. We are already a world of loungewear and sneakers and even pajamas, but I think it’s possible to be comfortable and still really stylish a d not look like we’re coming back sweaty from the gym. For example, why do stretchy-waist pants always have to have gym-style dangling drawstrings? Get rid of those, keep the stretch, and it looks a lot sharper.

I was born in the 90s and grew up during the 2000s. I feel like we tend to remember the more outlandish trends but we forget how most styles were just seen as normal clothes Back then, it was hard for me to imagine a world where everyone wasn't wearing bootcut and low rise jeans...well, until skinny high rise jeans came in style. We also often forget that normal people usually ended up with a water downed version of the trend. If juicy couture sweatsuits were popular in the early 2000s, by 2006 I was wearing a velour tracksuit from Kmart to school. As the Y2K look comes back in fashion, I think it will be the more wild and fun aspects that come back in style and it will also be updated to modern tastes. There will be things that aren't even accurate to the time that will be marketed Y2K or vintage to be cool and trendy, the same way we had "90s" makeup in the 2010s that no one in the 90s would have worn. But we will see.

High-rise jeans actually do a better job of highlighting the butt. Low-rise jeans do nothing for any bootys anywhere. They just don't sit well on the hips.
I have two outcomes for 2020s fashions. 1. With the pandemic eventually ending people may want to wear more colorful and fun clothes (maybe 2000s clothes with a 80s and 2010s flair to it and minus low rise jeans) to forget about how bad 2020 was . Or 2. With people being depressed in 2020 that the fashion will have a more darker aesthetic. Like a emo, goth and punk revival but more minimal. I also i think fashion will go reverse with people covering up more like a 1920s and 1930s revival.

I don’t see lowrise jeans coming back, that aesthetic and shape only really complimented the really skinny ideal of that era. I think it’ll be more about what you wear to compliment your own body type with jeans, like high rise will still be popular but I’ve seen some girls pulling off lowrise jeans on tiktok amazingly. Although I feel like the silhouette could be coming back with the oversized sweaters/sweater vests over mini tennis skirts which make your waistline lower but are really cute in my opinion and more body type inclusive!! Other than that please let highrise jeans stay 😂😂

A lot of fashion from this era is already in the trash though. *What’s with people saying “IFFFF low rise jeans come back I’ll be mad” or whatever....? They’re already back. Lowkey the easiest way to notice trends (currently) is through Tik tok (dependent on what you engage with and see more of). But it’s already happening. I’d honestly say though that only celebrities have been really wearing it in public though, like we saw Alexa Demie doing and some models. Otherwise most people just do it for Tik tok.* *High rise jeans are still popular, though.* *I feel like we have gotten to a point where everything is kind of “a trend”..... as long as you put your own flare to it? Basically........ if you’re BOLD with it... then you’re “trendy”.* *It can be alternative, like emo and edgy....... it can be bubble gum girly, it can be Y2K, it can be mom jeans and a white baggy tucked in buttoned up shirt........ but all that matters to make it trendy? Is TAKING whatever trend u wear that day, and do it ALL the way.* *There’s even a Tik tok trend where people “try different styles for a week”. Even the whole “CaNT ChOoSe An AeStHetiC to SaVe My LiFE ChECKKkkKk” trend lol.* *So tbh? Everything is trendy. I think what “trendy” instead means.... is being BOLD. People now a days aren’t trying to look like what we’ve already seen someone else wear...... people look at fashion and say “wow that’s different how did they do that?!?!?! How did they put that together?!?!”.*
@EVGMoviemaker4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I feel like there's definitely a sort of 'trendy' way of styling clothes; whenever i see someone trying different aesthetics there's still something that ties them together in a way i can't quite explain, but it's just there? I don't think anyone with a bold personal style necessarily counts as trendy, but it is very easy to pull whatever style into a trendy outfit or something?
@EVGMoviemaker4 жыл бұрын
@@ks5865 hahaha I know what you mean, the makeup plays a huuuge part! I also feel like a lot of 'early adopters' of 2000s trends now are generally people with very styled outfits who know how to pose which makes it feel like more of a 2000s costume than if you'd see some random girl wearing low rise jeans and a cropped hoodie to the supermarket, lol
